This guy at HEDD has given one of the most knowledgeable and helpful videos I've seen to date. This is the kind of engineer I want behind a speaker I buy. Wow, find more guys like this to interview please John! Or do a followup with him in the future. Outstanding content covered here.

I'm a proud HEDD type 05 owner (': Now I truly see the love, passion and hard work that wen't into these babies. Was worth every penny. And all the folks at HEDD audio are very nice. Mr Heinz and his son Frederik have something really special in HEDD audio and I hope to see them grow.

I've got a set of HEDD Type 05's for nearfield listening and absolutely love them! Added an Adam Sub7 to fill out the bottom end, so the system goes from 31Hz-50kHz with extreme speed and precision. With Hedd Lineariser and Sonarworks adding even more accuracy, they're a joy to listen to.

I waited a long time for mine to arrive due to corona. Was worth the wait. I actually emailed and asked if klaus was around in the 'factory' while the new batch was being made . i wanted him to sign them. i got an email back from his son apologising that he didnt see the email in time to make that happen. His son who i believe is ceo of the company. the fact he spent to the time to message me personally was hugely appreciated by me. Dont mess with the germans. engineers and attention to detail. noy cheap but good value. thank you klaus thank you Dr. Knopp

I just purchased the type 07 this morning. Just see this video now and I’m even more glad I did. I can’t wait to finally hear and use these monitors and I’m gonna ride with HEDD from now on.

How do you like them?

7:52 This is a great point. "Too much" accuracy can have a negative effect on the subjective experience of a speaker's musicality, and if the end result is dealing with music, then it needs to be taken into consideration. I have seen reviews bringing this point up in HEDD monitors, that they are not TOO clinical/analytical/dry sounding, so he did what he set out to.

Hi John, I call Heil Motion drivers *"Squeezers"* because they squeeze out the sound. Cheers, Joe CAA/JLTi PS: I heard the first pair of ESS Heil AMT when Roger Brooks of Pittwater Hi-Fi (then located in Chatswood) brought them in. I was working for HACO-Hagemeyer (Kingsford), JVC and Panasonic in those days. The year must have been 1973. PPS: Looks like a Clio MA-01 microphone 9:01 - tells me that he is using the Clio Audio Analyser for speakers and amplifiers FW-01 (I have) or FW-02.

A really very interesting interview with a lot of technical ideas and information. I'm interesting in speaker technology, during starting my engineer study in Brunswick. There has been a really nice HiFi manufactur, where I can see and test a lot of speakers and technologies, also all kind of crossovers. Fortunatelly the guy is also a professional in amps (he developed amps before at Restek) and that has been the time playing nice LPs (but CDs are already starting slowly). So I tested passive crossovers during my study and found a lot of problems, so I tested later active crossovers (mainly Linkwitz-Riley at that time) which is a big progress and advantage. So i heard a lot of different speakers, also at high end HiFi Studios in Hamburg and Brunswick with toal different technology like Corona Ion tweeters, which are having a sparkling noise, if there is no sound and are very expnsive. So I hope to have the chance to hear a HEDD speaker and find out, if this fine kind of manufactured art is really a live (time) experience with a neutral perfect sound. Or in other words, the speaker, which you can't hear. My last rally astonishing experience has been an old HiFi setup, with an old Maihak valve amp with the old known BBC speakers. Jazz music with clear voice and fast bass attacks - wow. So old equipment can have a very wonderfull sound as well! So thanks a lot!

Another excellent Darko video. When you return to HEDD in 2019 please get Klaus Heinz to help make two videos. One as planned about HEDD's new factory and a second about the ESS Transar speakers seen in this video.

Hi All, well i went on a journey of discovery. I wasn’t aware of HEDD Audio but used to own the Adam a7x’s. I was using a desktop setup having sold my studio. More recently because of lock down I was looking to replace my Genelec 8020d with a speaker with more bottom end, retaining a small foot print, good clear transparent and flat. I looked at all of them and then the Hedd type 05 popped into my radar. I did some research and because of the pedigree decided to go for it. Question is am I happy? Let me tell you if you need a small speaker for your setup look no further than the Hedd type 105. This is one of the best sounding and all round 5” speaker i have ever had the pleasure of using. It’s bring the quality to a level that i can afford. Awesome speakers. You can see the passion in the brand ans when you team passion, creativeness and knowledge it’s a killer combination. Thank you Hedd for building these. I posed myself a challenge and they came through.

I just tested the full range of HEDD monitors at the Inter-BEE show in Japan last week, and they told me how “bad” my mixes actually were! I don’t think I have ever come across a more accurate and revealing monitor at any price point. The entire line was great, but the 20s and the 30s were beyond reproach!

I bought Hedd mk2 07, the serial numbers are 07-102987 & 07-102986. Unfortunately, both of them went broken successively in 8 months! What a pity! And when I contact Hedd, they asked me to contact the retailor. They said they are just going to fix it for me, and both problems are some kind of a chip-burned thing,they are going to change the chip and the dsp board and there's no guarantee in future risk. I really liked the sound 07mk2 produces. But now, I think I'll just change my opinion on Hedd. Maybe Adam's new series is a good choice. 'Cause this was certainly a product line issue, not my fault, and they just let me take all the risk!

I am interested to know how you get the digital signal to these active/powered speakers. The HEDD website has a section on audio-over IP that I would like to know more about. It seems an elegantly simple solution to get the digital signal directly to the speaker without the cables and other noisy digital/electronic bits.

If you have a tweeter that moves faster and in a non linear way compared to the woofer, wouldn't that make them slightly out of phase with each other? Especially in the crossover zone? Because you have 2 sources (AMT tweeter & piston woofer) and producing an output in a different way. Like 2 tennis ball launchers with one running slightly faster than the other. Is there some compensation being used for this?

Only recently I heard and really appreciated the speed and delicate presentation of an amt.... I have owned silk, ceramic and metal dome tweeters before.... But it just may be that next time around I consider a a design using an amt..... No wonder these things can be costly... Seemed like quite a labour intensive production method there.

If the human ear only hears up to 20kHz, what is the purpose of having a tweeter that goes up to 50kHz?
@andrasschmauzer68164 жыл бұрын
cun7us, you can’t hear above 20khz directly but lower and upper frequencies interfere with each other and you can hear the results...for example

I wonder what are the speakers at 1:18.
@normalman66865 жыл бұрын
That speaker at 1:18 and reappearing thru the video behind Klaus Heinz is the ESS Transar. Very rare it was Dr. Heil's attempt to apply the squeezing push pull concept of the AMT tweeter to the midrange and bass bandwidths. The square white rectangles mounted horizontally are the diaphragms which are connected by rods to a magnet + voice coil at the bottom of the panel. They operate as a dipole like the large ESS AMTs which you see at the top of the Transar providing the top midrange and treble coverage. In the video Klaus' pair is shown one with grill on and the other with grill removed. The full system also featured a subwoofer for the lowest bass. Introduced near the end of ESS's first and greatest commercial success production was very limited so they are very rare in 2018.
