I’m loving these Smiths reactions. Always nice to catch a soulmate out there in this goddamn cold. I’m not the tiniest bit religous but BLESS YOU, friend!! 💙🥂

You need to see their 1984 live performance on the legendary UK music TV show called ‘The Tube’. They do 3 songs…Barbarism Begins at Home is on there…the BEST !

I went as Morrissey one year for Halloween. Just like that, the shirt open, glasses, flowers, hair, the whole thing.

The title is a play on words of a song by Morrissey's great heroine Sandie Shaw "Heavens Knows I'm Missing Him Now"

The stage presence of the smiths musicans was just awesome. Sometimes on a morrissey or Johnny marr concert the magic flashes up again. They are all genius musicians! (RIP Andy). Thanks for posting the Smiths once again Lauren👍

People who haven't watched concert footage of the Smiths or Moz really don't understand the power of these guys.

Even though you keep snubbing Johnny, when you say you dig their whole vibe, I'm with you girl, Smithsonian, 1983.

"Well I Wonder " it must be .This is The SMITHS song of such etheral force its in same standing as Beatles "Eleanor Rigby " The simple plain Lyrics have such powerful emotional force couple with deep melancholy of Morriseys vocal and there is that you love so much. Musically the arrangement has most haunting vibe. Its a most amazing piece of art.

A show in Essen, Germany, I believe. I've got a VHS tape from a gig in Derby, -83 or -84 with a proper stage invasion. Their hard core fan base grew very fast. You are my hero for posting.

Personally the Derby Assembly rooms concert is my fave live performance from the Smiths it shows what a great live band they were. It is on KZbin so should be easy for the young lady to react to it

Went to see The Smiths in 86 as a first date in Wales. Someone threw a drink over Morrissey after 10 mins, and he refused to come back on .... date went well tho lol. Sad day when they split. Yes back in those days there was no gap between crowd and stage at smaller venues. so when grunge come along just a year or so later stagediving was a big thing. Good times! yes, there were crushes (not just due to stagediving) but also down to overcrowding at the front and at venues in general. I remember some people sadly died at some festivals (like Roskilde in Denmark I think when Pearl jam were playing) and gradually policies changed from then on as far as my memory serves. were talking 30 years ago now.

I love that you found the Smiths, I came across them around the same time I found The Violent Femmes. I think there was a mix album in the early 80s that included This Charming Man - The Smiths and Add it Up - The Violent Femmes, best guess it was 1984, my second year in the Australian Army.

Check out the multiple encores at the end of this show, you'll love seeing them backstage and Moz interacting with the crowd before kicking into renditions of Hand in Glove and Barbarism Begins at Home. All of their live videos are fantastic, the entire Rockpalast show being one of my favorites.

I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't catch or comment on one of the classic Smiths-lines: "What she asked of me / At the end of the day / Caligula would have blushed ..." But on the other hand I really like that you just embrace their early live stuff.
