Honestly from what I understand about music and tone production. If you can find an open minded pro or semi pro saxophonist, since they are basically doing the same thing with their throat in order to produce very high pitches. It sounds very similar to how the produce note extending above the natural range, too similar. I'm not going to say this would work guaranteed, but I'm just observing some consistencies based on one thing that I am already rather well practiced at.
@potatoproductions1397 Жыл бұрын
When I first tried these exercises I was legitimately startled. To provide some background I have a condition which makes faces harder to recognize so I usually tell people apart by their voice among other things. To be honest it was a similar feeling to looking in the mirror your first time dressing fem and realizing you don't recognize yourself but in a good way. This is the most interesting experience I've had in months.

villephant - Don’t worry about it. Once you’ve figured out how to sound feminine, just pick someone whose accent you’d like to have (maybe a from KZbin video or a podcast) and try to mimic them. In that way you can “re-learn” an Aussie accent, or learn whatever accent you want
@wardedthorn65234 жыл бұрын
Why is it the standard voice training phrase anyways
@Vitromancy4 жыл бұрын
@villephant Despite growing up in Australia, I could never do a "traditional Aussie" accent, until I was talking to a voice coach who taught me how for fun: Just talk with your jaw shut, opening your lips not your teeth. From there you can tone back how much you're opening/closing your mouth to vary the strength of the accent. So, even if you learn a feminised american accent, you can just re-aussie it again afterwards :)

Ah, the pharynx and the larynx. I'm a cis guy, trying to learn how to do harsh Metal vocals correctly (so, not hurting my throat). I also find the whole anatomy, that's going on within human vocal tracts when singing, speaking, screaming really fascinating. This video was very, very interesting. In addition I can use this to give my female NPCs in my DnD campaign more of a female voice. I mean, yes, I can talk in a higher-pitched voice but it will just sound like a dude talking in a higher-pitched voice. I never thought about what makes a voice sound male or female (for example, on many Metal albums, you can clearly hear, when a woman does screaming vocals vs. when a man does screaming vocals...it just sounds different). Really, beautiful video for everyone, that does anything with their voice. Be it as a hobby or a job.

I feel so lost and hopeless.... Just found you and it's so overwhelming how much work I have ahead of me. I was "gifted" what people call a radio voice which I hate and I can't make a high pitch sound if there was a gun against my head. Thank you so so much for putting these out here for all of us to try and learn from. Imma do my best to make use of them. ❤

Holy! Where were you when I started!!! This is going to take my voice the rest of the way, Omg thank you!!! I'm bigender and so the ability you clearly demonstrate of being able to so effectively turn that knob is very Very VERY appealing. Like... I'm probably about 80% of the way there, but I have trouble with volume. You're explanation about resonant pitch is the "Loud Spot" makes perfect sense and I'm kicking myself for not knowing this sooner! That must be exactly why I have a hard time with volume!!

This is a fascinating learning experience. The graphs at 2:28 seem to indicate this is a kind of frequency modulation such as used in Yamaha's FM synthesis: the voice pitch is the carrier, the vocal tract is the modulator. Amazing.

Hey to anyone struggling with this video (I am slightly cause I’m a bit acoustic). Another extremely helpful example is to imagine any instrument your familiar with, I play an electric guitar, imagining switching strings with my voice was a golden god damn ticket. I really think it’s more about what your brain can most easily and quickly relate to.

This reminds me of a classic singing technique for male singers which involves the conscious lowering of the larynx. This has the reverse effect as it expands the throat and gives it a deeper pitch, more resonance and lets it sound more masculine. So, basically the same in reverse. I am not trans but I record audio books and short stories. And some people were really surprised by my voices for female characters and how authentically feminine some of them sounded. Now I know why 😂 Basically, I already used a basic form of this because I already used shifting my larynx for a lot of my characters. For example, dwarves in fantasy always had a very low larynx voice while elves were very close to my natural or even slightly feminized voice with a slightly higher and more narrow larynx. Now, I can work with this in a more conscious manner. Thanks for that.

Your videos inspired me to actually start voice training after years and years of dysphoria telling me not to. However I have a couple issues. My natural voice pitch is around 85Hz and I find it very hard to actually get an onset going, even if I try to raise the pitch, and it just makes me feel super dysphoric and doesn't sound right. I've tried at around A3, which is one of the higher pitches I can produce that I know for sure is in my modal register but that's even harder. I know you say that pitch doesn't matter as much but it seems to be a bigger factor for me... The other issue is I can't really tell where my falsetto "begins", by which I mean the point where my voice would normally need to switch from modal to make the higher pitches possible. There's a big grey area around B3~E3 where I think it MIGHT be but I just can't figure it out. It's just not obvious to me. Is there some kind of like, feeling or something I should be looking for that can better confirm what register I'm in?
@TransVoiceLessons4 жыл бұрын
If your fundamental is that low and you specifically find onsets very challenging, it's indicative you may hyper medialize the vocalis muscle. This basically means you have normalized speaking with a certain muscle flexed and hyperfunctional. I would strongly recommend checking out my thinning video because that's the problem you are most likely going to have to address first. Soon I'm releasing a false fold video which will likely help you to. But if you thin your folds and undo the medialization of the vocalis, you will have less mass. Onsets will be easier because there is less mass and pitch will be much easier to go higher in pitch. Pitch and onset are really connected to vocal fold mass. When I say "pitch doesn't matter", I mean in terms of pitch being a gender indicator. It's important because it's an expression of mass, but fundamental frequency alone doesn't really express gender.
@AxemRhenoa4 жыл бұрын
TY for the reply. I've actually watched your thinning video and I find the concept really easy to execute. I've been practicing using it in normal speech but I get fatigued after a while, like a couple hours. I'll probably rewatch the video to try and make sure I'm doing things right, and I'll look out for the false fold video!

it’s actually kinda fascinating that there’s around a musical octave (and even slightly more) of difference between the masculine and feminine values of Hz. i mean you show values of 650 vs 1200, 450 vs 1350, etc on the screenshots. honestly, for all of my life i didn’t realise that the difference is so significant. i perceived it to be somewhere around 5-6 steps higher instinctively. learn something new every day loool. also, the level of effortlessness you’ve achieved with your voice is super impressive, great job. kinda tells that it’s been done with a deep sense of understanding of everything around the subject. and trans people, good luck to y’all in your journey!
@oblomovhans1659 Жыл бұрын
Hi, interesting, you mean harmonics and overtones peaks which make the voice brighter or darker rather than the actual pitch? as if I'm not mistaken the trans voice training focuses more oh make tones brighter and sometimes smoother than higher, staying mostly around D3 to C4 as pitches which can sound both typically masculine or typically feminine depending on the resonance used, though it's true male voices tend to dip more often below C3.
