🤖💬 The Titans mechanic is one of the most powerful in Hearthstone's history, but has it pushed the game too far? With their overwhelming Turnaround effects, universal usability, and lack of activation conditions, Titans redefined the meta and escalated Power Creep to new heights. But here’s the paradox-players absolutely love them! Just like Colossal minions before them, Titans created exciting, game-changing moments that kept players engaged for months.
So, is this really a mistake, or just the natural evolution of the game? In this video, we break down how Titans changed Hearthstone, compare them to past mechanics, and discuss what this means for the future.

I would like hearthstone to be in a state where non-terran starships are playable. I'm fine with my big timmy minions being destroyed or exiled, but i don't like them turned against me every time they hit the board. There's too many cheap cloning and stealing effects in this game.

Big timmy? Big mana cost minions? Yes I can't stand priest. They can steal or erase your minions too easily.

Titans tapped into what a lot of people wanted to see at the time. It was fortunate to be in that rich vein of 2022-2023 sets all succeeding and that there were cards from them that were mandatory until they rotated out. But the problem with upping the ante is that if you do it too much, the power creep gets way out of hand. Hence how vocal people were come the final set of 2024 that they wanted things to go in the opposite direction. This has been building ever since the Discovery mechanic became more common.

Quest rewards without the quest. They need conditions. They need sacrifices. I miss when they made these insane cards rewards from hard to pull off combos like Mogu Cultists or Elwynn Boars. Now deckbuilding is just "add the titan/hero card of the class and the flagship neutral legendary from each set and miniset" and win. I'm glad they rotate out but the game can't heal as Starcraft set the powerlevel way too high.

I'm so frustrated with Reno, that most of the time I just rage quit the game. It does not just clear the board, it poofs all the minions away so if I was building a starship, now all of a sudden I have nothing. Terrible game design. Most of the Titans are completely unfair, especially Amitus, Amunthul, and Sarg.

The Sunken city meta = the time where united in stormwind and Alterac where the main reason to play were quest and hero cards so powerful that the only thing sunken city did was ad some utility cards .

As someone who was on hiatus from the game until well after the release of Titans, and therefore has very few cards from the set, i am remarkably excited for those completely broken cards to rotate out.

amanthul singularily killed any attempts at homebrewed control or midrange. oh, heres ANOTHER priest, bet he doesnt have amanthul in opening hand to make me milling/controlling/etc ineffective, while at the same time locking his own game down for the next three turns (assuming you didnt bring removal to deal with a 10 health minion like a titan)

can we take a moment toappreciate that Big, the archetype, effectively died BECAUSE of theprimus, yogg, amanthul, and the other titans? its like blizzard decided that the "new" Big archetype would be dungar+yitans+cheese... feels like commander in MTG, I stopped playing that a few years ago too.

I actually like Yog as a titan, except that "cast 2 random spells" part, which adds needless RNG.

I strongly disagree with the deemphasis of decisions, I think that it boosts the type of decisionmaking where its like “should I commit this or keep it so that I have increased value after the turn-around,” as well as like “should I commit this turn-around or can I wait until my opponent has a Larger advantage.” These choices emphasize knowledge of your opponents deck and gamestate (if you understand that your opponent can build up more advantage easily you should chill out but if you feel like youre gonna die otherwise you should try and turn the game around)

Let's be realistic. The average player is playing a (net)deck they copied from online, likely following some kind of solitaire OTK strategy. They have no idea what they really want, except to win at any cost. The only balance or nerfs they wanna see are to whatever strategy counters their netdeck. The average Hearthstone player should not be the metric by which this game is balanced or by which new cards are designed. That being said; Discover and copying cards is a massive part of the problem. Legendary cards exist as a seperate rarity because they are by design meant to have huge impact effects that make them too powerful to have two copies of in your deck. So why on earth can we discover extra copies of them? It defeats the whole point of the Legendary rarity. Blizzard knows this which is why we've got "(Once per Game)" on ever increasing amounts of Legendary cards. But there is a much easier solution, just remove Legendary cards from the discover pool except in cases where it specifies a legendary card (such as Paparazzi). And don't get me started on silly situations where your opponent is about to run out of cards and they'll just pull randomly Kil'Jaden out of nowhere from a Discover a Demon card. That happening in Arena (where the whole point is everyone only gets 1 Legendary) should give you a free ticket for another run and automatically send a HS dev to go take a time out and think about what they've done.
@ouchi05
@ouchi05 Күн бұрын
Regarding your views on the average player, copying decks online to win is likely correct, but the game has to be fun for them to keep coming back to play in the first place, therefore balance and design have to take into account the average players' desire.

