Hi. Great video!! Thank you for your content!! I’m getting close to needing a 4 wheel brake job on my ‘22 TLX Type S , so I was wondering if you have to put the rear brakes into maintenance mode??
@Heeltoe. Жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it! We did not put anything in any special mode, no.

Thanks for making these videos! I'm replacing all 4 rotors and front brake pads this weekend B) Wish I had some newer rear pads too, but I'll grab em another time.

Fun update: the guy who installed them didn't bolt the brake hardline back in, resulting in my brakes failing 2 weeks later as I exited the turnpike at top speed and leaking brake fluid everywhere. Fortunately me and the Type S survived. Fun times.

The rear brake components look too similar to the 2.0 Honda Accord if they are not the same, I wonder.

Thank you so much for your content and sharing with the community @Heeltoe I want to undertake this job myself, but my biggest concern is not messing up with the electronic brake. Would you be able to share with us information if we need to set the car to maintenance mode or anything about not ruining the electronic braking system? Thank you very much again!
@Heeltoe.2 ай бұрын
We did not put the car in maintenance mode, have done this job numerous times and have not had issues! I can't see what compressing the piston has to do with the electronic parking brake at all, anyway.

thanks for the video - very surprised the caliper rods do NOT take any high temp grease! why is this?
@Heeltoe. Жыл бұрын
Caliper rods?
@Kris0S Жыл бұрын
I guess the true term would be caliper pin. There are two that the outer part of caliper rides on to force both calipers together on to the rotor. I noticed on my rears only, there is no grease. Fronts have the normal pins with high temp grease. Wondering why the change in design

Impact screwdriver works every time for me over the past 28 years. You just don’t know how to use a impact screwdriver.
@Heeltoe.3 ай бұрын
Gee, I didn't realize it was that complicated. Really though, This method is 100% successful even when the screws strip. You can't tell me that you never stripped a screw here.

DO NOT FOLLOW THIS GUYS ADVICE IN ANYWAY SHAPE OR FORM - READ HERE: "I like to show off my tools sometimes", calls himself an automotive channel, but he uses a air hammer chisel to take out a rotor screw and a wood working vise to compress the piston. Guys, don't follow this guys advice, buy the RIGHT tools for the job and save yourself time and money. This is not a guy that knows how to work on new Hondas, beware! The reason why he's cranking so hard on the rear caliper to compress it is because he's on the verge of breaking the rear electronic E-brake assembly, which has to be retracted electronically before staring the job. He did the job improperly by not putting the rear e brake in maintenance mode. According to the HONDA SERVICE MANUAL (which is typical on MANY newer hondas) the rear ebrake must be put in Maintenance mode with a scan tool before removing the caliper. The caliper piston should EASILY retratct back into the caliper. You can hear the rear e brake assembly clicking under undue stress on the plastic components, and he's 100% struggling to do this, because it's 100% wrong - and notice how he says you have to "spin it", then says "watch it retract, but it's not really retracting THEN he begins to spin it, which you don't, he's doing the job completely wrong and is on the verge of breaking the whole unit with so much pressure. There is a manual method to do this too away from the scan tool, and he obviously doesn't know this. FROM THE SERVICE MANUAL: Removal Enter MAINTENANCE MODE as follows. -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode. -2. Select the following menu buttons on the HDS screen in sequence. ABS/VSA (System Selection Menu) ADJUSTMENT BRAKE PAD MAINTENANCE MODE ENTER BRAKE PAD MAINTENANCE MODE -3. Make sure TRANSITION TO PAD EXCHANGE MODE HAS BEEN COMPLETED appears on the screen. -4. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. Finish MAINTENANCE MODE as follows. -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode. -2. Select the following menu buttons on the HDS screen in sequence. ABS/VSA (System Selection Menu) ADJUSTMENT BRAKE PAD MAINTENANCE MODE BACK TO NORMAL MODE -3. Make sure THIS FUNCTION PROCEDURE IS FINISHED is displayed on the screen, then press the enter button. -4. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
