Hector is the biggest single tragedy of the whole story. Dude was a great fighter, loyal to his family, loyal to his country, and died in a fight that changed nothing. Could’ve won against anyone but Achilles, but his whimp brother put him in an impossible situation.

Great fight. Achilles later regrets killing him when Hector's father Priam sneaks into the Greek camp to ask him for Hector's body back. Priam lectured him on how petty he was for making things personal with Hector when this is war and people die as a cost. Everyone loses a father, son, brother, cousin, etc and Achilles was no exception, he also reminds Achilles of how Patroclus walked into his own death for tricking Hector into thinking he was Achilles. After all this Achilles, in tears, apologises to Hector's body privately and acknowledges him as a brother/friend.

I disagree. I believe it was more a gift to Priam. He willingly walked into the tent and kissed the hands of Achilles. Priam begged for his sons body and was so humble, Achilles granted it.

The story of Greeks during centuries proves their mentality. Last war was the 2nd World War of Greeks against 4 enemies: Italians with their ally Albanians & Germans with their allies Bulgarians. For those that haven't seen the movie first.....shame go watch it 2nd the "now you know who you are fighting" line is because the day before Achilles Cousin took his armor/weapons and pretended to be him even his men said he fought just like Achilles .The cousin took Achillles men into battle after he order them not to fight....thinking it was Achillies, Hector singled out the cousin duel him to the death and won but wasn't till he was dead that everyone even Achillie's own men realized it was the cousin and not him

In the story you must remember that Achilles is a Demi God. Hector is 100% mortal. Hector is so impressive because he is able to keep up with Achilles, and Achilles even says that Hector is one of the best if not THE best he ever fought. They fight in the Illiad for hours and what Hectors fatal flaw is that because he is human, he tires..
@richardrodriguez9448

Actually Achilles was never depicted as Demi God in the story. In the book he was rumored to be a Demi-God by some because of what he do but it was never confirmed that he was. It was actually debunk on the movie itself when a boy told Achilles that they say, he can't be killed. Achilles replied " I won't bother with a shield then would I"?

Agreed! (or at LEAST in the Top 5) The choreography is stellar! And makes me wonder (given how much Hollywood tends to spend on such things,) just how much of it was actual fighting style for the time period. I'm sure a good portion of it was "over the top for the camera" - Hollywood shlock. But I DO wonder if any of it was "legit", and if so, how much?

Two great warriors of the Trojan War. Hector knows that he can't destroy Achilles because he (Achilles) is protected by God. Achilles' mother dipped him in the River Styx when he was a toddler to make him invulnerable. The only part not wetted was Achilles' Heel. Hence, Achilles Heel is a metaphor for a Weak point.

A couple things: 1) this fight is the result of Hector killing a man named Patroclus. In the movie Patroclus is depicted as Achilles younger cousin. But scholars debate on wether he was Achilles cousin/brother. Most believe Patroclus was Achilles lover. 2) It was said after Achilles killed Hector he dragged his[Hectors] body around the city of Troy for 7-14 days screaming at the walls of how Hector was a coward and a failure, taunting all of Troy. (Hope you get to see this cool reaction!) P.S the OG audio is so much better. Doesn’t overpower the fight or take anything away.

Fact: Hector (Έκτωρ in Greek) was mortal, Achilles (Αχιλλέας) was immortal! When Achilles was a baby, his mother the Nereid Thètis (Θέτις), crabbed him from the left heel and baptised him in the waters of the River Styx. Every part of the Achilles’ body the waters touched became invulnerable except his left heel that it’s left dry! Achilles was a great warrior but was also invulnerable, that’s why no one could ever beat him! So, it was a little unfair for Hector! Later, when the armies of Agamemnon (Αγαμέμνων) and Menelaus (Μενέλαος) were inside the city of Troy (Τροία), Paris (Πάρης) Hector’s brother, killed Achilles by shooting an arrow in his left heel!

Some lines and acting was a little bad in moments in this film, but this fight scene was one of the best in duels of this Era setting.

Achilles and Hector were never meant to end up here. I wish they would’ve turned their swords on the Greeks. And maybe Paris’ punk ass.

'Hector is the most likable figure in the whole epic' lol you clearly never read the illiad hector killed wounded unarmed men, he is the one deciding to attack the acheans on their ground next to the ship, that is where achillies decided to sent patroklos and the mirmidones to counter attack and we know how that ended , hector after killing wounded unarmed patroklos, thought achilles was more easly to be killed being mourning his friend, instead achilles gose fury god mode hector panic and start running around the city, only when he thought deiophobos was with him he wanted to fight achilles 2vs1 , very noble and likable of him, achilles is the man hector is a dog burking at a lion

You also have to remember the Achilles was half god and indestructible except for his ankle after his mother 'Thetis' dipped in in the river styx as an infant. Wheras Hector is a mortal man. With all those advantages Achilles should have won in seconds but he didnt . Making Hector the better man and true hero

Achilles could have ended that fight as soon as it started. He wanted to toy with Hector, show him how hopelessly outmatched he was.

@@artoriosvii6801 Not quite, he even recognizes that Hector was the only mortal that could keep up with his speed, strength and agility. Both are master swordsmen and in terms of skill were almost equal, but Aquiles was half God. However in this more realistic depiction of the events, Aquilles was more skilled but Hector had a more intense defense. Aquilles knows this so he changes his strategy by going more defensive. That is a fact, so in that moment he took Hector more seriously. Hector got tired because of many factors, one them is that he tried every thing to land a hit but he knew that if he kept playing defensively he would get more static and Aquilles had the advantage in speed, so he chose to attack but cost him more stamina. Either way, he was going to die.

I don't know what music is playing in the clip you're watching, but thats not the original music from the scene. Its still an awesome scene to watch, but the original music was much grittier than this

This part of the movie irritated me..Hector legit thought he was killing Achilles. If anything, that was the fault of Achilles.

Why? Achillies literally had nothing to do with it. His cousin marched in to battle leading Achillies men without order or notice. Stole Achillies armour. His only task was to load the ship and prepare to sail home. Achillies told all of them to stand down and his idiot cousin refused the order.
