She puts on a clinic. She doesn't have a "usual" style, doing some great jazz stuff, and pop, with so many expertly used and performed techniques it's truly impressive. For some of her jazz work, look up the videos with Jeff Goldblum.

@@stever3145 They were on tour in Europe when this was done. They had just finished an eight night run and had a "day off" so of course they recorded three videos instead, including their excellent take on Meagan Trainor's "All About That Bass". This was the last of the three and the firs take of it. Haley was supposedly not completely happy with it and wanted to do it over but Scott convinced her that this wasn't to be improved upon and to let it go. So yes, One Take it was.

"She did some scatting" It is said, Haley's Dad, Harry, a Chicago Blues guitarist, would Scat to Haley when she was a baby and she would scat back to him before she could talk. She didn't start studying Jazz (Her family are rockers, Mom and Dad together in a band for 40+ years) until high school when she auditioned to be the first singer in her high school Jazz band. They won the opportunity to sing at a festival in Umbria, Italy w/ Haley as their vocalist. Haley often scats in performances even on rock songs. One of my all time favorite performances w/ scatting I've seen was Haley's cover of Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home", but Steve Winwood's Traffic version. Who inserts a 30 second scat into the middle of a classic rock song? Haley Reinhart, that's who.... enjoy kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJfKhXuMfNmdoKM PS my channel has 10 years worth of live Haley performances if you have the thought to go down that rabbit hole, cheers.

Haley has a natural rasp in her speaking voice, so that grit in her singing voice isn't forced. She said she had a 'froggy' voice as a child, and a tomboy, so she's had quite a 'glow up'. A 'hippie chick', flower child, check out some of her interviews to hear the rasp. 3 of her 4 albums are full of originals songs with one 60's cover album dedicated to the musicians who inspired her parents. That album, "What's That Sound" was recorded at Sunset Sound on analogue tape, using some of the engineers who worked on the original songs she covered, and flew her parents up to provide background vocals and guitar leads. The Zombies, Jefferson Airplane, Nancy Sinatra and the Turtles have all reached out to thank Haley for bringing their music to a new generation, respectively ("Time of the Season", "White Rabbit", "These Boots are Made for Walking", and "You Showed Me'). Not necessary to react to, but I recommend Haley's 2nd ("Better") and most recent albums ("Lo-Fi Soul"), if you want to get a sense of Haley's original music, they are my favorites of Haley's four.

Under rated may not be the right words.I just think she rather do things her way instead of being with a huge label to get marketed and TV and radio air time. She has full control for the most part of her songs and career and seems to like it that way. Anyone who hears her knows how good she is and that she is on a level with all the greats.

To answer your last question, Scott Bradlee the arranger and band leader has done most of his hundreds of videos as one camera one take. What you see is what was done. And why haven't you heard more about Haley? After her initial album release that Interscope records did nothing to promote, she's gone independent for her last three albums. Randy Jackson, a judge on Am. Idol famously told her "Pick a Lane" which she has refused to do (This was said to her when she choose to cover Blue by LeAnn Rhimes to show off her yodeling skills.) She covers from jazz to 60s rock, to 59s Elvis. Pile on that with voice acting (F. is for Family) and movie acting (We Can Be Heroes) and she's done a lot in the past ten years. One of my top five or six female vocalists over the last 5 decades (not saying "best" but personally appealing). Appreciate your reaction. While I always enjoy watching people react to her, I'd just as soon you sample her catalog just for you own enjoyment. Check out her wiki if you want to know more of her trip. Thanks.

Love that :) And Haley's been one of those vocalists I know of, but haven't really *heard* (until now) if that makes sense. What I already knew was from your comments, and from some cover clips I've seen in the past :) I'll for sure check out her catalog. If you have tips on what to save for future reactions so I don't spoil anything, that's greatly appreciated too :) Thank you for watching!

