I was born with Pulmonary stenosis and have had open heart surgery to replace the valve back in 2011. I'm in Minnesota and am going to school to become an echocardiographer. Glad your heart is doing well otherwise! 💓

Hi! I was diagnosed with SVT earlier this year: at the end of March I fainted after classes (1st year physio student) and since then have not been able to make 2 weeks without fainting and random heart rates of 150 while sitting and it worsened to 240 at some stages while lying down (fortunately for me one of the girls in me and my sister's friend group is a 4th yeat physio student that I have a lot of contact with - at "braai's" and also during the semester inbetween classes) 😬 only told my parents 2 months later and made an appointment at my GP and she suspected paroxysmal tachycardia (prescribed beta blockers, since I also have a functional heart murmur since birth - a hole in my heart) and asked me to find a cardiologist near the university, so I asked my lecturers for help with that... I finally got an appointment at a cardiologist for 31st of May... on the 25th of May, I wrote anatomy (write theory in the morning and practical part in the afternoon) and after that we had physiology class from the same lecturer that gives parts of anatomy. After the lecture I quickly talked to her about new symptoms I experienced since she is a GP and she called the cardiologist to try to move the appointment earlier (since she knows him and she was the person who gave me the referral to him in the first place) but could not and she ended up telling me to go to the ER immediately and that she would rather arrange for me to write the practical at a different date. Since my parents live 4 and a half hours away, I asked my sister and later one of our friends to take me. At the hospital they did blood tests, x-rays, heart ultrasound and EKG. The next day my parents drove through since the hospital arranged for a cardiology appointment at one of the colleague of the other cardiologist. He did more blood tests, heart ultrasound, EKG and stress EKG... he saw something on the stress EKG and decided on Holter monitor for 24h. The next day I was diagnosed. I was switched from beta blockers to calcium channel blockers and high dose of magnesium. A few weeks ago I had my follow-up and turns out the medicine isn't working, so my dosage got changed, I am now on beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, magnesium and also blood thinners. The cardiologist also suggested ablation and the electrophysiologist that he recommended is at leaat only 45 minutes away from where my parents live. He explained that I will be starting with my final year end exams at the end of this month and Nov, and so I got an appointment for middle Dec (we start our academic year in January and end in Nov here in South Africa 🇿🇦). I already informed my lecturers and most of them are willing to allow me to only sit in on practical lectures instead of DOING it practically until I feel fine with lifting weights or working with electrical currents, as we do electrotherapy and in 2nd year we start working on Neurology and that requires transfers etc. I absolutely love tour videos and appreciate a behind the scenes type of view to prepare 😁

Wow thank you so much for sharing your story! Exams and classes with SVT can be so difficult! I’m glad you’ve been able to get help and you’re instructors are so willing to accommodate you! I wish you the absolute best of luck, keep me updated if you’d like! I hope everything works out well for you!!!🤍🤍
