You guys are super informative and I love your videos. I'm just getting into Japanese Maples and I want to get your overall opinion on placement and variety choice. I have a Twomblys Red Sentinel planted in a large pot and I live in Dallas. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

They are awesome plants. Typically most palmatums need some protection in your are but this one is great for durability. I would test morning sun with late day shade. A very established tree maybe able to take more sun
@benfanning7992 Жыл бұрын
@@MrMapleShow it seems to be a pretty tree. It does tend to have a fair amount of green in with the red. Is this normal for this species?

It should do well but heat index and humidity can he an issue in Florida

Can you recommend a Japanese maple that would survive in northeast Florida?
@MrMapleShow2 жыл бұрын
Lots of them so great in zone 8-9. Tamukeyama, Ryusen and Mikawa yatsabusa are some favorites for hot areas but most work in some shade with good drainage in that area

Now by heat tolerant do you mean Vegas heat, dry 110 degree highs?
@MrMapleShow2 жыл бұрын
No maples only work zones 5-9. The heat index in Las Vegas is a little to high for Japanese maples typically

I am in a coastal area of central Florida and here I am able to grow Japanese Maples. Although that’s probably because even though it does not get too cold in winter, it always stays below 100f in the summer

can I grow Japanese maples in hawaii.
@MrMapleShow Жыл бұрын
They work zones 5-9. I do have customers in higher elevations in Hawaii but they need a dormancy
@somedudefrom8089 Жыл бұрын
If it is a bonzai it can be put in the fridge for a couple of months.

Really hoping you guys can help me. I have a blood good Japanese Maple. It's only about 3 feet tall right now. I have had it for about 2 or 3 years and up until recently was doing pretty good. Even after this horrible summer with no rain and high heat. I live in Oklahoma close to OKC. I watered my J maple on a regular basis pretty much every day over the summer. It was looking really good and I want to say late August early October we finally got a decent amount of rain and a couple days later when I was going out to water I noticed my J maples leaves were completely dead dried and shriveled up and had changed to a dull orange color. Needless to say I was really upset. It was looking so good. So my question is what could have happened? Thanks in advance.

It could be possible that is is staying to damp. Make sure it’s not planted to deeply. We will have a podcast upcoming on tips for high heat areas with Bryan from Oklahoma
