Careful, they're actually pretty dangerous fish. I've heard a few have been known to grab divers and try (unsuccessfully) to eat em.

my granddad was friends with one back in the 80s. He told me he'd go beat on the side of this sunken ship and a few minutes later she'd come out and swim around with them. They'd always spear a few fish and feed her. The one picture they took of her is insane. She was friggen H U G E

I'd not let humans touch the fishes scales because it brakes the slime surface some fish have to protect themselves against parasites and bacteria

It wants a belly rub. Had one following me while snorkeling in the Red Sea. It came up to me and turned over for a belly rub. I was shocked! He/she enjoyed the massage!

Probably a he, groupers of this size are usually male. Not because males get bigger, but because big groupers become males.

They seem to be pretty placid with humans. I was snorkelling on the great barrier reef and one just appeared out of nowhere not more than 2 foot away from my face looking straight at me. Huge thing. I had no idea about groupers back then. Didn't freak me out too much. I tried to grab my waterproof camera but by the time I got it to my eye it was gone

Some of them weight 400 lbs. That’s around 180 kilograms. Forget that they hunt lion fish, they’re almost the weight of ACTUAL LIONS. Quite intimidating fish. Good thing that they don’t hunt humans, they eat things that they can swallow whole.

That yellow fishes seems to try swimming synchronously with the grouper. They are a beautiful arrangement together.

This is such an incredible thing to see. Even though it's not the same kind of big fish as the grouper I remember a very curious Humphead Maori Wrasse coming right up to me at a zoo/aquarium in Cairns and just looking at me I even got it on film. The larger fish seem to be the more intelligent ones.

What magnificent creatures of the sea and I defy anyone who says this wonderful fish is without a brain. The very way it looks at these ‘other’ strange creatures in its domain and it’s clear curiosity, plus it’s eyes and body language tells me it’s sizing everything and everyone up.

You can see how beautiful and friendly they are, but i feel sorry for them when the spearfish diving killed them. when they did the same thing like i just saw in this picture trying to come up to meet the human to be friends.

Animals on land often have a fear of humans because of long experience with humans (aka generational trauma) and that we stand on our hind legs so we look a lot bigger. Of course this doesn’t apply to aquatic environments.

Now that is pretty amazing, if only it could talk. Note toward the end of the video, the Grouper lightly rolls to the side, a sign of trust and often an invitation to 'play' a sign shared by many animal groups.
