@@JohnFreedman0I'm just floating this thought. Would the fact that there's a lot of older reps be due to the fact that it takes a considerable amount of money to run for anything these days. Probably alot of good folks who would do a great job for the country in the elected position just don't have the bucks required to get in the race. Don't know what the answer is but it sure doesn't look good atm.

The first-past-the-post/ winner-take-all method in the tabulation of the ballots that determines the winners will always lead to this because that’s the only way to maximize a candidate’s chances of winning an election. The line of demarcation is Kennedy‘s assassination, as we know, he was very popular, but probably didn’t have enough time to create effective public policy outside of our moonshot. The only real debate is with Reagan, and I’m stretching to find any policy of his that has lasted till today. Winning the Cold War is about the easiest plaudit you can give him, but that also had something to do with the Soviets collapse. LBJ created effective public policy, but you could hardly call him popular, especially during the Vietnam war. Clinton and both Bushs were popular among enough among their party, but hardly created an lasting domestic policies/programs, and certainly did things to anger the other political faction (Monica Lewinsky and both wars in Iraq- although Bush 41 had international support for his). Jimmy Carter? good man, but bad economy and high inflation (Biden’s inflationary cycle has not been nearly as bad and probably won’t last nearly as long and fundamentally, the economy is better in 2023 than in 1979). Gerald Ford? Good man, but he pardoned Nixon, why? And lastly Nixon and Trump: impeachments, conflicts and crisis, criminal and unconstitutional conduct, enough said.

Wow. That's not true. He was a good governor and has been a busy senator. I moved to UT--he's been busy working with both parties trying to get real stuff done, unlike Mike Lee, who does little but blow hot air about how much he loves the constitution and then acts otherwise when an election doesn't go the way he wants.

Sadly for Yang, far-East Asian descent Americans aren't going to be nominated. They won't be elected, and even for governors there has only even been three, Washington understandably and especially understandably Hawaii. His only option is to start his own party and be the head of it.

Yang has (finally) internalized the fact that 3rd parties act as spoilers. What structural change can allow me ideas without a "no labels" style disaster? Ranked choice voting prevents the spoilage, but is perhaps discouraging to the newcomers -- you can influence but not win.

We need a 5 party system. Separate Democrats into liberal and progressive, split conservatives into conservative and maga then a labor party to really represent workers. The progressives and far right maga/tea party are the ones tearing our politics and society apart.

Got to agree with Romney. Biden should announce he would be willing to act as a senior advisor. Unfortunately it wouldn’t happen and God forbid Biden pulls a RBG and let Trump walk away with a win and democracy dies.

My problem with independent, and this is just from interviews i've seen and people talking on the net, they're republicans but don't want the bad press of being called republicans. They all say, I voted republican though I've been independent all my life or I was a republican but now am a independent. And when asked who they voted for it was a republican. Am not sure at the % for this, it's just what I've seen.
