Heart to Heart from the coach

The coaching magic words
After 50 years of coaching all sorts of people in many countries, (a few hundreds of them) , of all origins , races , genres , ages and talents , I must say that I have learned quite a few things , not only about the coaching science and the events techniques , but about people , human relationship and , not least , myself !
I have lost count of the thousands of competitions and hundreds of championships, (some of them at the highest world level) and the number of training sessions (maybe now well over 10 000 !), I have been attending and participating.
Each athlete being an individual and to be treated as such , it was the opportunity to share a part of so many lives. This when trying to find and reach deep inside people the operating levers which would make them achieve the things they wanted. And sometimes things they were not even dreaming to be able to do !
Each coaching relationship is a new story.
Indeed, there were successes and failures stories, some of them very emotional and heart breaking. In fact , the coach has such a special spot in people lives that he wears several hats : member of the family , replacement parent , friend , confident , life teacher, mentor , boss , mate , accomplice , scapegoat, model , partner …etc…
What a crazy multiple job !
With this booklet, I want to share with the readers my coaching philosophy which has progressively been building through all these years and stories and all the shared experiences. In spite that I have still the strong feeling to have made too many mistakes !
Hopefully it will be of some comfort and some use for athletes and coaches to improve their personal approach , avoid to do the same errors in their utopian quest of the Holy Grail full of ‘’Coaching secrets’’.
In fact, If there was to be one ‘’coaching secret’’ , then, everybody already knows it because it consist in some simple words which have been said billions of times by all coaches in the world and will be said billions of times in the future.
These words are :
