This was a critical moment in the BB universe. Had Hector not insisted Nacho's father be his mule, Nacho would never have swapped out the pills, and Hector would not have had his stroke and ended up in his condition. Without the stroke, things with Tuco would have gone very differently, and (assuming he even made it that far) Walt would not have been able to use Hector to kill Gus.

@KitchensAreHot this. Also, Gus is far more clever than any of his competition and would likely win the war with ease. I just now realized that the guy Tuco knifed was the “Mexican national in ‘03” Hank talked about in S2E2 of BB. I can’t believe this show is so good that it not only uses its throwaway lines to build the narrative for later on (like the horse and cactus statue at Mesa Verde) but it literally takes throwaway lines from its preceding show and gives THEM an important purpose. AND it somehow isn’t forced! To the point that it took me until now to make this connection!

I know it's crazy but I sometimes feel like Nacho should have kept his alliance with the Salamanca family. For as cold-blooded and ruthless as they are they all seemed to have a unique type of admiration for him. Like right here Hector seems to be legitimately upset when Nacho tells him how they put a gun to his head. The Salamanca Twins save Nacho's life and even give their own blood through a transfusion. Lalo treated him very well and went outta his way to get Nacho promoted. And it all started with Tuco. I got the impression they were childhood friends. I could be way off though. He seemed to be the voice of reason for Tuco .

Tbh I think nacho has the most chance of survival out of all the new characters. Lalos fate is already sealed. Otherwise we'd have a plot hole. Kim Wexler is most likely gonna meet her demise. Considering the fact he wants out. So he could still be alive and have an reasonable explanation for not being breaking bad which is that he retired from the business. However this is wishful thinking

What's even worse to think about is that in the moments right before Hector suffers a stroke, Don Eladio forced all his men working in the south to switch to the Chicken Trucks as their main way to transport their product over the border Meaning that Hector might have been forced to give up of the upholstery place and Nacho wouldn't have sunk and drowned in the criminal underworld.

The biggest weaknesses of the true villains in this show like Hector and Fring is the fact that the believe keeping power means threatening families of people they are trying to control. Both backfired massively which ended in both of their demises. Nacho took Hector out of the business by effectively making him a vegetable and Walt blew up Gus (and Hector). The lesson here being that a man who has nothing to lose is the most dangerous man.
