Should have had the original lineup play “Barracuda” - they performed “Crazy on You” amazingly after all these years!!
@DuaLeaD10 жыл бұрын
Here we have a rare example of getting to see literally back-to-back comparisons (different songs though) of a band's classic lineup vs the new lineup. A band becomes famous for the original magic that created it. That doesn't mean that through tragedy or strife, bands haven't been able to replace core members and maintain success. But this is a loud and clear example of the magic of that classic lineup. They TRULY sounded like the Heart we all fell in love with. It sounded AMAZING compared to the Heart cover band that followed. And I wish I were joking, but I have to be honest. That super slow and disjointed sounding version of "Barracuda" was a mighty letdown. I know they wanted to share the spotlight with some friends, but it would have been more respectful to the legacy of Heart and their fans to let the classic lineup play the whole set. It would have been epic....They haven't played in 30+ years and still sound better than the touring lineup - That speaks volumes!!

You know what. Thanks for that you really Hit exactly what I wanted to mention. It is the first thing I noticed was the difference in the sounds of the 2 bands. For me the FAT sound dropped right off. Huge difference and oh dear what a Pity. :) Have a Great day .

Thank you for hitting that nail on the head. The magic that was created from that original lineup was not limited to the Wilson sisters - it was the sum of all parts, with this video as Exhibit A.

I first just saw this and didn’t know the history that well. The Fisher bros are the legit sound, and heart and soul. No pun intended. I’m disappointed in the Wilson sisters for fooling us that grew up in 70’s and 80’s. Original lineup rocked!
@bobloblaw8660 Жыл бұрын
Agree with the assessment here. What really ruins Barracuda is when the drummer comes in he drags the slow down even slower. Michael's drumming on the original record is fantastic

Fisher is not "hogging the spotlight" hes just reclaiming what is his. I'm just a casual Heart fan. I know the 70s lineup is better than 80s onward lineup. Now I see why. Roger is an awesome musician, and true performer. Look at him man, just going for it. You can see the thought balloons above the audiences head ":Damn ALL those killer riffs were THAT guy, not Nancy". Roger if your out there you earned a hardcore true blue fan from this one single performance. No disrespect to the girls at all. I applaud Ann & Nancy for putting personality conflicts aside to let the original band play. Debbie Harry wouldn't let Nigel Harrison and Frank Infante play at the Blondie RnR HOF performance. So the guys who played (and in some cases wrote) on the hits that got em in to the hall didn't get to play in favor of the then "current" lineup. This is just Roger showing who the Heart of Heart truly is.

+David Lindsay Agreed. I love the Wilson sisters, but the guys in the original lineup deserve way more credit for giving the band its hard-driving, Zeppelin-esque sound in the '70s. No doubt, Ann is one of the greatest female rock vocalists of all time and Nancy is a solid rhythm guitarist, but the original guys were really at the core of the band's sound. Nancy's signature songs were the acoustic "Silver Wheels" and the intro to "Crazy on You," but she was never the lead guitarist. Roger Fisher and Howard Leese were the ones who played their signature guitar riffs and all the solos. With those guys gone, Heart hasn't been able to recapture their original guitar sound.

SuperFroJoe The original band was not the band that played in the mid 1980's, the original band was the 1970's and very early '80's and at the time all the songs from them were heavier. Crazy on you, Strait on for you, Barracuda, all the original band. The teeny bopper stuff of the mid '80's was the Wilson sisters using the name Heart and honestly they should have called it the Wilson sisters at that point the original band and idea was long gone.

To me the whole Roger Fisher aspect to Heart makes me sad. He was forgotten by most. He was their top notch electric guitar sound for Barracuda, Magic Man, and Crazy On You -- and there wasn't any electric guitar tunes after that with Heart other than some Zeppelin cover tunes they did later. Imagine the music they *might have* created had he stayed in the band. Sad, sad, sad.
@schuinful9 жыл бұрын
I think roger is an excellent guitar player? He seems to hog the spotlight though. He doesn't seem to like anyone else showing their talent. Just my impression
@Zoetropeification9 жыл бұрын
It is pathetically sad that during their induction ceremony most of the inducted members of the band were kicked off the stage after one song and not allowed to perform a 70's song that the original guys were instrumental in creating in the 70's. It's unbelievable to think that the musicians who can play Barracuda better than anyone else were probably standing in the wings watching this rendition. I understand they are probably friends with the Wilson sisters but if I were in the position of Cantrell, Cornell, and McCready I would have been embarrassed and even insulted in being asked to play with the "current band" while the honored members of the band stood and watched. Sad is the only word to describe the Wilson sisters not be able to find it within their hearts (irony noted) to genuinely share the stage with the other inducted band members.
@mda0379 жыл бұрын
Zoetropeification I completely agree. I thought that was a classless move by the Wilson sisters playing a classic like Barracuda without the guys that made that song happen. It clearly shows that there is lingering animosity there. Crazy On You and Barracuda are two songs that are largely responsible for them getting into the Hall of Fame in the first place. Why not let the original guys play both? The first song seemed like...okay, you guys get to play this token song and then get the fuck off the stage and let our real band play...also we are going to use guest guitarists that had nothing to do with it at all. Tasteless.
@schuinful9 жыл бұрын
Well, if you had read their book, (the updated one with the new epilogue) it said that one song had to be played by the original lineup....another song had to be played by their current lineup....and the other song had to be performed by musicians from other bands. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee requested this. I agree that the original lineup should have played Barracuda but please get your facts straight before you say things that you don't know about.
@Diggerdog2nd9 жыл бұрын
schuinful I didn't know that . Thanks. Its not the ladies fault. I think it was a dumbass move by the hall though to suggest the current band be up there though for anything. Despite not having played together for decades, the original line-up really does kick it out in serious style. And so nice to see Roger Fisher doing his thing. He was - and remains - a highly vibrant and personable guitarist, whose technique and musicality added so much to those early tunes and - frankly - nobody in the band has been able to duplicate with that touch and magic. Ditto Michael Derosier, whose deft touch on the drums kicked the band like a tank (in the Led-in sense), but was never heavy in the leaden sense. As for Ann and Nancy - consistently very fine...and the award well warranted, if long overdue.

