Can we please address that you don't need thirty generations on witches in your ancestry to be a practitioner? And you don't need to have been blessed by old man Gardner himself? That a lot of witches have never worked with a coven, and that self-dedication is both very real and very valid?

Straight up! Well said! I think so many people are wrapped up in feeling exclusively special. We're all special in our own right, but we also can relate to each other. No one needs to lord a badge that says they're the "Most" special over each other 🤦🏽♀️. I think it comes from a sense of insecurity, (and being scared about what happens if your badge is taken away) and honestly, that makes me sad. The first person I told I was a witch was my mother, because I trusted her, and I thought she would understand. She immediately told me I would burn in hell. Surprisingly, my dad, who’d been a pastor for fifteen years, sat down with me, let me list out why I was leaving Christianity, and then explain why I chose to be a witch. Until my dad died, I felt supported with my choice. After almost two years, my mother is finally starting to come back around with a “don’t ask/ don’t tell” mentality, but I think she finally understands how much she hurt me.

I’d got told if I persisted with (this who har) I’d be removed from our circle of friendships and completely shunned. I’d adorned my home with my magickal tools, crystals and deity figurines, it looked pleasing to my atheistic that I’d hoped for. But when these people saw the items, I was judged and poked fun of, and it hurt. “I will not talk to you anymore if this is what your into.” That was 20 years ago, those that judged and disrespected me aren’t apart of my life anymore. I was shunned, and I’m happy that happened, because it showed me these people weren’t the right people for me. I was very hesitant coming out of the broom closet and I’m still weary of who I acknowledge my spiritual life to. I don’t belong to a coven and I’m a self taught witch. I live in a very small conservative community in America. My best friend is a practicing Buddhist from China. I have learned to keep my spiritual practice and thoughts secret because I know how people are here. My friend and I talked about Buddhism at work in front of others and I studied Buddhist philosophy from my friend. One day a friend of mine from work was driving me home and she told me to be careful talking to my Chinese friend about Buddhism because it could imperil my soul, that my Chinese friend was already not going to heaven because of her beliefs. this person was also friends with our Buddhist friend so I couldn't understand how she could say that or believe that. I've had family members tease me for being witchy my whole life. and they used a lot of what you are saying here. Very nasty and threatening, beyond just good-natured ribbing. I was actually raped by two "devil worshippers" who thought there was some extra power taking a witch! Even my husband has picked on me, although he is not threatening and good-naturedly teasing, I can handle his teasing, there is nothing mean in his teasing as there is with other of my so-called friends. when I heard how my one friend talked about my Buddhist friend, I realized it was anyone different and not just me. But I can't believe this type of crap happens in the 21 century. So much for tolerance. I'm also nb and new to witchcraft - I'm also investigating Wicca to see if it's right for me and so far it feels like jumping from my previous very gendered religion (Christianity) to yet another very gendered religion. There's a lot of emphasis on male and female gods, their hetero relationship, and childbirth. I love the moon, and that's an aspect of nature with which I most look forward to interacting, but the mythos of the relationship between the sun and moon does not sit well with my own experience with gender.

I have been told that I'm not truly an atheist or a skeptic if I do witchcraft. It's as if they think the only secular practice that exists is no practice at all 🙄 That's ignorant, bc obviously other secular practices can be done without being attached to a belief system. You can do yoga without following Hinduism, you can meditate without following Buddhism, and you can connect with nature without following Animism. Witchcraft is no different. Honestly, I no longer have the emotional investment needed to educate people who can't be bothered to research for themselves. If I wanted to diffuse a situation with an asshole all day, I'd sooner go to the bathroom and deal with my own.

I once took this challenge and asked a very religious woman about how her beliefs can make sense in the context she was giving them and she couldn't answer me. This accomplished two goals: I learned about another's beliefs and how it shapes them and the woman never talked down to me about my beliefs again. 10/10 Would try this again.

To me being a witch means love and acceptance for everyone and hoping that they will do the same. I've had my share of ignorant comments and questions though. For instance. I had a young woman ask me how are you a witch? You have children right? I said yes and what does my children have to do with being a witch? She didn't said well don't witches eat children? Or do which is just other people's children?it's bad that you have to explain the people that what they hear from fairy tales and movies is nothing to do with who we truly are.I told her that some of the most loving and kind-hearted people I have ever met and spoken to the most understanding and accepting people I have ever met were witches! I've also had the issue with trying to hide the fact that I was a witch for my children's School. They found out last year and started a rumor as grown adults around the school that I myself was a devil worshiper. They spoke about it amongst themselves so loud that students overheard it and started to tell their parents my kids were no longer allowed to hang out with their friends because their friends parents thought that they would be a bad influence. It is sad that we have to hide who we truly are because of people being misinformed. So much so that they don't even give us the chance to get to know us .and even would have their children stay away from the hours just because of something we practice. I almost considered stopping my practice just because I felt like my children were being punished for my beliefs but my children want to practice as well when they get older and told me it does not matter what people in the world think about their mom or them as long as we have each other they are happy. I just think if everyone become more educated on witchcraft that they would not be so fearful of us.

