Did you have any success programming your Eargo 6's?

I'm new to considering hearing aids, and more importantly I've used youtube videos for everything from how to put eyedrops in my eyes to how to play guitar pieces. Rarely (if ever) have I seen a video that was more thoughtfully constructed, unbiased, and helpful. I rarely even write comments but wanted to share my appreciation for this excellent video.

I just ordered a pair of Eargo 6. The company rep explained that the batteries might last only 3 years before they degrade, but that they will replace any failing or damaged Eargo (after the two-year warranty) for $300. So, that’s $600/three years, or $200 per year. I selected Eargo because I think they are much less visible than Nano, and also because I prefer rechargeable over replacing batteries.

After three weeks with the Eargo 6, I am quite satisfied with them. Initially I was bothered by all the high-pitched sound that was amplified. Just carrying a sheet of paper around caused seriously loud crinkling sound. But, a short session with one of their tech support cured that; he dialed back the high-frequency amplification and it’s much better. Their after-sale support is fantastic. They really want you to be happy and have all the tools to tune the aids over the phone/internet. After a few weeks, they are very comfortable. And, no one knows that I’m wearing them. All the negative comments ignore the fact that these are amazingly invisible. There are plenty of good and cheaper HAs if you aren’t sensitive about how they look. I do prefer rechargeable to replacing batteries. My only wish would be for bluetooth. I use my Airpods a lot and have to take out the EARGOs to wear them. At least the EARGOs fit inside the Airpod case when I switch them out. Of course they don’t charge in the Airpod case.

@@richardcarr1090hello. Thanks a lot for taking the effort to write a realistic unbiased personal review. This is the type of comments I wanted to see. Thank you again, but I have a question if you don’t mind. Is the sound realistic with these hearing aids? Did you get used to them that everything around you just sounds natural?

@@richardcarr1090and I also appreciate that you’re the type of people that are proud to hide their hearing aids because I’m like that. It’s a personal things why would I show it to people?

I am just not the type to put these in every day. I wear them to parties and other events where I expect the background noise to be a significant factor for my hearing. They really do amplify the type of sounds I want to hear. I wouldn’t say that the sound is “normal”. They do amplify things like steps when walking. You will certainly be aware that you are waering them. But, I really don’t expect miracles…

Hello Matthew....I tried a previous version and had my audiologist test they're output and with a steeply sloping HF hearing loss they were simply not powerful enough . In my opinion what they have revolutionized is the ear tip......it was very comfortable and far superior to any I've seen (and used) on the highest end RIC's (Widex, Phonak and Resound) . Great channel and always very informative !!

That was quite an informative video! How about reviewing the BeHear ACCESS model II from Alango? It is a personalizable DTC hearing amplifier with hearing assessment results matching a professional audiogram, support for streamed audio over Bluetooth, directionality, noise reduction, telecoil support, tone control, customizable tinnitus masking sound, CROS/BiCROS support for single-sided hearing, and a rechargeable battery providing 13 hours of continuous use. Unlike the Eargo 6 it is not invisible (quite the opposite, it looks like a Bluetooth stereo neckloop), but the price tag is also strikingly different -- only $249.

I agree! Plus I found when programing the new SMARTO by you folks to my fathers hearing loss, it was much more actuate then i had anticipated. Sure neither product are like the Eargo, but neither is the cost, yet the features are much more advanced then the Eargo6 and many other OTC/DTC products.

So you have to spend 3 grand about every 3 years or so. These are the same as $500 Nano hearing aids. Only these are waaaaaay tooooooo expensive. These are for people who have slight or moderate hearing loss. Personally, I would never buy any HA that is rechargeable. Much rather have a replaceable battery. I was interested in finding out about these Eargo's. Now that I have. They just aren't good enough. Especially for their cost. Thanks for the video.