Happy to find a thread with opinions of distinguished musicians and longtime fans. Roger is the guitarist who introduced me to Ann's voice. If it hadn't been for Roger's guitar, I may have not noticed. For that reason alone, Roger Fisher's place is etched in history! Roger contribution to music is more than the band, Heart. It is pre-Ann Heart; it is Alias, and the interesting solo albums he has released from his house through the years, available online for many years, and the live shows for charity and otherwise with various artists. Ditto Howard Leese and the rhythm players Fossen and Derosier. Giving the extra 1% to Ann and Nancy was a class act that is like an alimony and aristocratic acknowledgement that the friendship between the Fishers and Wilsons, at one time was real. You don't see gestures like that nowadays. As many singer personalities capitalized on the talent of the lead guitarists responsible for the band's sound, and moved forward with different line-ups, the two sisters forged ahead. I'm thinking, Mick Ronson, Lindsey Buckingham, John Paul Jones, etc. But Ann & Nancy's talent stands on its own. I'm happy Roger Fisher's guitar introduced me to Ann and Nancy, because the poetry and melodies I have enjoyed over the years has supplied alot of comfort in hard times. Thank you, Roger Fisher, and for your solo releases, a couple of which I own, and your wonderful playing. It is truly wonderful they met on stage for this deserved honor, at least for one song.
@davidlindsay95649 жыл бұрын
Man, just watched this all again. The contrast between the original line up and the 2nd part with the current lineup is astronomical. DeRosier is amazing, Rock solid and makes it look easy. Fisher is astonishing to watch, having the time of his life and lovin' it. Infectious spreads right out into the audience. Fossen holding it all down with DeRos. Howard in there, Rock solid with the rhythm guitar. I think Heart lost a lot when HE left even though that was what, late 80s.? Even with the Seattle rock gods from Alice in Chains,Pearl Jam & Soungarden bringing in the heavy artillery (and a harder rockin song), the 'Barracuda' performance isn't as stunning as the 'Crazy on You' one. I have NO nostalgia factor on this at all. I think they all oughta mend the fences and get back together.
@avocate20178 жыл бұрын
+David Lindsay Even after they had gone more pop and mainstream in the '80s and were doing power ballads, they still basically had a hard rock sound because Howard was still in the band. To me, he was the linchpin of the '80s lineup of Heart as the only one of the "original guys" to still be with the band. Even in the early '90s, they came out with the awesome "Black on Black," which was essentially "Barracuda Part II" because Howard was in the band. He was never just on rhythm guitar with Heart. In the '70s, he was a co-lead guitarist with Roger. He was the one playing the harmonizing solo with Roger on "Crazy on You," and he and Roger had that awesome guitar interplay on the studio version of "Barracuda." In the '80s, when Roger was no longer in the band, Howard was the lead guitarist.

roger fisher was a big part of their sound and proof of that is how they sounded post roger fisher....not just roger fisher but a few of the guys they had...the band lost their 70s edge...they did so-me good ballads...I like their 80s songs...but roger fisher was a key part of their guitar sound not to mention his energy onstage and charisma onstage...he was humble...he could of got a couple women to sing the songs and easily had his own version of heart if he wanted....but I think after he left heart he just decided to leave it behind..he was plenty talented though, talented enough to spot ann Wilson and recruit her...no roger fisher= no heart

I am not arguing his talent, he was in the "very" category but I blame the 80's sound on production and trying to be "current" which may not have been the best move on their part.
@illbarry9 жыл бұрын
Richard Cameron In the 70's Heart wrote their own songs. Fisher is not credited with a lot of songs he co-wrote. At the time the band structure did not necessitate it and it was the way many bands did things. The Fisher Brothers were the leaders of the band at that point. They didn't need the credits. You can't equate the world today as it was 30 years ago it is just not the same. In the 80's with everyone else gone the Wilson sister literally sold themselves out. They hired new management, new PR, and they only wrote a few songs recorded. At that point very honestly they should have called the band the Wilson Sisters, because it was no longer Heart. The whole concept of what Heart was, was now gone. They were just some side show pop act for teeny boppers. The Wilson sister's made a lot of money from it, but they lost a lot of credibility as serious musicians.

