Hi Chris, I looked at all the options available to me for the commute home and I had quite a few to choose from. The weather looked pretty bad to the north and for reasons that I cannot explain. I headed home this way. It's got nothing to do with making a KZbin video either. I just like the challenge. This is proper winter cycling in the UK

Legendary cyclist 🤭I'm just a regular cyclist but nevertheless, thank you my friend. It was grim in places but that is all part of the fun. I could have commuted home via Bury and avoided the snow, but oh no...I went for the adventure ...👌

I had to get home from work and it certainly came down on this route. I was always told as a 16 year old apprentice by my old foreman who had served in WW2, "What do you do when your boots let water in " I never really got it as I was too young to know otherwise, but what you do is, you crack on regardless and worry about things later 😉

Another 200 miles completed for the week by the time I got home tonight on the commute. It's too cold to have a pint outside the Red Lion ! And yes, I like the Schwalbes, they are bloody heavy though but seem to be bomb proof

I used to mountain bike all over the my local hills Marco and still have my full susser but the lure of lightweight carbon and a clean chain took me back to where it all started as schoolboy rider and a Roadie . The bike I use in winter is a 2009 Kona Kula hard tail. I converted it to a hybrid 1x11 and it is very comfy to ride - especially with some of the poor road surfaces we have in the UK 👍

A few years ago - when I was renovating a house over in Rawtenstall - I used to regularly pass a bloke commuting by bike from Tod up Bacup Road through snow. Legends (or mad lads) both of you.

Hi Simon, I did the same loop this evening 41 miles this time and I should have filmed the ride in to work. None of the roads had been gritted and it was treacherous. I was definitely riding on ice 6am ❄️☃️🚲

I was worried but I threw some caution to the wind pal. I've ridden over this way in winter when the freezing rain hit. Now that is an experience and a half. It looks like a wet surface but there is a layer of ice always emerging and it looks like glass.

Yes I agree, it's the lesser of two evils. The bike feels a lot heavier with the Schwalbes on and it doesn't pick up speed as much but riding in the dark and not being able to see all the potholes, they have served me well so far.

They call it the Poggy loop because a rider in the local area called John Pogson does it quite a lot. I mix it up Terry. Probably twice a week. I have commutes over Holcombe, Edgworth, Ramsbottom and Bury. Or I might do a Manchester Oldham route.

It was full of risks and on the daft side of Mad but I cycle to work every day and kind of become used to the seasons as they change. If it gets really bad, I will let cars pass and ride when the road is not as busy or even go on the pavement to avoid causing issues.
