Lifelong Newcastle supporter here. Would have Toney over Wilson any day of the week. Offers more versatility. Honestly, wish we never sold Toney in the first place, I guess we never knew he'd become as good as he has.

When he was on loan with us at Barnsley, he looked okay. Just that, okay. Very raw, I think most of us at the time thought he'd have a decent league 1/2 career - I don't think anyone expected him to be as good as he has been.

Harry Kane over performs his xG massively, but his conversion rate is so low and xG so high because he shoots so many times. That’s why conversion rate isn’t really important for strikers.

In the season he came back under jose, bale had the best goals per minute of any player in the league with 900+ minutes, and absolutely no one would claim he was the best striker that year. (As a spurs fan, he was really good and should have played more) When you come on against tired legs every game it skews things quite significantly imo. Put haaland or kane or toney in those situations and they match Wilson

If he’s bringing to goals per 90 and conversion rate into it he’s again showing that stats mislead you. Penalties have got to be considered for both, the chances that each player has in a game should be considered. Toney could be forced to shoot from a tight angle because of a bad set up, meaning his conversion rate will be impacted. And the styles are different. Wilson has come on late in a lot of games so he can play to his strengths of using his speed and direct running to get in behind defences as they fatigue. Toney plays 90 minutes every match in a system where he has to drop to be involved in defending and involved in the link up play

I would say they’re about the same level, the only real debate between them is because of external factors, Wilson has far more injuries, Toney has his gambling accusations, both make it difficult from an England perspective to choose them. Footballing levels though they’re both great but also not at the extreme elite level of someone like Kane.

Wilson is a good striker who hit an amazing run of form the last 2 months but hes nowhere near as good as toney. Against brighton wilson did very little all game and got a goal and assist in the last few minutes. Toney’s all round game is clear and their finishing/movement is similar.

Nufc fan here. Firstly Lewis is definitely on the spectrum isn’t he? Anyway Wilson is class and has a broader range of finishing than Toney but Toney‘s ceiling is so much higher. He’ll be the better of the two when people look back at the end of both their careers. Get Lewis tested, so the poor lad can get the help he needs

Lewis is going off goals per 90 and conversion rate for both strikers whilst also using the argument that they play for similar level teams. However that list also says Wilson is ahead of Kane on conversion rate so and spurs are closer to newcastles level than Brentford are. So by all of his logic, Wilson is a better striker than kane

Wilson getting 25 goals in a season is hilarious. Since Wilson's been in the league (2015/16) that would have won him the golden boot in 5 of the last 7 seasons, thats how hard it is to get 25 goals. The only players to score 25 in that time frame are Kane, Lukaku, Salah, Haaland. Thats it. Wilson is nowhere near that.

Toney takes it for me. Mental recency bias with Callum Wilson this season. Ivan Toney has scored non-stop all season at a consistent level in a worse team. Callum Wilson has been amazing and is a great player but there was a 3 month stretch after the World Cup where he just couldn’t score. Got 1 goal and 1 assist from December till March. Newcastle players have great purple patches but Toney is always on form

I'm not a fan of either club but I would go with Toney. He is a more complete forward and I think he is more consistent. Wilson is a good player and probably has better goalscoring runs in his career but then his dropoff is more significant than Toney's when not playing well, plus he is injury prone.