Because Ann and Nancy are still pissed off at their old boyfriends. That's what it comes down to. Their egos got hurt so they decided to humiliate them at the Rock and Roll Hall Of fame. Ironically, I heard from a couple of people who work the show that Anne was really freaked out about seeing her ex now that she weighed 300 lbs. She was extremely self-conscious about her weight and she took it out on everybody around her backstage especially the original bandmates. I guess that's why she wound up marrying some old Nut Job who was so cuckoo that he actually went after Nancy's kids one day and the police got called. Ann and Nancy didn't even speak for about a year after that. Both of those women are really screwed up. Nancy didn't want to ruin her figure by having kids so she had a surrogate deliver twins and we're still not sure who the father is. And finally had gastric bypass surgery and she lost a lot of weight but then put it back on within a couple of years. There's stuff going on there.

This video illustrates more than ever that Ann and Nancy weren't just Heart. They were a band and the men played an integral part in their sound. Today, the Wilson sisters say they are Heart, but those of us knew knew them and loved the original band know better. Put another way: no DeRosier, Fisher, Leese and Fossen = no Heart. BTW - new drummer sucks. Can't play Barracuda.

Thanks for all the comments, especially from the drummers. I've been around long enough to see singers and guitarists tell some shitty things to drummers. Such as, 'no fills' or 'slow down.' The botched Barracuda might be an Ann thing. Controlling EXACTLY what she wants. I've heard good things about the drummer who played on Barracuda, that he's quite accomplished. He may just be dealing with shit orders from The Wilsons. Yes, either way Ann and Nancy should be ashamed that their desire for control leads to sub-bar performances that amounts to a bad coverband. The world saw what was the real deal and wasn't that night.

Their all great but then their is ANN.. There is nothing without Ann but the whole group is amazing. Roger is fantastic.

+jerry willingham Agree. Both the original and current band are good, but the only reason any of them were on that HOF stage is because of Ann's voice.

I read some of the comments below, and I see people 'debating' over people they never met. How do you people debate about people you don't know? wtf? The only thing you know about them is their performance. You don't know any of them in HEART. When the original 'band' stepped on the stage, they rocked! Their is no telling how far they could have gone if they stayed together. They probably would have made the hall of fame 10 years ago. We will never know. Just enjoy the music. Their awesome!

Ann put all of her heart in Crazy in You, and nothing was left for this really slow and grungy version of Barracuda. Should have been the original lineup
@Nola21311 жыл бұрын
Anne's voice is as powerful as every if not more; one of the best voices in rock imo male or female. You can tell she's really going for it here; that second verse was amazing. that tiny little hitch/crack in her voice @ 2:26 gives me goosebumps no matter how many times I replay this. Nancy is a rock godess nuff said there , and still hot as ever. Chris Cornell's induction speech for them basically said it all.

They all played their parts to make the band successful, but Ann and Nancy steered this particular ship to the top ( and more importantly) kept it there for decades!
@SuperFroJoe10 жыл бұрын
For anyone mentioning Barracuda being slow, it's because Ann asked them to slow it down. Has nothing to do with the band.

I think Fisher and Leese gave the '70s Heart that Zeppelin-esque hard rock sound, and those guys played cool harmonizing guitar solos. Nancy was at her best when she was one of 3 guitarists in the band and playing solid rhythm guitar. Even the '80s Heart still had a solid guitar sound because Leese was still around. Nancy has never been a co-lead guitarist, and it's even more obvious in the current line-up. Many of the cool guitar parts from their songs are left out of the live versions now.

I know what you mean. I agree that Fisher was the one who really provided the guitar edge, but I was just saying that Fisher and Leese sounded great together, especially when they played all those harmonizing guitar parts. Fisher was the better lead guitarist, but Leese played both guitar and keyboards, and he did play some nice solos even on their poppier '80s songs. The point is that most of the signature guitar riffs from Heart songs were played by Fisher and/or Leese, not Nancy.

You're right about them selling more records in the 80s. I still think Roger is the resentful one. He still calls Heart his band--that's why he looks like he's having a blast. I still think he's showing off. Yes, he helped form the band, but after he and Steve were let go, Ann and Nancy created their own style of music, their own words etc. They just decided to keep the name Heart. It wasn't just Ann and Nancy who decided to let them go...it was the whole band

I think Ann and Nancy both look hot and how classy that they allowed the original guys from Heart to play with them. Too many bands let the past ruin their moment to allow everyone to celebrate together often for the last time. Classy ladies, would pay to see the original Heart reunited.

+craigformykids classy how they "allowed" the original guys to play? Dude, the "original guys" were inducted into the HOF, too.