Well, let's get the stories straight, okay. Interscope did not intentionally not promote Haley's first album, which had garnered rave reviews all across America as being the best debut album ever released by a former American Idol. What happened at the same time Haley's album was being released is Interscope had a severe cash flow problem caused by former CEO, Jimmy Iovene, leaving Interscope with his millions of dollars to go take over Apple Music. Which subsequently caused Interscope at the time to release 65 music artists all at one time with Haley being one of those 65. However, because Interscope could not fulfill the terms of their contract with Haley, they did at least give their rights to her music to her and in which Haley then used subsequently to pay her bills for the next several years living in LA. Meanwhile, on American Idol, Randy Jackson was not Haley's friend. As he had been commissioned by the show's producers to intentionally undermine and sabotage Haley's performances to try to get her off the show. So that's what all that "pick a lane" and "she doesn't know who she is" was all about. As what else could he criticize? Her performances most of the time were flawless. The producers saw Haley as being far too talented relative to the other contestants to remain on the show. Subsequently when Randy Jackson so miserably failed to get Haley off the show, the show's producers then enlisted JLO to join Randy Jackson in the sabotaging and then they began double teaming her and they still could not get Haley voted off the show. Nonetheless, because the show permitted almost "unlimited power-voting", as opposed to only "one vote per individual voting", which is the only way to host a fair and balanced music competition show, Haley was voted off the show in the third spot. In any event, had there been only "one vote per individual voting", Haley would have easily won American Idol in a landslide. As Haley was not only the best contestant by far in season 10 of American Idol but she is easily one of the top five contestants of all time on American Idol ever.

enjoyed your reaction hege... haley is one the greatest, most unique vocalist of our time. postmodern jukebox (or pmj) takes current popular songs and completely re-imagines them vintage (1920s to 1960s) in the music itself and style of the performances that actually take you back in time. they have a variety of good vocals but haley reinhart especially with postmodern jukebox is incredible. all the other haley/pmj ones are great also: "all about the bass", "habits", "black hole sun", "mad world", "seven nations army", "oops i did it again", "lovefool" and the very recent "don't speak". i think what is so phenomenal about haley is not just her amazing silk to sandpaper voice but also her character and soul that she puts into the performances. even when she uses very little of her unique vocal acrobatics, her pure raw soft voice is amazing like in the intro of "creep". you see this even more in her solo platinum cover of "can't help falling in love" for the extra gum commercial which is truly stunning and frequently described as what love sounds like here: (kzbin.info/www/bejne/laaxoXiYqZyqldE )

@@HegeOfficial Please don't confuse one take with one pass. All of PMJ recordings are done in one pass, with no break or editing the performance. To get the best possible outcome, sometimes you have to perform a few passes. In the case of this performance, Scott Bradlee decided to wrap the recording session after ONE pass. That's Haley's mastery and professionalism. Please note that on the same day, PMJ also recorded All About That Bass (PMJ's second most popular video) with Haley as one of the leading singers and Style with Haley as one of the backup singers. Talk about a singer with stamina. And to those who keep insisting Haley was sick, no singer would be able to perform in 2 top notch videos while sick. Not even Haley.

Hi Hege, New to your channel as this reaction caught my eye. I see you are a vocal coach and a Norwegian living in Spain so I thought if you had ever heard of The Warning? They are 3 very talented sisters from Mexico and sing rock. They are currently touring in America with Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless. These young sisters are aged 17, 20 and 22. Pau, (the drummer, 20) also takes lead vocals whilst drumming on a few songs but this particular recommendation is her version of Creep recorded on her mobile phone whilst playing piano. A cover in its rawest form. I wanted to share this video with you and your viewers as it is very beautiful and will give you goosebumps. Such a talented young lady. If you do not know this band, her older sister Dany is the usual vocalist and is also amazing. A great rock voice. For a band so young in age but have been around for 10 years is amazing with 40+ original songs. You need to check out Choke, ERROR, Animosity to name a few but I will leave a link for Pau covering Creep. The Warning have a dedicated fan base and will descend on your channel to check this out. Hopefully you will have time to do this reaction and be impressed to more of The Warning and fall in love with this band as I did. You have great instinct as to when to break for commentary without disrupting the flow of the content and the knowledge to back up what makes that performance so good. Most of us fans feel she is under rated as well. Maybe she should be a superstar, but she is doing just fine for herself and has avoided selling out to further her career.

