have a pair of these bad boys. they are fenomenal. And I'm agree, u don't a sub for them. They are very punchy but still produce clean and clear sound. Dire Straits sounds phenomenal through them

Just curious if they would sound as good as the 700 towers when paired with a sub. My room is 12X15ft.

they will sound better with good sub than 700s. In many times 2.1 more preferrable choice than mid-price tower speakers

These provide far better sound than the Klipsch. I owned the Rp-160m before these. The Heco are better balanced with better bass, lush midrange, and silky smooth treble. The Klipsch sound thin and harsh in comparison.

Bookshelf speakers are supposed to be versatile. It's perfectly fine testing them in one of the main ways they're supposed to be placed.
