I can't believe heat from fire became a trans culture meme and community practice phrase. I often get questions about the origin of the phrase, why I used it earlier on, and why I incorporated it... so in this video we talk about all of that and appreciate the best heat from fire memes!!
There are some cool phonetics moments in the phrase but at the end of the day it's no substitute for practice, diligence, exploration, and self feedback! Now that we've got that out of the way... ITS REAL MAGIC USE CAUTIONLY. lol xd

I am forever grateful for your lessons. My voice was the biggest concern I had in transitioning. I found your videos and it’s taken 15 months but I’m now consistently gendered correctly, so much so that my mom even comments on it and friends are freaked out if I drop to my male voice. The mantra phrases and exercises helped me more than anything and it’s amazing to finally hear myself and not hate it. ❤️

In all seriousness though this is really interesting! Not only because it's a sweet anecdote from your own personal experience and practice, and also a phrase that apparently contains a lot of important elements to train our voice awareness, but maybe there's also a broader idea that we can take from this that I find encouraging. Something like... we can find certain specific challenges for ourselves to work on, return to, refer to. Even if its a challenge that seems daunting at first, it can also become a kind of inspiring mantra as it becomes a symbol of how far we have come! The legendary and well-loved "heat from fire, fire from heat" memes are just an example of how much your work has inspired so many people and it's great to see Z happy that one of her practice phrases has become a symbol of shared determination for the trans voice community

Wtf they turned heat from fire, fire from heat into an actual poem😱😱😱??? Jokes aside the analysis of the phrase is actually pretty interesting. Never knew there was this much to break down about speaking a 6 word sentence which is mostly repetition. Analysis like this might make for good content in the future if there are any other phrases like this with some cool phonetics.

I've always loved the idea that communication is sort of equivalent to telepathy/magic. That thought has only solidified as I read Steven King's "On Writing." And "Heat from fire, fire from heat" is definitely an incantation. Kind of like applying buffs before the fight in a game.

"Heat from fire, fire from heat" is still the only phrase I can do that sounds passably fem to myself and in recordings. Everything else kinda falls apart, to my ears at least, and doesn't sound as good (even if other people still try to tell me the rest is good too...) It's my reset phrase basically to get me into the right voice, and it's the only thing that has actually worked for me. I can't raise my larynx at all with other exercises yet mimicking you saying this phrase has helped me sorta develop a fem voice so something must be working.

Okay... so I've never once said it when I've seen all your videos and even the memes... but literally rn, I tried it, and yes, my voice sounded so different, to the point where repeating this phrase a few times is literally burning my throat, like it feels like it dries up so fast but im not doing anything different from how I was doing any other exercise, it literally feels like it was straining me from sounding at a level I shouldn't be at... a meme well deserved honestly, holy cow that surprised me...

Hi Zheanna, that's very interesting how the vocalization creates specific mouthforms. I'm exploring the effect of deafness on vocal atrophy, and your phrase reminds me of how Deaf mouthforms are created from a resting position in the back where it's not focused on. I've even noticed when I'm signing that I'm starting to make all the little clicking sounds that Deaf make. It's all very interesting and I love learning about it, and I even think it's somewhat relevant to your explorations. Think about this, Deaf voices tend to have a lot higher pitch, and from a resting position, which suggests that continued talking works the muscles, stretching them and effectively deepens them over time, and yelling, especially roaring, does this pretty much instantly, so it's worth looking into~

Heat from fire has become a key phrase that some trans people use to tell other trans people that they know they're trans by their voice but in a secret, "In Group" sort of way. Like a.. secret handshake. And instead of just saying they know or outing you, they give you a wink and.. well I think that's pretty neat.

When I took German in college, one of the language tapes we listened to had "Ich habe keine ahnung", with the soft "ish" as in fish. It doesn't shape the mouth nearly as much, but it does have more of the fullness of a German voice anyway, I'm sure you'll find the right words.

I’ve also been singing and rapping for a few years and since realizing I’m actually a trans woman, I’ve been feeling depressed sometimes with making music and singing especially because it feels like I gotta start all over again from square one. You’ve helped me feel like it’s a goal I can actually attain, that it’s not impossible and you make voice feminization as easy as possible to learn and for that I’m truly grateful 🥰. I have to thank you greatly, to be honest I used the poem as a benchmark and after a couple of weeks i read it with my new voice and I could barely believe the big changes i accomplished thanks to you (dysphoria is still there but it's going to take a while for that to go) and I was so euphoric for the first time hearing my voice, once again thank you so much!!❤

I found the history of the phrase was interesting. I didn’t know it was a meme until I was a trans memes video from one topic, it was really cool.
