I’m only 16 years old and I’m into this type of music. Heavy D was one of my parents favorite rappers and I can see why. He was a big dude who was extremely light on his feet and plus made it cool to be a guy his size. Plus he was extremely talented. He can rap, dance, act, sing and produce. And in my opinion Heavy D was one of many rap sex symbols alongside LL Cool J and Big Daddy Kane. RIP to both Heavy D and Trouble T-Roy

Yeah, I agree to a certain extent. Certainly rap music has taken a really negative and drastic turn, quite frankly in the entertaining music aspect, with both meaningful and/or party jams. I seem to think it all went very downhill somewhere between 2005-2010ish. Everything before that was decent, with rap and r&b still getting some decent realistic and relatable lyrics. Gangsta rap really came out and dominated the scene but has come to a point where it is the same thing over and over from the same sounding rappers with similar lyrics, just like country has done over the last 10 years. I liked the direction country went in with the pop country genre but it is getting to a point where the repetitive sounds and regurgitated lyrics are hand in hand with most rap nowadays. Anyway, enough of my “old head” rant. I would love to hear some new music be ground breaking as this was back in the day. Maybe we’ll start to get that revolutionary sound again sometime soon and the trend will take off positively in the beginning on the 2020’s. We’ll see… Optimism is contagious so I hope to spread some positive vibes your way! Have a good one!!

See, now this was and still IS music. Clean lyrics, nice beat, danceable. No twerking and half naked women, and we still looked good! Men didn't have their pants hanging to their ankles with a blunt in both hands and in their mouth, and they actually looked good, like men. No talk about slinging and banging. This is when you could actually go to house parties, or hang out, and not have to fight or dodge bullets. I miss those days of my child hood. Yeah, and I still jam this when I get ready. RIP Heavy D, Trouble T.

This is to the younger generation. You have no idea how much fun it was during this time period. Hip hop was fun. The rapper's then did it for the love of it, not the money and it showed. We would go to a different club 7 days a week at times. Baltimore, DC. Philly, NY, NJ. We were everywhere. You could go places you never been. Nobody bothered you. No gangs, no drugs, no guns. Everybody just had fun.

There are too many great Hip Hop Artists to put on this list. I think that the period from 1979 to 1993 was the Classic Period and the Golden Age Of Hip Hop.
