Sir Bobby Robson is more than just a Newcastle legend, he's a football legend. But what he did for us as a manager and a gent who grew up going to every Newcastle game, he is one of our own. Need look no further than this quote: 'What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It's not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It's the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It's a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father's hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.' - Sir Bobby Robson We miss you Mr Robson, as Jose Mourinho would say

It comes down massively to recency bias from lewis' perspective. They are a big club but thats because theyve had more of a premier league status than any team in that area of the country. You have to take both recent form and history into the equation and face that newcastle are probably in the top 10-15 biggest clubs in england but the coming years could start to change that if they keep up the form theyre on. No way are they currently a bigger club than everton. (Slightly bias efc fan)

The RSSSF Rate the size of relegation based on the number of titles they won during their stay. The five biggest relegations in history are 1: Sunderland {1958} after having won six titles 2: Aston Villa {1936} after having won six titles {however the gap since their last title to relegation was longer} 3: Manchester United {1974} after five titles 4: Newcastle {1934} after 4 titles 5: Liverpool {1954} after 4 titles {and the same time from their last title as Newcastle, but the gap to the title before that was longer} 6: Everton {2023?} after 4 titles {but a longer gap to their last title. RSSSF also rank club's size based on a ranking system dating back to 1888. They award 10 points to the champions, 9, 8,,7 all the way down to 1 for 10th every year. If a team misses top ten two years in a row a point is deducted from their tally, next year two points deducted, next year three. The sequence stops when the team either loses all their points or gets a fresh top ten finish. I can advise that on that ranking, Newcastle were a bigger club then Everton only briefly from 1958-1963.

@TheAlphaDingo
@TheAlphaDingo Жыл бұрын
@@jorgeandrade783 it's pretty obvious so I'm sorry you don't get it. Football fans in the NE are football mad and the most passionate in the country by a long way. When Newcastle eventually increase their stadium to 70k capacity, they will still have huge demand. Everton do not have this problem. Their fans are not as loyal, passionate or dedicated. When they move to the new stadium or are relegated, they will have huge empty sections in the stands. Just look at last week, Goodison Park was almost empty at the 60th minute as their fans had given up hope and lost interest. Same goes for Liverpool, if they weren't successful, they wouldn't get the 90% tourists and casual fans who go to Anfield to sing YNWA and then upload their silly photos and videos to their social media for attention and validation.

@@TheAlphaDingo You’re making a lot and I mean a lot of assumptions Everton fans are some of the passionate in the country, always sell out the away ends, always turn up, and were the reason Everton stayed in the Premier League last season, it wasn’t Lampard’s tactics. You’re making assumptions about empty seats there’s no evidence to suggest that is the case. I have absolutely no problem imagining Everton selling out Goodison next season whether we’re playing Liverpool or Bristol City. Yes Everton fans left at 60 minutes however that’s because of all the effort they went before the game to have a coach greeting before the game turn up in huge numbers to see players that obviously didn’t care and let their hands down. Under the Mike Ashley era there were loads of reported empty seats. I’ve seen plenty of articles suggesting Newcastle had plenty of empty seats during Mike Ashley’s tenure and St James wasn’t always selling out so you’re being massively hypocritical here. Everton fans love their club through thick and thin, and also mentioning Newcastle being football mad. Liverpool is also a football mad city so don’t know the relevance of your point there Also www.themag.co.uk/2021/08/mike-ashley-suppressing-the-reveal-of-just-how-many-empty-seats-against-southampton-newcastle-united/ www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/newcastle-united-fans-boycott-appeared-9076811.amp www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7381459/amp/Newcastle-United-news-Newcastle-United-set-LOWEST-crowd-Mike-Ashley-era.html The hypocrisy of your statements here is crazy talking about empty seats when so much evidence suggests the number of empty seats at St James when Ashley was there

In all fairness, think we have the bigger fanbase but they're mainly based in the North East region; as a Toon fan living in the South East I rarely see other fans. Rarely see Everton fans either mind, and never met a Villa fan apart from one bloke visiting from Brum. That being said, Everton and Villa have more trophies and arguably a bigger history. We hold records but they're mainly from the 90s and mainly from one man, Shearer. That being said, I think that'll change in the next few years, and we'll definitely cement ourself as a Top 6 club and prove ourselves more, not just relying on our class fanbase

Everton and Villa are clear of Newcastle both in recent and historic success. No argument exists in that topic. A few lousy player records and a runners up medal from the 90s mean fuck all. Both Everton and Villa also have a bigger global and domestic following which can easily be seen on social media followings. As a Londoner who has also lived in Portsmouth and Manchester in the past I’ve seen Everton, Villa and Newcastle fans outside of the north east but one thing is clear, Newcastle fans from other cities are just Toon’s who have moved cities for work/family/etc whereas I’ve seen some Londoners who have decided to support Villa or Everton. There is no debate mate, both are clear and the Saudi takeover is the only thing that can change that reality but even then it will take time.