I LOVE Sabrina!" "Yeah.....that's not a thing." 🤦🏻♀️ Not gonna lie, I generally don't tell people that I am. I just say I am deeply spiritual in a nature based way. In my life, I don't need to discuss my craft or beliefs with anyone in any depth. It's mine and mine alone. A few hand selected people know. That's my business. I have less than zero interest in people's opinions of me. I'm not going to offer up something that will fuel their fancy. If them seem decent occasionally I will tell them. If not, I truly don't need them to know.

I have met 3 other people in the workplace that I got "vibes" from that persuaded me to "gently" approach the topic because I too, am afraid of being treated differently by nurses, doctors, who may not want me in their operating rooms because of what I practice, so I keep it quiet. But from those 3 ladies that I had a feeling about them also being witches or similar to me, I was right! And it felt so nice to be able to have conversations with them and in the same token, each of them keep quiet about their practice too. We just aren't accepted still. And this was the 90's so not everyone had internet access. I agree with all you said, but because of that experience I'm super open about talking to curious people and newbies. Once got laughed straight out of a room once when someone didn't believe me when I told them. Their response to it was "There's absolutely NO way. No way does a Witch wear a Pikachu hoodie, is short like a leprechaun, and a patchy-ginger." I could take being criticized for being four-foot-ten (I know I'm short, it does however hurt to be looked at and treated like a child when I'm twenty-six), and I could take being ridiculed for enjoying a good worn-out hoodie (It was a gift from my younger brother years ago, it's comfortable, and I get cold VERY easily), I could even take the jab at me being a ginger. The thing that made me leave the room was being called a leprechaun and the "patchy" bit. First of all, who just calls people a leprechaun? I feel like that is really rude. But the patchy part is what upset me the MOST. I have vitiligo over eighty-percent of my body and it makes my skin very sensitive (Combined with the pale skin of the ginger genes I've got and Summer is a nightmare for me; I burn easily in five minutes). I am super sensitive about my vitiligo being brought up because when I was younger a woman called me a racist child and took my arm under a hose and tried to "scrub the paint off" only to rub my skin so raw I bled and freaked her out. I have a scar from the incident, both mentally, emotionally, and physically. So I cover myself as much as possible. This person knew that and still said that. No it didn't stop me from doing Witchcraft, because I still do, but that really set me back and I began wearing a pair of gloves to also hide the faint edges of my vitiligo on my hands. They originally were my friend, obviously they're not anymore and they got upset when I told them that. Last I ever talked to someone about things I do.

Thank you so much for making this, and so so so much for mentioning no sexualizing witches!! I had a really bad encounter with someone a few years back where they just would NOT stop sexualizing me and the fact I'm witch- they'd come out with things like saying they kept thinking of me sleeping with them while "dressed like a witch" and then tried to suggest that I literally put a spell on them to make them continue having these dreams and fantasies about me and just wouldn't listen when I told them I didn't and asked why on earth I would when I had a boyfriend at the time and am asexual! That genuinely made me so uncomfortable and afraid of answering "yes" when others would ask me about being a witch because I feared I'd be sexualized again just because of my practices. So- yeah, sorry for the super long paragraph, but I just really wanted to thank you for including that because so far you've been the only witch I've heard say that and it was just so nice to hear.

I was trying to explain my craft to some of my colleagues and I was describing a beautiful (but VERY expensive) felt hat in multicolours that I want but probably will never be able to afford. My colleague immediately went: "Oh, so it's a GAY witch thing?!" For the record, I'm heteroflexible but I like this hat just because I happen to like bright colours in my possession and wardrobe choices. I was allowed to dress up at work on Halloween and I had been sad that I would not be able to wear the dress I had bought so, when this opportunity came up, I grabbed it with both hands. During the night, an elderly gentleman (I use this term loosely) was banned from the shop for harassing the staff (purely by coincidence: all female that night) and for pedalling 2000 year old lies. He treated one of my friends (dressed as a witch) like she was radioactive, was rude to another (in normal uniform) and eventually asked me if I knew what Halloween actually is. I said "Yes, it's a Pagan festival of Samhain ... " at which point he cut my off and finished my sentence with " ... when all evil is released into the world! And you want to celebrate it!" (NOT what I was going to say and also incorrect!) He shook his finger at me and walked off. I admit that I was mostly offended that he treated me in such a condescending manner but I spent the next few hours mentally lecturing him on how wrong his assumptions were and how insulting his behaviour was. Luckily for me (and very unluckily for him); my scary supervisor was already following him around and chased him out of shop yelling that he was very rude! He refused to come back and apologise for his behaviour so she banned him instead. All of this was triggered by my simply walking up to him and wishing him a Happy Halloween. On the plus side, that was one man and almost everyone else either complimented my outfit (dress, capes, sparkly tights & a little fascinator witch's hat on top of my visor) or at least said 'Happy Halloween' back. Some even said that I had "made their evening" by being cheerfully dressed up on Halloween when most people were trapped indoors. If you're still reading: congrats, I wouldn't blame you for having given up a long time ago! Blessed Samhain and Happy Halloween!