Agree here with everything. Discover is not a good mechanic at all - there is a reason we build decks. Being able to pull things out from thin air defeats that purpose. That said, limited discoveries (like the "Gift" cards) are actually fine. Likewise, discovering from your deck is fair, since that's basically just drawing cards you put into your deck. One of the interesting things in the old days was knowing what kinds of resources your opponent might have, and playing around them to come on top. A fatigue game might come down to who makes the absolute best use of their limited resources. Kil'Jaden (as cool a card as it might be), completely kills this idea. Even if both players have it, it comes down to who draws better demons at random. I miss Classic. Yes, there were some cards that definitely needed to change (Gadgetan Auctioneer being a prime suspect), but at least you knew what you needed to play around. I would like to see a return to that kind of format, adopting some of the better mechanics from the modern times (like Minaturize/Gigantify, though it should be either/or, not both; or the "Gift" cards).

"Was the release of Titans a huge mistake?" No.. creating removers were the huge mistake because they killed everything which requires a board.. mainly after Showdown.. these two expansions together made the last year antifun because this game was based on board play. We need mana to use cards. If any of these are manipulated such way then it means the death of the fun. These removers just made the enemies job too easy to win. I have never seen so many easy win in this game before.. So I think, Titans were not a mistake.. creating too many removers in it was the huge mistake.. I also loved The Sunken city expansion, things just seemed more balanced at that time for some reason.

The Titans were an impulse that gradually provoked the growth of Power Creep over the past two years. It was not an instantaneous process. The new Turnaround cards became even crazier as a response to the power of the Titans. The same applies to the mini-set-its power is a consequence of a broader process that was initially set in motion by the Titans. In the 10 years of the game's existence, the overall power level of effects has never increased so drastically.

The turnaround card are fun when you play it or get outplay by them the first time. After 35 time just geting voided by amentul / reno / any blood dk remooval its really exasperating... This kind of thing should have a downside and just a straigth upside... For exemple im going to take the mtga aproche of board wipe. End of the sun is a board clear without trigering there death effect and preventing there réanimation will giving a litle token that you can transform into a créatures that have stat equal to the amount of victime of the spell. The kind of thing that would be disgusting and horrible to play against in hearstone. But to mitigat this : you can just get counter spelled from hand and loose a lot of mana. And im pretty sure that Hearstone are now arriving at the point that block they cant balance theire ultra turnaround card with just having secret without creating a sens of really really injustice and seing your deck just being coubter byna remooval pile who win because every remooval have an unfaire upside... A game when everyone have all the answer is not interestong its a wars of top deck. The first to not have the peefect top deck loose

And today, the game is very weak, only warriors have very strong legendary cards and no one wants to play! I'm going YU-GI-OH Master Duel! .. There will be two major events within YU-GI-OH Master Duel, each event will give 1000 gems each, with the gems you can buy any item within the game: Character avatars, game icons, field skins, cards, icons, wallpaper, space to create more decks in your account (* there is no such thing in Hearthstone, Hearthstone is very backward!). A new solo mission appeared that not only gives you gems when you finish it, but the cinematics were in Japanese anime!

Why does a hunter's junk have a broken deck? I put together an interesting shaman deck but you have to be lucky to buy the combo cards, games in Hearthstone are pure lottery, asking for games by chance, if I could buy the specific card early on, it would be an interesting game! >>Hearthstone is a piece of sshhiiitt!

I love all of the cards; Titans, board-clears, Colossal minions, Legendary cards, Turnaround cards, etc. What I love about Turnaround cards is that when you need them, you "hope for a good draw." The problem with some turnaround cards is that they can be added to an infinite combo, in order to "grief" your opponent. (Examples are your opponent plays the first Reno (to go back to full health), and then bounces the Reno back to their hand. Or your opponent gains 100,000 Armor and walks away. I hate OTK decks (though I watch Mark McKz every day), as they prevent fun for both players.) Power creep requires players to add Silence to all of their decks. I enjoy cards that have "until end of game...", but I know they can be fun or broken. I very much enjoy cards that modify your deck (like Incidius, plagues, meteorites, dredge, bonus stats to minions in your deck, etc.). I don't play many of the fun-but-high-Cost cards, as you need Ramp, taunt, and Prince Renathal to survive long enough to be able to play them. The Titans are definitely "Pay To Win" cards, but once you have them, they are auto-include cards.