I love Haley's voice. It's sultry, powerful and yes, underrated. She should have won American Idol, "back in the day". I've thought, for many years, as much as that show started out a few winners who became big names in the music industry, it also failed many others who were as good if not better, because imho, it became more about popularity than talent. There is also a video of Haley with PMJ where they cover No Doubt's song, "Don't Speak". I think you'll be impressed with that one, as well. I would like suggest another underrated singer. I didn't see any of her in your extensive list of videos and I so would love for you to check out this incredible young lady. Her name is Morissette Amon. She's from the Phillipines and she's now 26 years old. I "discovered" her here on YT about 4 years ago. Aside from being named, by her now massive amount of fans, "Asia's Phoenix", "The Mariah Carey of the Phillipines", "The Cover Queen". she is also a very humble person whose vocals are extraordinary!!. Not only does she LOVE to sing, she can sing any genre and make a song her very own!! She's a "story-teller" and she makes one feel as if she lives the words she's singing!! Her Broadway songs that she performed, at home during the Pandemic, are moving and breathtaking (Defying Gravity (Wicked), Home (The Wiz), Someone Like You (Jekyll & Hyde), Memory (Cats). Her range (5 octaves and 4 notes), her breath-control (15 seconds+), her vibrato, her runs are all jaw-dropping. She has performed many times on The Wish Bus. It's a real bus that is also a radio station and moves around the city. 99% of everything Morissette sings is live. She rarely, if ever, lip-syncs and doesn't want to. I am subscribing in the hope that I see a reaction or two (or more) from you, very soon, of her. You will NOT be disappointed!! I promise!! I'll get you started on a few of her videos: Akin Ka Na Lang (in her native language). Never Enough, And I Am Telling You, Rise Up (her Wish Bus version and an acapella version (again during the Pandemic) with a group called 3rd Avenue, Fly Like A Bird (Mariah Carey cover)....and the list just goes on and on. You could just about name any song and chances are, Morissette has covered it. She and boyfriend who is now her husband have also written and recorded their own songs..."Phoenix", "Love You Still" (Love You Still was written by her as a love song to her father. She and he are estranged due to personal conflicts. He didn't want her to move out of the home or marry Dave).

What I have heard is that this was arranged by PMJ with another singer in mind, but they asked Haley to take a shot at it, even though she was tired and also running a fever. She said OK, and they did this take. This was the first and only take. At the end, she asked if they should do it again, and the head guy for PMJ said, "No, that will do just fine".

They had already recorded and released "Creep" with another singer. The same is true of "All About That Bass." They recorded new versions of both on a day off during PMJ's first European tour. Those two videos are now the most viewed videos on PMJ's channel. Haley didn't have a fever. They had recorded AATB and another song that day as well. They had been touring. So Haley was hesitant because she felt like she might need to rest her voice. Scott Bradley said he thought they could do it in a a single take.

I loved your reaction and thanks for finally reacting to the great Haley Reinhart. Haley Reinhart is not only the best vocalist by far to have ever performed with Postmodern Jukebox, she is also the best thing that ever happened to them. As before Haley arrived, all PMJ ever performed in were tiny venues and cheap dives. Then after Haley arrived and quickly recorded several music videos that all went viral, suddenly PMJ found itself filling coliseums and arenas. Anyway, more chill bump inducing must react to music videos by Haley Reinhart are "Seven Nation Army", "Don't Speak", "Oops, I Did It Again", "Habits", "All About That Bass. You and your subscribers will love all of them, I promise. Meanwhile, the reason why Haley is so underrated is because for years Haley has been refusing to sign a record contract with a big major record label and even though they have been constantly trying to sign her up relentlessly for years. Hopefully, one day she will relent and decide to sign a record contract to share her gift and bring as much joy and happiness to the world as possible. Finally, thanks again for reacting to Haley Reinhart and keep them coming.

