This pilot definately knows how to take the huey thru its paces! Huey piloting wizardry here! The huey has always been my favorite helicopter to this day!

Thanks for the vid, especially the audio! I spent 3 years in the 70's as an Army Crew Chief and Gunner on Slicks (So. Korea - 201st Avn. Co. Assault Helicopter "Red Barons"), I really miss wrenching on them and I especially miss flying. The sound of that old T53 spooling up really takes me home. Thanks again, fly safe.

A good book series that looks at Vietnam from the back seat is Chopper1 by Jack Hawkins. I was a Huey crew chief in the late 70's, so I prefer it to stories about pilots. As crew chief's, we could do without pilots, but they couldn't do without us.

Oh my god this thing is so powerful. An actual Huey low level flight. They are low enough to stop and utilize ground effect and hover at any time. But wow what amazing power for a helicopter

@derekhalford1872 жыл бұрын
As part of flight safety, I would've expected the pilot to avoid flying towards a flock of birds.
@Sam-w6m5z9 ай бұрын
As a H135/H145 pilot with over 22 years of experience i can asure you all……ALWAYS AVOID BIRDS if possible, this pilot clearly knows this airport/area so he knew for sure there are birds……BAD judgement……..and YES……birds can be the cause of a Huey crash. 😖

I am not a pilot but this pilot hardly used the cyclic at all. The collective stick looked like he hardly even used it.. It must be a great helo to fly and it looks so easy to fly one too.
@theafi8244 жыл бұрын
I fly in a lot of helicopters and I know a lot of pilots...the corrections made during flight are often very subtle. Also, I wouldn't say flying a helicopter is easy. Maybe once you're cruising but takeoff and landing can be very difficult.
@adambernier11553 жыл бұрын
you can get a d model to do anything you want with no more movement than a silver dollar.
@petehenry78782 жыл бұрын
The controls (peddles and cyclic) are so sensitive that just thinking about moving the cyclic has the effect of moving the cyclic. Thus, very little movement most of the time. The collective sets your power. You pull enough torque to get you to a hover add a couple/few pounds more torque and you're flying.

man the huey looks like its way heavier and more controllable than in dcs, I wonder if you have to twitch like a madman irl to control the huey when trying to be stationary xD
@GroggyGreg Жыл бұрын
If you are lucky you might find an old used microsoft ffb sidewinder2 with a usb plug, with force feedback you can sort of feel the weightso your input becomes less twitchy for a smoother flight.

Does the cyclic auto center, is it non-linear
@petehenry78782 жыл бұрын
It doesn't self-center. There are magnetic brakes called force trim. What the pilot does is set the peddles and cyclic to a desired position (Cyclic usually centered and slightly rear, peddles to whatever is straight flight) then turns on the system. All control movements then go through a force gradient. Which is a spring-loaded push pull tube. Once the system is set the controls work as normal, but if for some reason the pilot's hands or feet come off the controls, the controls return to the point that the force trim was set. The cyclic is nonlinear. It moves via gimbal ring 360 degrees.

Why are the top windows green? Just the tint? Or a specific reason?
@coryboy3455 жыл бұрын
To keep the sun from shining in the cockpit and disorienting the pilots on sunny days. It's tint.
