Why not glue the insulation before fitting it? Location of the heat pump is not ideal as others have mentioned.
@bromide9996 ай бұрын
We already have solar and batteries. Insulated to achieve a EPC of A. Got a EV and now we are looking for a HP and at the age of 67. It’s not to get a quick ROI but to reduce our carbon footprint. One thing I liked was the water cylinder in the loft. We would probably need a 200Ltr tank. Do you have to do any strengthening of the joists to enable the tank to go in the loft?
@smartboilercompany19836 ай бұрын
As far as the loft is concerned for a cylinder it’s about spreading the load accordingly as it’s 200kg for that cylinder size. Building regs state you need proper loft ladders and a light and a boarded floor for service and maintenance.

Three phase in a 3 bed house how much electricity does it take

It’s very much overkill even with an EV charger. Not sure what the network distribution regs are with this tbh. My house has the same setup but I’m only single phase with 80amp fuse.

Vaillant Arotherm... What's the refrigerant? If it's one of their new propane models how did you work around the guidance not to site it near a window?
@smartboilercompany19836 ай бұрын
A window above is fine, needs to be 1m from an opening door. R290 is the refrigerant. When we do a pre site survey we can superimpose the Heat pump in position with the clearance around to check for compliance.
@TJames6 ай бұрын
@@smartboilercompany1983 R290 is propane, but good news about the window as it makes future install of a heat pump more feasible for my back garden.

I suggest wrapping the exterior pipe insulation with aluminum foil tape. In my experience, the sun ultimately degrades the insulation and the foil tape prevents this. Run it length-wise, bottom to top and it lasts decades even in the Texas sun.
@smartboilercompany19833 ай бұрын
@@davidmeermans1579 we have a special paint that we can apply every few years. This specific insulation is designed for external use and is water proof and UV resistant.

That looks awful, couldn't you have put it at the side or back? Let us know how much it cost to supply and fit and how much it costs to run every day for a month or two. That will put moat people off. People refuse to give these figures, especially running costs.
@smartboilercompany19836 ай бұрын
No other locations it could go to meet the clearances.
@smartboilercompany19836 ай бұрын
Unfortunately that’s the only location with the correct clearances. Cost all depends on so many variables and if you can get the bus grant of £7500 to help with the initial outlay. These type of jobs cost between 3-7k depending on what’s needed first the design criteria. Estimated running costs for the whole year of £1200 with an overall scope of 3.7. It’s already running at a higher scop than that and with the customer using solar, batteries and smart tariffs I would be amazed if his bill costs him more than £500 a year max total.
@defragsbin6 ай бұрын
You can calculate running costs from various dashboards of installs. Heat Geeks have a 'leaderboard' of sorts for a lot of their installs. You can see the kWh used per day, and we know the cost of electricity on various tariffs plus the standing charge. Maybe this is something that could be added to the heat geeks website? It'd be cool if you could pick an install and ask, "how much does this one cost per month on X tariff?" and perhaps even "Compare this to gas?" If you check a recent collaboration video with SkillBuilder, Adam (from HeatGeeks) does a breakdown of comparative costs and the heat pump is substantially cheaper. The only difference is they put some extra loft installation in before fixing up the heat pump install.

The workmanship and engineering look great and well thought out but the location at the front of home is never going to be accepted by my wife. An overview of why the owner was upgrading and ball park costs and anticipated savings, years to pay back. I think a lot of people are looking at these systems and are struggling justifying the capital outlay, the fact the government are pushing it is even more worrying as they don’t have to pay when it doesn’t work out, like the depreciation a lot of people are suffering with their EV’s.
@smartboilercompany19836 ай бұрын
Thank you, we try our best to do a quality job. Homeowner wanted to go full electric with battery storage and pv panels and reduce his carbon footprint, also has electric car and EV charger. The outlay can be larger than a gas boiler 100% agreed. Depends on your reason for changing from gas I suppose whether you deem that worth it. I don’t understand the payback people talk about. Most spend 5-10k on a bathroom and in excess of 20k on a kitchen with no payback, so why do we view spending money on our (essential) heating system gas or electric as an investment we should expect a return on or recoup our outlay?? Everything we own is depreciating in value in our home, and I think that homes that have renewable energy/heating will actually be more valuable as we move forward with the technology.

@smartboilercompany19833 ай бұрын
@@Chris-hy6jy totally agree, also how much less would a typical install become without all the compliance that is required just to access the grants. For all MCS registered companies the grant has be given in kind to the customer as well as being zero rated vat so a big financial burden if you are installing a lot of heat pumps.
