Does anyone have some Arena tips, or general play tips for a newcomer to Hearthstone? What are each classes strengths and weaknesses? These are my guesses from what I've seen so far: Warlocks are great at draw and minion control. Warriors are aggressive with minions and weapons. Priests prefer to draw things out to the late game. Druids rush to late game and suppress their opponents there. Shaman try to keep up "tempo". Mages are control spell based. Hunters are all about beast synergy. Rouges are about early game aggression. Paladins get value through divine shield and buffs. Does this sound about right?

I'll give you my interpretations of each of the classes because it sounds like fun. Warlock: Making small sacrifices for large benefit. Warrior: Outlasting your opponent and synergizing with damaged minions Priest: Synergizing with heals and great hard removal Druid: Flexibility and mana trickery Shaman: Extreme mana efficiency with a price Mage: Board control through spells Rogue: Tempo and high aggression Paladin: Board control and extreme efficiency on trades

In arena, try to draft strong value minions. Yeti is a prime example, because it has great stats for it's cost. Go for value over Synergy. It is safer to assume that the enemy does not have the one card that would reck you that turn. Pick Mage, and Flamestrike, 99.999999% of the time. In constructed expect the enemy to have cards of all degrees of rareness, in Arena expect them to have the more common cards more often than the less common cards. Build your deck to be strong all around, instead of just in one area. About 5 or 6 late game cards is normally about right. In constructed, watch others play, and look up which decks are good, and build those. Many of those decks will include legendries you don't have, so just make a Zoo deck if you cant make other decks. Early on, don't try to stockpile dust for 1 legendary, spend dust as needed to make rares, epics, and commons, unless that legendary is critical to the deck you are trying to make. At a minimum, log on every 3 days to complete your daily quests, which will normally get you enough gold to do a arena run or buy a pack with a little left over. If you are any good at arena, you can get more cards out of it than out of a pack, though it does take more games. Do Naxramas (if you can afford it, $25 or 3,500 gold for all 5 wings) on normal mode to get the cards, don't bother with Heroic mode, as you need specific cards to complete it and it is just a pain (I speak from experience.) And one final thing, when a card is nerfed you can get 100% of the dust it took to craft it out of disenchanting it. Follow these guidelines, and you should do alright.

Almost. Rogues are more about using their low cost combo spells like Backstab and Eviscerate to gain tempo early game and then maintain tempo throughout the game to kill the opponent over time. Paladins are less about buffs and more about using the 1/1s from the hero power to their fullest potential, along with delaying until turn 4 when they start using their insane 4 drops. Warriors are more about using their weapons to control the board so they can keep more minions on board. Shamans are about borrowing. You borrow 2 mana from next turn to play Lightning Storm for 3, which is insane value for its cost. Druids are less about ramping up to the late game and more about using really efficient cards on curve. A good curve with Druid makes the deck far better than it looks. Recently, Priest has gotten to be a bit more just solid minion based. If you can get minions to stick on the board you'll win the game through pure value. One note about Hunter. Synergy isn't everything, don't take bad beasts. Beasts rise in value, but not enough to value them over some better cards. Finally, Warlock is a big difference from other classes. You don't have to worry about value because your hero power is free value. You need to focus your deck construction entirely around board control. Cards which draw cards are worse in Warlock, so only really go for great effects and stats. You're looking only for tempo in Warlock, because you have card advantage down. Other than that, pick good cards and play well.

Lysomner Also, especially when playing warrior, remember that health is a resource that can and should be spent where necessary, unless it is very likely that the enemy can kill you if you remove some of your health (think Miracle rouge that has drawn most of their deck.) Never use some of your health if doing so would allow your opponent to kill you with what he is showing (minions, weapons, hero power, things you know he has.)

Just wondering: At 23:55 isn't it 0.25 x 0.25 x 0.25 = 0.0156 and thus 1.56% chance to get triple taunt totem instead of 2.78?

The reason it's 2.78% is because you can't get a totem that you already have on the board. So the odds go up to 1 in 3 instead of 1 in 4. On the first two times he totemed he had out a healing totem. So the math is (1/3) x (1/3) x (1/4) which equals 2.78%

Around 23.00 you calculate the chance to draw lethal. How did you calculate it? Did you consider the fact that you can draw azure drake and get a second draw in the calculations? I have studied math for some time now and I do not know how to calculate the chance to draw lethal if there is a chance to get a second draw.

Trump, what do u think of Mages in Arena getting to draft 3 Flamestrikes? I faced two Mages in a row who each had 3 of them, and as much as I put up a fight, it's hard to predict letalone play around that many.

You draft Warlock/Rogue and beat all those Mages ezpz (in theory lol). Kill them by turn 5 or 6 before they can even flamestrike (or get them so low that the flamestrike doesn't matter at all). Otherwise, just accept that you can never play more than two cards that die to flamestrike when facing a Mage unless she's top-decking.

I've lost to Shaman in that exact way before, it's a true tragedy. Just recently I had a game where I went ham on my Mage opponent to get her down to 4hp because my deck had four swipes in it. She flamestrikes, of course, and clears out my board. I proceed to go around ten draws not top decking a swipe for the win. The last draw was a 4/10 chance of drawing it. Alas.

I have the same problem with Warrior. I try picking every single reasonable 6+ drop possible and yet I can never get more than 2 or 3 lategame cards (6 mana or higher). Trump's curve this time is my typical Warrior curve. I try my best to get it higher, but it's simply not possible! On second thought... what 6+ cards does Warrior have? Sea Giant and Boulderfist Ogre. I guess Warriors will just have to so with these 2 + Venture co.

Have you ever rushed down a mage in 7 turns? It's because his hand was filled with useless Pyroblasts and Flamestrikes. (Note: Flamestrikes aren't useless unless you pick 4 or more of them). Those mages will end their arena run with 2 wins max.

You don't really ~need~ all that many late game cards/minions. To be successful as Warrior, you should A) draft Gorehowl, B) keep the game even until you draw gorehowl, and C) win the game by killing up to seven minions with your op weapon. I think that card is ridiculously broken in arena. It's basically a super flamestrike. Better hope you saved an acidic swamp ooze or GG. Of course, if your hp is too low it won't work, but that's your fault, not Gorehowl's! Or just pick up the Venture co. Mercs and Boulderfist Ogres and Stormwind Champions that are offered to you (if the opposition isn't a death's bite or fiery win axe). Most classes have the exact same big guys to choose from. The only class specific big guys I can think of is huge Druid Treants, Fire/Earth Elemental, and Temple Enforcer.

It's good to expect little from Warrior when he has so few weapons and a lot of not synergy in his deck ala Undertaker. I love playing Warrior when he has a good amount of weapons, but otherwise it just hurts. Sometimes the deck is so bad that I actually want to retire it instead of play it lol. In particular, I feel so helpless versus Paladin as warrior if I don't have enough Death's Bites. The stupid 1/1 tokens just add up over time and kill me.

It's because Trump is cowardly and is afraid of Deathlord's deathrattle, and to be fair it is a reasonable fear. If Deathlord summons something too big and you cannot deal with it quickly, then you simply lose, and losing from your own card kinda sucks. It also loses even if it summons something minor if it got shadow word pained / stampeding Kodo'd / Crazed Alchemisted. Despite all that, I still think the card is awesome. I've come to embrace RNG in arena, as I usually pick Mad Bomber and Mind Control Tech very highly, and Deathlord is another good RNG card. Most of the time, Deathlord pulls out a 3/3, which is easily dealt with, and sometimes it pulls out something super trashy like Murlic Tidehunter or Novice Engineer.