Thank you! I remember trying to teach a relative that, in many ways, what is "magic" and what is "science" is all a matter of how we choose to define something. He was partially relieved because he was afraid I was "one of those people who throw salt over their shoulder and say something weird and then say they just did something that violates the laws of physics." I have friends & family from many cultures, religions, and walks of life, and I always try hard to be equally accepting of all... but I've always found that the more deeply involved with a particular religion someone becomes, the more they're taught to not be respectful of nonbelievers. Yes, there are (thankfully) exceptions, but their number seems to be dwindling (at least on this side of The Pond).

It was just SO Very Rediculous! My Daughter, is a Witch & She's Proud of Who She is & So Am I. She Chose To Follow In My Footsteps. I Didn't force it on Her. Whilst My Son, just Doesn't Believe in Anything. He's an Atheist, and That's absolutely 💯% fine by Me! It's Their Choice. Blessed Be Hearth! ✨ Happy New Year's 2022 to You and Your Family!!! ❤️ 💜🕯️🕊️🌹🧹✨ I absolutely Love Your Video's & Your Channel! They are Truthful & very informative! Blessed Be Beautiful Sister! 💜

I'm so glad I'm a witch. I just want to put that out there. I just absolutely love this community and Magick. It works, it works, it REALLY works and the community is so awesome for the most part. Cheerz!

I find delight in being a stealth witch. It frees me up to go about my business and not waste my time addressing people who are "less informed" (I'm being polite). Sure, my good friends know I am. They are good friends because they understand. And after all, since we all tread our own path, that means I'm free to dress, have my hair, and enjoy hobbies as I see fit. I really don't feel the need to "look the part." A witch apart and among the rest is the life for me.

I have had made so many .. circles .. as a teenager, in my late 20's & early 30's, if I pace along a section of a factory production line, I end up creating a .. circle .. without even trying. Fairy lights and crows & ravens start showing up to .. roast .. me. Years ago I pizz off a few crow/ raven spirit lords. So any time they get a chance to have a little sport of making fun of me around people they take it. Witness creates .. Belief. And they feed off of honest emotions of kind humor from getting a good laugh out of people.

I personally dont mind doing readings or spells or helping with readings and spells for free when it comes to friends and family, but you're absolutely right in saying that it shouldn't just be expected of all witches

Great video Hearth! I've been told I'm going to hell, etc. Etc..... I'm a practicing Catholic witch. It really hurts when I hear this because I do believe in hell and I try to only do good. I'm a self taught, solo practitioner and I don't usually do anything for others in regards to spell work. I may light a healing candle or a blessing candle for loved ones but only if I have their permission. And I believe that add long as you are a good person, it shouldn't matter what your belief system is. Thanks for doing this! Hopefully it'll get thru to some people

I have never met a Wiccan in person and I have been a witch for 36 years. I have met hoodoo practicioners, I have met Native witches (my great grandma and a benzedeira in the town I was born), I have met necromancers and hedge witches (my mom and her friends), I have met Catholic witches (my grandma and her friends). In my neck of the Woods eurocentric traditions are rare... Most comon practices have Catholic, African, Native roots.

Thankyou xx I'm a baby witch /wiccan. Only started 6 months ago. I'm not in the broom cupboard, but I'm not completely out either. So, to watch you be so confident is wonderful. I hope that with time I could be too. Thankyou again xx BB xx

As a content creator and business owner, the emotional labor that comes with it can be exhausting especially being neurodivergent and having chronic pain. I think my biggest gripe is patience when people are seeking answers as there can be time zone differences and I don't work 24/7 and do require sleep. There is nothing like waking up to an onslaught of "why aren't you answering me" or "I need a response asap" messages especially if they are coming from a significantly different timezone.

