Through the process of fully feminizing my voice, I’ve unintentionally completely lost my baritone range since I never used it for so long. Ironically, now I just use my speech therapy sessions to re-masculinize my voice just so I can switch back and forth for fun and for singing.

Do you possibly have any good tips for training both ranges? I'd love to hear your methods if you care to share them.
@britneyhochman5204

@@Thorne_MacGregor To be honest, I’m mostly just doing vocal play, especially since I’m still figuring it all out. Recording yourself really helps with active listening I’ve noticed. Though I think the exercise I’ve had the most fun with is singing in the shower. I start with a scale exercise to bring my range as high as it can go in headvoice. After playing with that for a long while, I start singing songs with a lower and lower range. This helps with me switching in and out of headvoice seamlessly, so that moving into that lower range will come more naturally. Again, I should stress, I’m still figuring out how to train my masculine voice. Like unless I bellow, my masculine voice still mostly sounds just low-pitched femme. But I am improving, so I’d just say my advice would to play around and experiment. That’s how I feminized my voice in the first place

I love that feminizing one's voice is the same pattern as gender in general. "It's not what you think it is, forget what you know. It's a series of small things that go together to make up a greater whole."
@ThorsShadow
@ThorsShadow 11 ай бұрын
I understand where you're coming from and what you mean, but that wasn't her point at all. Her point was, that - FOR NOW - we should not bother ourselves with all these different terms for vocal stuff since it is - for now - not important and we should just get started with the exercise, so we get to the practice of things. She also said right after, that if we want to know more, that she has a Patreon, yada yada. The theory of how your voice works is still important. Because it makes your brain understand on a logical level, the things you are doing with your voice. Music theory still applies to the music you play, whether you know music theory or not. Grammar still applies to a sentence you speak in a language whether you know that language's grammar or not. The various terms for working with your voice are still in effect, if you make various voices. In terms of doing vocals for music this could be regarding "true vocal cords", "false cords", "vocal fry", using your "chest voice", "head voice", pushing from your diaphragm to get more power behind your voice, tongue placement, making different shapes with your mouth to alter the sound of your voice etc. Whether you are aware of it all or not. Gravity keeps you standing on the ground. Whether you're aware of it or not. Also, in regards to the sentences you put in quotation marks: Yes, what she does to make her voice sound more feminine is precisely "what I think it is" and the way she explains it correlates to a way, "that I know" from practicing vocals for music. She has a video "Voice Feminization for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS", where she has a short section in which she does a bit of vocal fry and uses it as a "neutral position" to switch between a heavy and a light vocal sound. She has a section in this video as well. She calls it a "creaking voice", in musical terms what she's doing here is referred to as "vocal fry". Ultimately, it is incredibly helpful to know what you are doing. Especially, if it's something like doing harsh Metal vocals, where you can damage your voice, if you don't do it correctly. But, if your goal is to make your voice sound more feminine (or masculine for that matter), it is absolutely fine to not bother with all that terminology "for now" and just get to practicing. Which is what she's doing and encouraging in the video. Have a nice day. :)

Hi trans girl here 😊 Yes the way it goes it that on testosterone the voice drops and that's permanent. So if we trans girls live in societies that doesn't allow us to realize who we are or get into puberty blockers.. it permanently damages our voices and we have to spend years getting it back. There are surgeries, but they are costly, and you still have to train a lot. But with trans bros their voice will drop when they go on T so that's really cool for trans men. And of course cis folks get to go through the right puberty and have their own voice. But anyway thanks for the interest and the comment 😊😊

Oh my gosh I love this video and I haven't even finished watching the whole thing but I just need to stop and say that this vocal creak exercise really made something click for me! I had been thinking of asking on the Discord about how to better hear the different qualities of creak, because (like you told me in some feedback) I have a harsh edge to much of the vocal creak in my speech and it's one of the things I am currently working on. Recently I had been thinking and listening in the attempt to understand vocal creak better, and I had realized from your advice and my own impressions that it's not the case that to sound more feminine that I want "less" creak, because I can hear that there is creak in feminine speech all the time, probably about as often as in masculine speech. I just want learn to have less of a harsh or "deep" or rattling creak sound. But I hadn't figured out how to more precisely hear the difference between masculine and feminine creak and that exercise really got me to hear and feel the difference and I think I managed to make a "shallower" and more feminine creak sound! Wonderful! Now I want to take further action and try applying this in speech... and then watch the rest of the video! Thanks for another great lesson Zhea! 😊💜

Thank you so much for doing this video, it is a topic covering strategies that I recently realized I needed to take my voice to where I wanted to go next. It has seemed to me that some voices, although perhaps technically very feminine, are a bit too bright and, well, youthful / childish sounding for those of us that are 1) bigger in overall size, bodywise and 2) chronologically older - I think this will be a great one to bookmark, as it seems intuitive (too me, at least) that for at least some women who are say 40+ and/or may also be quite tall or larger-bodied, a voice that is at least a bit larger and lower will fit them a bit more naturally. I also frankly feel for myself that, combined with good vocal purity and a snappy wardrobe, such a voice is classically feminine and can help you feel like a Hollywood starlet.

