Don McLean wrote and recorded this song in 1971 as a tribute to Vincent Van Gogh. Vincent is considered one of the greatest painters in the Post Impressionist Era in the late 1800s. He never really was recognized during his lifetime, suffered a tortured life and committed suicide in 1890 at the age of 37. He died penniless. The last sale of one of his paintings sold in 2022 for $117,000,000. Don McLean’s lyrical poetry set to music is a true artistic tribute to one the greatest painters of all time. Very nice reaction. Much love and support from America. 🎷🙏🏼🇺🇸
