Made your chili today adding all your suggestions with the avocado, along with the nutritional yeast I used a daisy vegan cheese. It's delicious, going to take it for lunches at work. Thankyou!

Great video. I like to add turmeric and black pepper too.... but have a question regarding the low fat. Would it be better to add a tablespoon or two of ground flaxseed or something, in order to bump healthy fats? As you state, there are lots of nutrients and many are fat soluble. I believe in trying to avoid combining higher fat with higher starch but in the case when using certain fat soluble spices and herbs, maybe an exception?

Thanks so much for your feedback and comment Michael. You are correct that it is best not to combine high amounts of and/or high fat foods with starches for optimal digestion and food combining. In general, most of the ingredients here do have enough fat to help with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. For example, corn alone has about 14% of its calories coming from fat. So if you feel that you would like to bump up the overall energy density of this meal, then you can definitely add a wholesome, higher fat plant food of your choice. For example, my favorite thing to add to this chili during the winter, when a higher fat content is beneficial is some diced avocado on top (instead of a leafy green). However, if it is just a matter of optimal absorption then these ingredients are just fine as they are. Cheers!

Excellent recipe but there is a legitimate argument that cooking tomatoes releases lycopene not normally fully absorbed. Tx for always great informative broadcasts.
@Healthytarian
@Healthytarian 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Evelyn, we get lycopene from tomatoes whether they are raw, blended or cooked, just in different amounts. Yes, we can cook some tomatoes, but we don't have to cook them always. You may gain some lycopene, but lose some vitamin C and other nutrients. So yes, cooking may help in some ways, but it always comes with some downsides too. Thank you for your comment and feedback.

No special process, simply rinse with water. If you are concerned about pesticides, buy organic as much as possible, follow the EWG's guide (kzbin.info/www/bejne/apa0lpqjhreGgNU), and possibly peel what cannot be organic to further reduce any high risk options.

Hi there! Can I ask what you think of this in regards to food combining? I've heard you speak about it but perhaps there are some nuances to it. Like combining tomatoes and starches for example. Is this acceptable if the food is cooked together as opposed to being used separately? Or still not optimal for combining? Thanks so much! Love your channel!
@Healthytarian
@Healthytarian 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, yes indeed. I cover food combining in the following two videos, which will hopefully address your questions, if you have not yet seen them: 1. How to use food combining guidelines: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oabKo5Jtrdx-gqc and 2. 10 Problematic meal combinations: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJbOmXmPgbGnj8k In summary, animal foods and certain simple sugar-foods, like fruits, create the most problematic food combinations, and should be avoided for proper digestion and better health. But if you don't have serious health or digestive issues, then other food combining guidelines like tomatoes and starches need not be an issue.

how long do you let it cook ?
@Healthytarian
@Healthytarian 7 жыл бұрын
Since your beans are already cooked, you only need to warm it all up enough to your liking - just a few minutes. If you don't thaw your corn, and use it fully frozen, then you will need a few more minutes of heating. If you add any peppers or tomatoes, they don't need to be cooked, unless you want to soften them up a bit. So I call it the 5 minute chili because it only takes about 5 minutes to put these together in your pot and just warm up a bit. The less we cook our foods, the more nutrition and value is preserved in our food.

If you dont live in America, its a bottle or carton of passata. In the UK tomato puree comes in a tube and its a really concentrated paste, so please don't use that

Why the obsession with avoiding oil? Fats are a necessary part of a balanced diet. Without them you miss out on essential fat soluble vitamins!
@Healthytarian
@Healthytarian Жыл бұрын
Fats are necessary. Oils are not. Please do not mistaken one of the other - the nutrition and health differences between them are immense. Oils are processed fats - not found anywhere in nature naturally, and not natural to our body. Your body is best equipped to digest and breakdown whole foods that have fats, not isolated fats in the form of oils. Therefore, those who choose to eat a whole-food, plant-based diet, which is what this channel is all about, do not include heavily or industrially processed and isolated foods, like oils.
