Every time I see a huey start up on KZbin it always reminds me of 1972 and Cambodia what it was a rush to be a gunner back then. To be stranded on the mountain while shot at overnight things like that nobody wants to talk about

@@FlightVideoPhoto this was a story from a friend I knew named Edgar Grant. in Memphis Tennessee. that told me this. Little did I know his mother sold Elvis Presley Graceland as a realtor agent back then. So I'm speaking for him even though he's passed away now. That's what I meant by it must have been a rush back then and him telling me he was stranded overnight getting shot at . At 18teen years old. Trust me I wasn't trying to take anybody's credit there them boys earned their dollars back then trying just to stay alive

My Dad flew Hueys in the Army during 70s 80s and Early 90s. I ended up joining the Marine Corps and my first Huey ride was nap of the earth over Pohang Korea. I’ll never forget it That airframe has a special place in my heart. Dad would fly over the house on main post of Ft Riley all the time. Just barefoot playing in the playground and hear that sound. I knew it was dad. He would do something to the blades to pop pop pop them louder as he was overhead. This video reminds me of a day I went to work with him in Germany and watched nearly the exact same thing.

To put a fine point on the nickname for this chopper....the designation UH-1 stands for Utility Helicopter- 1 and the model letter follows that. The version of it's most widely used model was the "E" version....so UH-1E became "Huey" ....but the nickname gets hung on any UH-1.
