Certainly hope my gym gets a belt squat platform soon. Wesley needs to start his quad and ham workouts with hams. My advice: 1) GHR (warmup with bands), 2) belt squat, 3) reverse hyper, 4) hack squat, 5) leg curl, 6) reverse lunge, step up, or front foot elevated smith split squat.

Wesley I have seen a lot of people complaining that your hams are weak cuz you don't do deadlifts. What your thoughts in that? Btw you should do a isolated prior to stiff-leg deadlifts to real destroy the hams with very less weight.
@philsburydoboy5 жыл бұрын
Deadlifts are king for hamstrings
@balintkiss22735 жыл бұрын
Deadlift has nothing to do with hamstrings , the first part of the movement is kinda like a legpress , but the movement itself is not for hamstring mass. Stiff legged deadlifts are way too dangerous , and the benefit risk ratio is not rewarding.
@azzcoopz32705 жыл бұрын
He’s doing Romanian deadlifts with more weight than most people can deadlift normally
@philsburydoboy5 жыл бұрын
@@azzcoopz3270 that is about 225 lbs, assuming the bar weighs the same at the handles as a standard bar. 225 is a warmup deadlift for most people who have been training hard, but naturally for a few years. Not to mention the weight is about 2/3 of the way across the lever, so he is really lifting about 1/3 less than what is loaded. The issue isn't with the weight anyway, it is with the size. Regular deadlifts tend to leave my hamstrings much more sore than RDLs, despite the faster fatigue and better mental connection that I get with RDLs. I assume this is the case for most people, but I might be wrong.
@philsburydoboy5 жыл бұрын
@@balintkiss2273 "Benefit risk ratio" (lol I know what podcast you watch) only applies when trying to lift heavy enough to compromise your form and risk injury. Deadlift has everything to do with hamstrings. If you don't think so, answer why hamstrings are much more commonly torn than quads on the exercise, despite marginally higher quadricep activation? They are heavily, eccentrically loaded through the concentric phase of a deadlift. Eccentric movements are well known to be responsible for muscle growth than concentric. I observe that people generally neglect the eccentric phase for the quadriceps and glutes in a deadlift, quickly letting the bar go to the ground. As a result hamstrings typically fail first, having done almost entirely eccentric exercise, which leads to more growth.

Wesley what are your thoughts on Abductor machine? It really helps to bring out the inner thighs. Shawn Rhoden's quads are little smaller than Phil Heat's, but because Shawn has great inner thighs it creates an illusion of him having bigger quads than Phil's.

Steve Laureus replied to a comment on a Instagram claiming that if you were 5 to 8 pounds drier through conditioning in Arnold Classics you could have made top 5 very easily. What your take on this?
@philsburydoboy5 жыл бұрын
@NettiBongo pretty sure his quad sweep is actually relatively good. His hamstrings are really the weak part of his legs. They are why he has a thigh gap compared to the other guys, and why he can't widen his stance to show off his quads.

@VintageGenetics5 жыл бұрын
He's just as strong in the torn arm compared to the regular arm. It's weird but a part of his tricep has 'taken over' some function of the bicep (he didn't have surgery so the body naturally compensated). So now his tricep is a bit weaker, but it's getting fixed by manual therapy.
