Here's a tip for sealing plastic "PVC" pipe/fitting leaks. Approximately 20 + years ago I had a glue joint fail in my PVC plastic air line in my shop. It was in a difficult area to access and I really did not want to cut the fitting out and replace it. In a "Hail Mary" move I used my shop vacuum to introduce a vacuum in the pipe. I then put some PVC glue around the fitting and let it suck into the fitting. I then used a regular old hose clamp to clamp around the leaking fitting. After letting it sit overnight to cure the glue I turned on the air system and it has been holding 160 PSI ever since then.

I help out at a small camp in the mountains of Colorado. The water system was designed by a bunch of Ranchers 60 years ago, and over the years dozens of different volunteers have worked on it. The camp is about 1:30 round trip to get to a hardware store so, frequently, creative connections were cobbled together to "fix" a problem with a "promise" to bring the right parts up next time he came 😂.

At some point the owner of the Hot Springs may want to install a all new CPVC ChlorFIT pipe line. It is rated for chemicals and 200 degrees at all times, it is expensive but it is not going to break down due to the temperature or the chemicals in the water. Just a thought.

I would recommend a gate valve at the intake, make filling the line easier. Or alternatively leave the end open and fit a side channel air compressor/ vacuum at the highest point in the syphon. Make a water seperator chamber to not suck water into the air pump. Then the water can be sucked into the pipe removing all the air. No risk of gate valves rusting in the pool with a vacuum system.
@felixjames5732
@felixjames5732 8 ай бұрын
This is the best idea I’ve seen in the comments. You’d probably need a valve at the bottom and run water in to the top to fill most of the line. Then turn on the vacuum.

Interesting! Can not wait to see how it goes tomarrow! * after getting all the leaks fixed and install new 8 inch back up line if you put a tank 350 gallon or more on a platform and a tee with cutoffs so you could isolate either line you could then use the water in the tank ( and you could even pressureize the tank ) but leave the valve to tank closed , and if he ever has another problem , he could pressurize the tank open valves and use water in tank on 6-10 foot platform to reprime the system after fixing problem or when switching to new 8 inch back up line you mentioned

Thumbs this up so he see this… Pond needs to be dug out with a long reach excavator, all the water lines needs to be re-placed and installed with gate valves. Everything should be HDPE plastic pipe for rust resistance with brass valves. The system should at least have 3 clean outs 1 near at each end and 1 in the middle. So cleaning out the pipe with ease. 8” pipe will have to much pressure and volume of water… maximum I would use is a 6” HDPE pipe. IF & When the pond starts to leak threw the ground you will need bentonite chips. The chips looks like wood chips and will swell up and clog leaks. That’s what we do for pond leaks.

Just quick couple things. The PVC O ring fittings are designed to seal under pressure and can leak when under vacuum especially when the seals are old and cracked. If theres a rubber seal for a bell and spigot you will never need glue. You need pipe lube to slip the pipe through the rubber. You need to bevel the end of the “spigot” end of the pipe with a grinder or chop saw to easily get the pipe started passed the rubber. Typically you would use a digging bar to stab the two pipes together when you’re dealing with rubber gasket joints

As an x plumber I have never seen a push fitting glued. But on the other hand the O ring seal’s because of water pressure. So if you a siphoning than there isn’t enough pressure to keep the O ring from loosening the seal. I think you should have updated the entire line. With a continuous 300 feet of pipe without connection. But if it works you’ll have time to come up with a better plan.

Looks like that guy from “ Flex -seal “ needs to get his ass up there with a couple cases of cans to help Dave & crew 😏😆😉. Old PVC pipes are a pain in the butt. I had to help a guy replace a “ Pond pump “ on his property last year , and it was a real bitch to remove from the intake pipe, swap it out for new one , and get everything back in place , clamped properly & then make all electrical connections ( his electrical box looked like a snake pit full of old crusty wiring ) and get it all working again just so he could impress his family & guests for a weekend showing off his “ Waterfall “ in his backyard pond for some family function . Hopefully You guys have the same great success here in future video. 😎👍. Thanks Dave Sparks & crew for ALL YOU DO .