I tried the non functioning fit samples. I’m an adult male with a big head but unfortunately although they fit fine in one ear, they were too tight and painful in the other. Also for both ears I noticed distracting rubbing sounds when was eating, yawning, etc. I would definitely recommend ordering the free fit samples before spending any money.

hmm, i was excited about the chance to see what these were like until i read the following "These non-working samples are for fit & feel only" Also Eargo wants to be able to send people who sign up emails, text messages and phone calls! Thanks but no thank you. At the cost of over $2K - USD, there are better options which are fitted hearing aids dispensed by licensed hearing aid professionals. Like you, I want to be WOW'ed by some of the new OTC/DTC products, so far though, in too many cases, once all the info is known, it becomes more of a no, not quite there just yet.

Hey I'm Poppa, I whole heartily agree. I think that we're in a transitional phase at the moment with the introduction of DTC/OTC devices and while companies like Eargo are excited by the prospects of what they can do, they still have a lot to learn. I'll keep testing and reviewing any new tech until we find something that sticks! Thanks for watching, Matthew

I think your review is a bit skewed and I don't know if that is because you didn't fully read the information provided by EARGO as they strongly suggest you getting a professional hearing test performed by an audiologist or an ENT MD/DO, but that being said if you found that the hearing test by the EARGO app is inaccurate as an Audiologist you should reach out and express your concerns. All that said my results from EARGO matched perfectly to the one performed by the Audiologist in my ENT's office. I have found that it is an incredible product that has made my quality of life extraordinarily better. However, I have the EARGO 7 not the 6 which is the product you are reviewing. Again, rather than simply complaining about it online as a professional in the hearing industry I would think they would be happy to hear just how inaccurate your hearing test was so they can better their product. Not being harsh or rude in anyway and if it comes across that way it certainly wasn't my intent. Thank you for sharing your opinion.

Hello Matthew. Great channel! I am looking for an "invisible" HA and may try the Eargo 7. My question is about the Signia Silk X that you show as well in this video. I have tried it with several different open "click sleeves" with a less than adequate fit, but see in your video the Silk with a dome. I would like to try a dome on the Silk but my audiologist is not providing that option. Can you direct me to the domes that fit the Silk? Thanks Matthew for your excellent work and attention to detail.

On my soundmatch, it shows the same results as the audiologist hearing test - at least from the looks it matches my ski slope type high freq loss. Not sure why yours was so far off. The Eargos have been working well for me.

Thanks for the video I was waiting for an Eargo 6 review. I currently have the Eargo 5's, they help me quite a bit but sometimes the amplification isn't enough and they definitely don't help me much in a noisy, bar type atmosphere. Eargo just offered me the 6's for $2200 and I was wondering if you think it's worth the upgrade. I have mild to moderate hearing loss. Thanks!

Hey Rich, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Honestly spending all of this money on OTC devices have you thought about investing in an audiologist and a set of prescription hearing aids? Thanks for watching, Matthew
@Sashazur
@Sashazur Жыл бұрын
From what I can tell the only difference between the 5 and 6 is that the 6 is supposed to automatically switch programs based on your environment. Even if it can do that perfectly reliably I wouldn’t pay $2200 for that.

I’m seeing an audiologist on 12/7. A couple of years ago I texted for mild perm hearing loss. I have difficulty hearing conversations at restaurants, in noisy places etc. Sounds like these wouldn’t be for me then? I want soothing that’s very discreet, will allow me to comfortably wear glasses and will let me wear my expensive Focus headphones I use to listen to vinyl records. Any recommendations Matthew?

I have mild to moderate hearing loss. I use a pair of cheap OTC hearing aids / amplifiers that I bought on Amazon. Frankly, in noisy environments (like a restaurant), I'm far better off removing them completely and moving a little closer to the person I'm having a conversation with. Good luck.....

Hi James, Yes there are plenty. With a more severe loss though you'll have to look for a traditional hearing aid. Check out the Starkey Evolv Ai CIC Wireless models. Thanks for watching, Matthew

You can physically since the Eargo devices sit inside your ear canal. As far as what the sound would be like, I can’t say since I haven’t tried it.

@@HearingTracker I just tried the Eargo samples and fit-wise they definitely would work with over-the-ear headphones, and probably also the kinds of earbuds that just sit in your ears. But they wouldn’t work with the kinds that plug into your ear canal. As far as what the sound would be like, I can’t say - they were non-functional samples, and I’m not going to buy real Eargos, because one of my ear canals was just too small and sensitive.
