That was Manson for me. Slipknot still has a special place in my heart but I found Manson in middle school and he changed how I seen music. I stopped taking lyrics at face value and learned a lot from the genre.

I remember when the Iowa album first came out. I waited in line to get it LOL. When I first listened to it, it sounded 10x heavier and angrier than their first album which immediately locked me to it. As a metal drummer, I really loved the aggressiveness.

You nailed it. By Corey's own admission, he had a very difficult a adolescence, and this song was written for the second album, after all of them had been beasted through an insane tour schedule, drugs, booze, nine members all struggling to adapt to being full time with one another. It's the angriest album of all time. :'D

Personally, when i was going to a really bad place mentally, i was almost to the point of "ending myself"...This is the music that got me through that. And it is the reason i chose that mask to be tattoed in me, in a homage to that, to the feeling i was going through, and managed to not do it. "It never stops you can't be everything to everyone Contagion, I'm sittin' at be side of Satan What do you want from me? They never told me the failure I was meant to be, yea Overdo it don't tell me you blew it Stop your bitchin' and fight your way through it I'm not like you, I just fuck up"

This isn't a song to just request a reaction for. You have to get them to do other Korn songs before hand the let them know what they're getting into. Sending someone into that song with no clue is just plain wrong. So many people request this song from people who've never even heard of Korn and that's just mean

This is great! I ended up here because of watching videos on their new drummer, and this hit me like a brick. I'm from Brazil, and 20 years ago when my therapist asked what I listen to and I showed her this song, all I got was a worried face and some notes on the pad. Neither of us understood much of the lyrics and much less the meaning of it, which is a whole other phenomena on itself. I did eventually manage to survive my teen years by "stop your bitching and fight your way through it", without realizing it was part of this song. But this reading you did would have been much more helpful at the time. Good job!

I’ve seen 3 of your reactions tonight. You are clearly educated and give a shit about people going through pain. I’ve been a cop for 25 years. Part of the “suck it up” generation. A few years ago my bucket that held my shit overflowed and I had some significant issues. I was lucky enough that my department noticed and gave a shit. I went to a critical incident debriefing school and spend three days crying about shit that I hadn’t dealt with. I had NO idea. I do my best to teach the new people to talk about the shit they’re dealing with to people that they trust. Unfortunately, I completely agree with Corey here. People do indeed equal shit.

Respect...Almost perfect interpretation of the Song. I think there is nothing more to say. Really great. Deep look, I'm not used to that. Everybody else just would see the hate but you see whats behind this wall. But..."stop your bitchin and fight your way through it" thats the point where i think you get it wrong - "im not like you, im just fuck up, come mofo everybody has to die" and before "It never stops, you can't be everything to everyone". So i think its his way to say "most People will always hate you, doesnt matter what you do, so fck it, stop your bitchin (beeing anything for anybody) and fight your way through it, connection - no connection, fck off, we all have to die anyway"

as a long term fan who got in to these guys at the start, this song dropped when i was mid teens going through a horrible family situation, and your introductory explanation was on the nail head. i was so angry i knew i shouldn't be around other people the goal was insulating myself for other peoples well being.

When I was a teenager I got in trouble and had to go to counseling by court order. My counselor read the lyrics to I Am Hated by Slipknot and immediately tried to blame Slipknot for all of my trouble and I flat out said no that’s stupid, my problems stem from a terrible home life where I had to deal with drugs and alcohol and abandonment where I lived with people who hate me and went to a school where teachers hate me because my older brother was a POS to them. Slipknot had nothing to do with it. It made me feel BETTER.

Reminds me of the saying “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”

I just want to say huge Slipknot fan I am. My favorite band. Having said that I don’t always hear their lyrics but the ones I do I can’t put into perspective the way you just did. You are very intelligent. Very impressive feedback on this song.

Thank you for helping me understand that key line in the bridge! I never knew there was any hope in this song.. just thought it was venting, but i like it even more now.

Slipknot was there for me when it felt like nobody else was. Corey’s lyrics had a way of describing EXACTLY how I managed to feel, and the energy and anger of the music was a way for me to vent how I was feeling inside. People talk about how dark their lyrics are, and they are. But on the same coin, they also talk about how to fight through the pain and to come out on the other side. And when you do, you’ll be stronger, and you will have grown. Metal is about positively venting your anger and energy, and turning it into something positive. Metal shows are fun. There’s camaraderie there.

One of there best tunes. This song has saved me from when it first came out and still does. After being bullied Hate and made fun of and feeling like nothing. Protect yourself from bullies and your own negative thoughts. For me it helped me. Some people are shit. You just have to fight anyway but absolutely still help Others.
