I'm personally impressed with 'butterfly'. I own two in zones 8a and 8b each in full sun in the ground and it doesn't trouble them at all. On the contrary of the two 'inaba shidare' I owned I've lost one and the other sees some scorch on the tips and it's under another tree in dappled light, but in a pot. Weird, no?

I agree my butterfly only get afternoon to late day sun and the cream variegation never burns.

Good to know y'all ! I've had my eye on Butterfly for a while now, and I've been wondering how it would do in my Zone 8a Texas, in dappled shade with a touch of late afternoon sun. Sounds like it will work just fine!

I live in Middle TN too. We have one Coral Bark about 15 feet, 10 years old. We just bought two more. They took a hit last year but have sprung back. We also have an emperor and waterfall.

Really glad I found your videos. I was heavily lead to believe that these trees were exceptionally hard to grow in high heat areas. I live about 30 minutes from Dallas, Texas and it gets HOT here. Hot. Oklahoma hot. But, your videos are making me feel much more comfortable and confident that I could grow a Japanese maple and it will thrive ^_^ thank you!

I have all of these except for Ryusen. May need to add that to the list. My 'Sango Kaku' was exposed to full mid-day sun this summer because I lost a large elm tree this winter that used to shade the SK. The top foliage burned terribly, BUT we had a record breaking summer with 47 days over 100 degrees and no rain (I do supplement with water 2x/week). We finally got some rain in late August, and I am amazed at all the new growth on the Sango Kaku, so I'm hoping if next summer is not quite as extreme that the SK will acclimate to its new sunnier location. It's well over 15 years old and about 12 to 15 feet tall so a little large to move. 6 years ago that same elm tree lost a huge limb that fell on this Sango Kaku and sliced one whole side of its branches off. It made a full recovery from that trauma. It's the "Timex tree." It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!! Gorgeous fall yellow color and red winter bark!

It sounds like you're in Texas based on your weather description. Do you mind telling me where and/or what Zone you are in? I'm northeast of Dallas and just starting to research beyond the typical Japanese maple varieties, and your comment peaked my interest.

Being in Wilmington, NC zone 8a, in a house that faces West, I've really appreciated this series. I've bought a bunch of trees from you guys over the last few years, but I've been keeping them in containers on the shady side of my house. So happy to hear about possible options for my front yard. Thanks fellas! #Japanesemaples 🍁👍

#japanesemaples I love these series of heat tolerant Japanese maples. I live in southwest Tennessee zone 7b and the heat/sun/humidity during summer months can be very brutal on japanese maples if not given the right amount of protection in the late afternoon. I have found Mikawa Yatsubusa to be very very durable in my area holding up excellent to the heat. I just added a “hot blonde” to my yard and can’t wait to see the growth and durability out of it this next summer. My “Summer Gold” is doing very well this second full season in the ground, I’m very impressed with its ability to hold that good color. Another killer video and I definitely need/want a Ryusen very soon. Killer informative video as always from the best in the business!!! Thank you so much for all that y’all do. #mrmaplebringstheheat 🍁🔥💯🍁🔥💯

Any red laceleaf varieties that can take afternoon sun in zone 10b california? The spot will be in a canyon facing west, so it will get a few hours of direct sun at the hottest part of the day, 1pm - 4pm. Any thoughts?

Really just depends on the heat index in that area. I’ve had customers with them in sun in zone 10 CA but heat index is the biggest factor
