In 1976 I was 15 years old and absolutely in love with Nancy Wilson. Not just her beauty, but her amazing guitar playing. I spent hours learning the acoustic intro to "crazy on you". What a challenge that was. It helped me grow as a guitarist. No youtube back then and tabs had just started coming out. I learned everything by ear. Took hours. Thank you Nancy for the valuable lessons and your beautiful face on the album covers.

Here's what I find so impressive about Ms. Wilson's playing on Barracuda. There are countless videos here on KZbin where popular KZbin guitarists highlight the most iconic guitar performances of all time. In these videos, the channel creator will typically give a short monolog telling the audience a little about the performance, and why it's so iconic. As an aside, those of us who are old enough to have been alive when these performances first aired usually know why the performance is considered so iconic, but we sometimes forget that many of these performances are older than the parents of the average viewer! Then, after giving the monolog, the channel creator will play a part of the iconic performance on their own guitar. So many of these "iconic guitar performances highlight" videos will rightfully feature that stage performance of the Wilson sisters performing Barrucuda. You know the one I'm talking about. Of all those highlight videos I've watched, in recent memory, not a single modern day guitarist has even tried to replicate Ms. Wilson's guitar playing. Instead, they outright admit that they aren't even going to attempt it, and they just play the original clip, which causes me to chuckle every time. There are some incredibly talented guitar players on KZbin. The dearth of players willing to try and emulate Ms. Wilson's playing on Barracuda is a real testament to her unrivaled guitar playing skill!
@soupernutt95082 жыл бұрын
I never saw her ratings as a guitarist, but she's certainly a 10 (ask an Olympic gymnast how hard it is to reach that level). I really hope she doesn't need the money. And I also wish I could afford one of these (or play it half as well). I actually met the band at a record store (Apple Records) years ago. I probably said something dumb.

@@kmilgram I’m not quite sure why you’re so impressed and enamoured with her playing on Barracuda. She just played the acoustic guitar which really just fills the song out. The credit for the guitar work on Barracuda goes to Roger Fisher and Howard Leese. Particularly Fisher, who’s tone and style of playing help make that song sound the way it does.

Same goes for video releases like live concerts on DVD. And yes - things like MTV Unplugged and VH-1 Storytellers count, too. And please note - this knowledge is not for Nancy only. It's for any popular musician selling a guitar to their fans.