Thanks for the reaction. As you noticed, Haley has a lot techniques in her vocal toolbox. A lot of us also hear them and the musicality she uses them with--that PMJ video has an amazing ~106million views. Another two singers with all the tools on top of great natural gifts are Morgan James and Lara Fabian. I believe Dimash is a Lara Fabian fan and some parts of his style is reminiscent of hers. You might like her live performance of "You're Not From Here" Morgan James sang the Aerosmith's "Dream On" with a great Post Modern Jukebox arrangement

Haley has one of the best sets of vocal skills you will ever find! Although this performance shows off one technique after another, at the end you still have the impression that she saved more for another day! She did a number of performances with PMJ in 2015, before moving on to other things. Then, out of the blue, last summer Haley teamed up with PMJ again for this remarkable re-imagination of "Don't Speak" by No Doubt - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqnMaISrhJ5soa8 In addition to her vocal skills, Haley has a remarkable stage presence. She's one of those performers you can't take your eyes off of. ----------- Somewhere during your journey down the Haley Reinhart rabbit hole, you should experience the Wrigley's Extra Gum advertisement. The video is a touching two-minute love story and the audio track is Haley's angelic performance of Elvis Presley's iconic "Can't Help Falling in Love." The advertisement is here ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJbQpYSuZdJjidU ), a longer version mixing behind the scenes studio footage with the ad's video track is here ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/laaxoXiYqZyqldE ), and a 2020 Valentine's Day live performance of "Can't Help Falling in Love" is here ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmqVZX-Cfd2Gp80 ). This was done in one take at the end of a long day of recording and she had a cold on top of that. I don't think PMJ does much/any post processing and this was not pieced together from multiple sessions. Just one seriously talented lady singing her heart out.

Hi Hege! This is my first time watching one of your reactions and I was really impressed. Your analysis is insightful and you only pause when necessary to make a comment. This performance is one of my favorite PMJ (along with Morgan James' cover of Dream On by Aerosmith). I looked back to some of your earlier reactions to so many wonderful singer, but I was surprised that you have not reacted to 2 of my favorite female singers. First, and being Norwegian you probably know her, is Aurora. If you're not familiar with her, you should definitely check her out - she is a unique artist, singer/songwriter/producer. Many wonderful original songs as well as some pretty interesting covers such as Arianna Grande;s God is a Woman. The second singer is Floor Jansen - presently lead vocalist for Nightwish, a symphonic Metal band from Finland. I'd definitely suggest you watch some of their performances, but if Symphonic Metal is not your thing, there are several solo performances of Floor's that you definitely would enjoy. She does a cover of Lady Gaga's "Shallow' on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers. She also does a version of Phantom of the Opera on the same show together with Dutch singer Henk Poort. Anyway, I like your style and I'll subscribe in hopes that you may get around to Floor and Aurora someday soon.

I'm definitely looking forward to any Floor and Aurora reactions you do - I always enjoy watching someone discover them for the fist time, but it is doubly enjoyable when a singer and/or musician like yourself can add insight into their performances. By the way, I'm truly impressed with your command of English! I'm guessing you are also getting Spanish under your belt :). Great reaction! Haley with PMJ are a match made in heaven! She takes this classic song and gives it a jolt of sexiness and Marilyn Monroe vibes. A really good vocalist! On a side note, you have a couple of Angelina Jordan trolls here on your page. They are going by the name of NobelPrize and Alice. They have left many negative comments about her, going from one AJ reactor to another. The comments are some times really nasty and uncalled for. We know Angelina has been getting a lot of attention of late, but that's no reason to be so negative and try to take away people from her. You have the ability to block these reactors, but the choice is up to you. If you don't know who Angelina Jordan is, she is a 16 year old music prodigy from Norway who loves jazz music, but she has the ability to do other genres. She has many fans from around the world, but we do not go around Haley Reinhart reactor pages and post negative comments, that would be so wrong. Many of us like Haley and hopes she does well. Thank you for your time and keep up your support of Haley!

Underrated? Hmm. She is known primarily for covers, and that holds back her fame. That being said, she's rather famous still and her originals, though not necessarily chart toppers, and still great. She stays firmly in that middle tier of fame. I mean, goodness, there are a ton of world class singers who just never breath out. She has, but at a somewhat modest level. If she keeps pushing, I suspect she'll stumble on blockbuster levels of fame. Or she'll just slowly grow that fan base like some do. Who knows. Anyway. I hope she continues her relationship with PMJ. They were meant for each other. Heh.
