Something i have thought about long before this incident occurred is; What do you do when an officer wrongfully assaults you? You just take it and hope they don't go far enough to kill you? Do you defend yourself and get charged with assaulting a peace officer/get shot? There's nothing a citizen can do to rectify a wrongful assault from a police officer. I'm not even going to say i'm arguing that for this case (Which even in the edited video the police sent out to make themselves look good still shows that the cop grabbed him by the shirt). It always amuses me that avid 2nd amendment people (which includes myself) say "i have these guns so the government doesn't become tyrannical" seem to not mind at all if the government just sends out cops instead of knocking on your door themselves. "Just comply, and there won't be any issues!" But what happens when that's no longer enough? A cop comes up, asks for ID, it's not a stop and ID state, i refuse because i don't want that interaction on my record and i've done nothing wrong, cop gets irritated, i refuse to ID again because i'm not legally obligated too, and now were on the ground and im in handcuffs being charged with failure to ID when Failure to ID is a secondary charge. Should i comply and show them ID when i've done nothing wrong? How about let them search my car when i know theres nothing in it? (even though we've seen plenty of cases where cops have planted to make the arrest, and forgot they have body cameras). How about come into my home anytime they feel like it with no warrant or reason to come into my home? How about surrender my first amendment beacuse a cop told me to be quiet? How about let them seize my firearms because even though i've done nothing wrong with them, they don't want the possibility of it doing wrong? Sound familiar? You gotta have some stopping point, because they don't. I'm not saying all cops are bad at all, but you can't be on the cops side everytime. "Thats only a snippet of the video! You don't know what happened before!" You're right. And that can work both ways, for the cop and the civilian. I don't dislike individuals that are cops, i dislike any position of power that can basically make you invincible to a civilian and prevent you from facing consequences for your actions. That goes for Politicians, Cops, any organization that investigates themselves, or is bailed out everytime there is wrong doing.