Thanks so much for this video Zheanna! I find the Femme-Andro and Sultry voices really appealing and if I hadn't heard the way you use "hyper-feminine voice" I'd probably use it describe these. To me they read not really as andro but as extremely femme for whatever reason. Nailing down the intricacies of these particular vocal qualities seems like the next step beyond just voice feminization. Like getting a girl voice is cool, but getting a particular type is next level.

So I couldn't get the creakiness you demonstrated. My voice just kind of disappears when I try. I sang tenor in choirs all through high school and university, so my voice has always had a "round" quality to it. And I was happy to notice that your regular pitch is pretty close to what I have already! By the way, you have a phenomenal range! I can't even hit the low notes you demonstrated.

I'm being a nerd here, but there's gases that work like helium (which make your voice higher) but make your voice a little bit high, or don't change anything, or make it a bit lower or a lot lower. 2:51 Voice texture! That's what it is! Is that the thing I'm missing in my mimicry of Larry Koopa's voice? My voice texture is the same as it always is because I don't know how to change that, but I get his pitch correct (because I'm pretty high pitch to begin with, so Larry's 13-year-old boy pitch isn't hard to reach) and everything else about his voice correct when mimicking Michelle Hippe's take on Larry Koopa, but the one thing I don't have correct is voice texture because that's the one thing I don't know how to change, so it stays stagnated at my regular voice texture, but going up to Larry's pitch and rasping and doing that all right except voice texture! My gooossshhhhhhhhh that lifts stress off me. Alright, so now I just need to learn how to change my voice texture... 3:25 No, I, by all means, agree with you there. That's exactly why I choose to mimic Michelle Hippe's take on Larry instead of Lani Minella's take on Larry. Michelle Hippe's take on Larry is higher pitched, raspy, and as such, far easier to mimic. I can't even get as close with mimicking Lani Minella's take on Larry as I can Michelle Hippe's take on Larry, my mimicry of Michelle Hippe's take on Larry is only just missing one thing and one thing only, and it's a pretty big and bothersome thing it's missing, I'm convinced that it's missing the correct voice texture. 3:45 Yes, this is the answer I was looking for, thank you so much! My natural texture has a bit too much edge in it. It's a bit too... I want to say grainy? Rough? Snappy? At the same time, my voice doesn't sound like how male voices traditionally sound. If I could achieve a more feminine voice texture rather than the androgynous one I currently have, I could better mimic Larry! Not sure I need to watch the rest when it comes to trying to modify the texture of my voice to sound more feminine so that when I go to Larry's high pitch and rasp my voice like Larry's voice, I will have the sound in the back being a feminine texture sound instead of a rougher, snappier, grainier but still not traditionally masculine texture sound, but I will watch the rest anyway, but I'm gonna post this comment before I watch the rest since I don't think I need to say anything else here, also considering this is for helping trans people with a lower feminine sounding voice.

Omg I KNEW it wasn't my imagination. I've been trying to achieve a sort of lower pitch/tomboyish voice and I felt like even though it *should* be easier than trying to do a super fem/higher pitch voice, it's actually been noticeably harder, I feel like my struggle has been validated XD

@@I-i9J yes and no haha, I've made overall general improvements, but I prioritized the basics because I was starting a new job soon and I wanted to rush a passing voice, which I kind of did, but I have my default nerdy inflection, so I don't yet have the tomboy quality I'm looking for.

@@tigerwizard6388 The fact that you are trying is the essence of the foundation, and this indicates your unwavering determination and the strength of your resolve to achieve this goal, which is truly remarkable!! It is unfortunate that you were unable to reach the tomboy tone, but if you need assistance in a voice call, I am present and ready to fulfill that, being a skilled individual in voice modulation "if you do not mind of course"

Soo.. Hi! I'm 21 years old and smoked cigarettes now and then for the past 2 years. (Between 0 to 5 Cigs a day). My question now.. I mean, the answer is obvious, but will it have a huge negative effect on my voice transition? Is it too late for me or does the scratchy feeling in the lungs go away and make it easier for resonance in the throat? Pwease keep making these videos!

The thing is, it's the texture and tone, it's not obvious to a lot of people, but there's a tone to it, like a very effeminate gay guy kinda voice, that slightly nasally tone with a slight low undertone.

How do you get rid of buzz in the vocal cords without introducing low resonance or vice versa? Is that just anatomical, or is there a technique for getting rid of both at the same time that works regardless of "instrument"?

Consistency is what I struggle the MOST in my life. And it's required for training voice. I hate my voice, why can't I just take pill and so it changes itself. I am only one week into this, and I am desperate, I can't understand, and none of my experiments are good. I just want not to talk ever again. I should take a break...