Being a 'big club' should be measured over a long time, after all English football and being English in general is nothing without a bit of history, as the country that give the world the beautiful game we diminish it if we don't consider this. Everton 120 out of 124 seasons in the top flight (rank 1 - 97%), with Newcastle at 91 out of 124 (rank 7 - 73%). Consecutive seasons in the top flight Everton 69 (rank 2) and Newcastle 6 (rank 13). Everton all time record 6825 points (rank 3), Newcastle 5054 (rank 9). Titles Everton 9 (rank 4), Newcastle 4 (rank 9/10), FA Cup Newcastle with 6 in 7-9 place and Everton with 5 in 10-12 place, fan base Everton rank 8 and newcastle rank 9. On the fan base rank they are a lot of subjective views there but Everton in 7-10 place and Newcastle 7-12 place, they both seem to average out at 8-9th place and seem to be about the same. Newcastle fans are delusional if they think they are top 5 in this area, they just aren't. Amazing local support, but it is primarily a passionate and large local fanbase and not Worldwide, Continental or even National. Aggregated rank - Everton - 5th; Newcastle 8th. You can make an argument for Newcastle to rank 7-10th and Everton from 5th to 8th, both top 10 English football clubs, but not exactly Liverpool, Man Utd or Arsenal. 20 years time maybe Newcastle are a couple of places higher and Everton a couple of places lower is a possibility, though i don't see any premier league titles in Newcastle's future, they'll do well to sustain it in the top 4-6 consistently., which they have never done for more than 3 consecutive seasons.

1. Everton were the last team of the 3 in the champions league. 2. Just playing in europe consistently doesn’t make you bigger if you win nothing. 3. Who else are people from Durham gonna support, it’s not even that far from newcastle. 4. Those trophies were from before my dad was even born. 5. Bigger average attendances is gonna happen when your club has a bigger stadium, but also when the city on has 1 club. There are 3 teams on Merseyside, and 3 teams in Birmingham alone without even mentioning the rest of the black country. 5. Just Alan Shearer alone doesn’t mean you have more iconic players than the other 2 clubs, and it is just Shearer alone because I bet you can’t name anymore. Players like Graeme Sharp and Peter Reid were part of possibly one of the best sides in europe in the 80s for Everton, just the circumstances of English teams being banned from Europe for 5 years altered their chance of being able to win a European cup. Villa have players like Yorke, Andy Gray and Paul McGrath. 6. The Saudi’s don’t give a shit about a clubs size. Newcastle just had the right people sorting out the deal. Saudi money can make any team successful, Man City are the perfect example.

@@Oskle616 I have no issue with that at all, I just don’t agree with the fact villa or Everton are miles ahead of us, people make it out like it’s Man Utd being compared to Blackburn. Like I said before anyway, our time will come and I’m sure in time we’ll be right up there.

We come 7th in the overall top flight tables list despite the past 15 years of relegation battles. Before that we were 5th. We've not won anything for awhile, but we were always there. Like Spurs in recent history. (Sunderland come 9th.)

@@aledjames7253 Competing at the top for most of your existence Imo is something that shows what a big club is. You can't be a bigger club and be 100th in that list can you. Everton and Villa are there as well. But saying Newcastle don't come close is just not true and a bit disingenuous.

@@aledjames7253 We've all been up there for the same amount of time. Newcastle came 2nd so many times. Spurs are part of the big 6. Are they apart of it because they win things or because they compete? The answer is simple. If Mike Ashley never took over and Newcastle were doing what they were before him this entire time there would never have been a big 6 but a big 7. From the same stand point you're trying to make Spurs don't belong either as they've won nothing compared to Everton or Villa and neither have Man City. For overall trophies it pretty much goes. Liverpool/Man U > Arsenal Villa/Everton > Everyone else.

Being 'big' and having a great history doesn't mean Jack, being big wont keep them in the league.. great history, bleak future

It’s ridiculous that this is even a question, check the trophy cabinets, check the time without winning a trophy, check premier league status over the years. Everton are unrivalled. Bigger fan base also and that’s even with sharing a city with Liverpool, Newcastle are a one city club and still have less fans.

city need 100+ years of history before theyre bigger than united. united won the treble the year after city went down to the third tier of english football.
