Apparently in 1968 the music executives doubted elvis was still appealing to young girls , so this special was a sort of test , and they made sure to stack the audience wth teenage girls to see if he stil had it , and how they would react. He had been making movies for years and the Beatles and other groups had been dominating the charts .. obviously it was an incredible success

Actually Tom Parker controlled the tickets to that show and released them right before the show to Elvis's guys and they had to scramble to get the audience

Totally agree with you regarding his charisma, and the movie. Movie was ok, but I could not stop thinking that this was just another impersonator, sorry! Butler did a great job, on an almost impossible task. Elvis was totally unique, and you just can’t capture or «learn» to be charismatic. That is something you are born with.

Hi - just to let you know i left a comment on the page where you did Elvis' press conference in Houston 1970 regarding his cough (from 1 yr. ago). As you can hear on this video, he says hold it i'm out of breath, wait a minute & a bit later you hear him cough. He had a genetic ailment (called A-1 antitrypsin) which causes COPD/emphysema + possible liver problems. He used an inhaler of which there is a bit of film footage. And yes, he was always nervous but you'd never know it once he put his foot on that stage. You can be surrounded day & night by a lot of people & still be lonely or feel empty inside.

So, in the 1990's, I was General Manager for a Courtyard by Marriott hotel. One day when I walked in I did an Elvis voice and sang: "Since my baby left me/got no place to go/so I get down in my car and drove to the Courtyard hotel/I'm so lonely baby, I could cry." The front desk girls giggled, then said "Mr. Pope, shut up."
@KristinKali2 жыл бұрын
LMAO!!! Oh Pope! I swear you can do everything!! :) I don't know if Elvis was huge in the 90's like Alternative? or Grunge music? :)
@The_Dudester2 жыл бұрын
@@KristinKali No, just me clowning (I did old Elvis). I got the job at the hotel because an investigator, close to a member of the hotel told me about it. At first, I thought he was pranking me (he pulled pranks) but three days later he angrily called me and said they would only hold the job for me two more days. So, I ran the hotel and still worked as a cop for 2 years, then quit the police job because: 1) I was tired and stressed out. 2) The management company begged me. But two years later, because my BFF begged me, I took a job as a 911 operator (he was a shift manager there) so, I worked the hotel and 911 for three years. Got fed up with both (long story) and lucked into running a high rise complex for a HUGE oil company after the turn of the century.

I was hearing Elvis in the womb lol he was my “boyfriend” when I was 6-8 lol he died when I was 8 and I cried all day. I am 53 and I love him so much more. The songs from this part of the show with the girls around him is my fave video ever of him. He is so playful and loves women to scream. He is so funny on all of the songs. He is gorgeous! His smile is like no other! There are a couple of songs he continues for a few minutes. You have to react to all of them lol I think it wasn’t the worst he has ever done. He can’t be touched especially in this setting, I think it is some of his best fun work. That is his old band that he got together with for this show I read. Thank you for reacting this is the real Elvis when he was younger.

Thank-you for this comment Lizzy! You are soooo funny too!! :) Your "boyfriend" would be happy to know that you are still singing his praises dear one! I am sooooooo lucky that this actually wasn't blocked!! :0 IM Jumping for JOY!! Maybe give me a link? or another song to look up?

If Elvis was alive and they showed him the script , he would have torn it up. the movie was 90 % fiction with the final 10% misrepresented events. the movie depicted Elvis as a sad, depressed, oppressed victim stumbling through life. which is far from the truth. Elvis absolutely LOVED being Elvis, he LOVED the attention he LOVED the adoration. He knew he was the luckiest guy on earth. Just ask Billy Smith how true and accurate the movie was.