I havent gotten a lot of these (I only started practicing very recently and haven't told a lot of people) but I've always felt a connection to witchcraft/Magick. Most of the people I am around are either religious/wouldn’t be accepting or think of witchcraft as pretty trivial and stupid, so I haven't been subjected to these myself but I've had to sit and listen to people laugh at Magick or ridicule it. This is a really good video for someone who is quite new and feels slightly guilty about practicing even if that wasn't the intended purpose lol

I've had people demand I approve I'm a witch by moving something with my mind lol For the record, this is a psychic ability called telekinesis and has absolutely nothing to do with witchcraft or being a witch lol A witch may have this ability but non-witches can too. As an example, my mum is a Christian and has many psychic abilities including telekinesis, and myself - a witch - does not.

i've stopped telling people i'm a Witch. because in all honesty it's ill advised to go around telling people that you are one. let people discover you. let people find out themselves. ;) your a mystery. a gem in a pile of stones.

A lot of us olde pagans and witches kept ourselves in the broom closet for a reason. I won’t belittle myself explaining my faith and practice to those who would judge me. It’s not worth my time.

My favorite.... "Are you in a cult?" My mother asked me that when I was talking to her about my religious choices. I've had others ask that as well. I guess a cult of one being a solitary practitioner.

I’d probably laugh if a person told me I was a devil worshiper because my antlered deity is a female. And anyone asking to find a witch’s mark is gross and deserves shunning.

as far as "looking" like a witch. it is always intresting to me, when witches can tell if others are witches. being able to recognize the little things that we have in common.

Over heard an ex-friend of mine tell someone(on Halloween of all holidays) that the reason why people left "christianty" was because of shows like Charmed & X-Files, & movies such as Harry Potter & Hocus Pocus. The following Halloween, she had the nerve to ask if I was still "into" Wicca.. I can't describe the hurt(& rage) I was feeling because of that. She has tried to be friendly, but for some reason my gut tells me to stay away from her. It's gotten to the point where if I see her in public, my blood literally starts feeling like it's boiling. But, that not the worst of it. My mom(doesn't know I practice & has a "my religion is the only true religion" mentality) knows I'm avoiding her, but can't seem to figure out why. & about 2 weeks ago, chewed me out for not interacting with her in the store, saying that I was an embarrassment for acting the way I acted. I became so upset by this, that I didn't eat for 3 days. Since then, whenever we've gone to the store, she's telling me to interact with my ex-friend when I see her because this ex-friend told her something about being "hurt" because I wasn't interacting with her...

Someone asked me to prove I’m a witch. I showed them my dried petals, my amethyst pendulum, and my book of shadows and explained what they were all for. They then told me they wanted to see me kill a sheep. I told them I’m not in a cult.

I'm 3 years a Witch. I learned by searching old school. I absolutely agree about not bombarding any practitioner with questions. Absolutely good lecture. Blessed be.

One of my least favorite things that happens with new friends that don’t practice is that they get interested fast without asking enough questions and they come to me like “So I did a love spell on the guy I’m talking to..” and want me to save the day after all the negative side effects that come from a non practicing person trying to “do a love spell” all willy nilly! Lmao

Ya even though I’m just a beginner I know that it’s really hard to reverse a spell and exhausting

Thank you for this! It is nice to see more people speaking out about it. It is a hard subject because of the stigma behind it. I am glad you are so open and honest about being a witch. My practice has actually saved my mindset and am still learning how to be a more centered and focused person, while leaving negativity behind.

I think in all aspects of life there are some really entitled people who just expect everyone to do everything for them. In college, one person literally sent out an e-mail to the entire class toward the end of the semester saying that they didn't do any work all semester and if we could send them ours :/

This brings to mind my adventure a few months ago. I work in Pharmacy, and so have been working through the whole pandemic, and let it slip that I was pagan which must have been a mistake as the comments were mostly offensive by my coworkers. I don't mind educating people and so merely corrected some of their misunderstandings when the pharmacist went out of his way to go all the way home, grab a bible, and bring it back just as my shift was ending to give it to me to "save my soul" whilst actively accusing "my people" of causing the pandemic. Needless to say I never mentioned I was a pansexual witch in case he brought the torches! So happy to have left that job!

I found your channel a couple of days ago and I can’t stop watching your videos, so informative. I’ve haven’t labeled myself a witch yet because I don’t want a label, and I also came back to it after years of not practicing it. But totally can relate to some of these. Clearing up misconceptions can be tiring Edit: 16:03 girl you also described what me and other artists go through. “Can you draw me for free?” “Can you draw this for free? You’ll get exposure” 😒

I did a protection spell-jar a while ago and told this to some of my foster fam (I live in a youth home/foster home middle ground, so just teens), and the staff that was there that day and the others thought I was summoning demons and told me to keep it away from them.
