I love the red, pink, orange explanation! That will make this much easier for me. Thank you for posting this unique approach.

Talk about helping someone get to that first Ah ha moment on theory. Thank you. I’m looking for a banjo instructor in Michigan. Hope I find someone as professional as you. Your pace is awesome. Now I have my guitars out I’m supposed to be practicing banjo. :)

I've done a number of videos on theory as it relates to playing banjo and bluegrass, they're under the "Music Theory & Concepts" playlist on my channel.

As someone who is trying to learn to play bluegrass music, I want to not only learn how to hear the chords but also understand what notes to play over each chords and how to build licks that Play Over the chord changes and actually understand why I'm doing it

Nice presentation. i like your singing along with the explaining/playing just slow enough to both follow and understand. Thank You so much 🙂

Thanks for the useful feedback. I agree, hearing things in real world examples brings it home better for most folks.

Be thinking what you'd be playing on bass as you go.

Thank you, I really love the way you explain things. As you brought up B minor I remembered I just started learning how to play Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb that starts off in a B minor. I believe the key though is in G, but it's kind of an odd song because it starts off with a B minor and I believe it ends on a d. But it uses chords b minor, g, e minor, d ,A and C

Thank you SO MUCH! I am going to practice this technique because I LOVE to jam but having soneone tell me what key a song was in never did any good because I wasn't able to figure out ...."which chord came next".
@EddieCollinsMusic2 жыл бұрын
Holly, improving your ability to hear changes will make your jamming a lot more fun. Be sure to catch lesson one of that and then also the two videos I did on the Circle of 5ths...I do it in such a way that it shouldn't be the scary experience that some folks make it out to be. Good luck!

What a great lesson. It is all practical and theory also. One question: what does it mean to "harmonize the scale". thanks so much for sharing.
@EddieCollinsMusic2 жыл бұрын
When you stack a note a 3rd and a 5th above any note in the scale. That will form the naturally occurring triad of that chord.

Is there a easy way to make a 3 finger g7? Thanks
@EddieCollinsMusic Жыл бұрын
The one I like is fret 4 on string 4, fret 3 on string 3 and fret 5 on string 2. It doesn't have the G root, but has all the other notes and gets the job done.

Got 1 out of 3 on the color test. Yeah I still have trouble with this.

It does take a lot of reps to get it, but once you do, your jamming is so much better!

It is working on my end, not sure what's going on there. It should take you to a screen where you have a choice to "request" or "send." You want to choose send at that point. I appreciate your efforts.

@@EddieCollinsMusic yes it said it was not working. I’ll try to take a screenshot later and see if I can post it so you can see it. I literally gave a train to catch right now, though. Maybe it was temporary. I have been in a place with horrible broadband coverage. Maybe it was due to the inadequate network.
