Thanks for the video. My tips: 1) Be ready for a life-lesson on improving your patience as you wait to get your form 4 approved. 2) Decide whether you are buying as an individual, a general gun trust, or a single shot trust. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. The single shot trust is great, but a drawback of these, is you have to have a copy of the trust and tax stamp for each item you take out. This is about 22 pages or so. This means if you are taking an SBR and a suppressor to the range, you will be toting about 44 pages of paper with you. (unless you print it to both sides of course) - A positive is the single shot does let you sell the can by putting the buyer as a responsible party trustee (they have to have prints, background check, etc) and then letting them take you off the trust. (or sell it with borrowers rights if you are selling to a friend) 3) If you are looking for maximum suppression of sound, stay away from the short K or SK type models. They look cool but they do not muffle the noise as well as a full size can. (Which I think most folks want maximum suppression?) - A modular one can give you both options in a single package. 4) Lots of people choose a trust because they think it makes it easier to pass the items to their heirs. It does, but you can also just spell it out in your will who you want the item to go to. The person can file a form 5 to transfer it to themself and the good 'ol ATF even waives the tax stamp for the heir.

Thank you for all the information. I'm a first time gun owner at 70 and am going to the gun shop today to start the suppressor buying process. I have already noticed after many years of loud rock music, that my AR-15, even with good ear protection, is making my ears ring even more than my loud music. I can't give up much more hearing. The whole process seems pretty daunting though. I hope the gun shop I am going to is experienced with the process. I've already been to another shop that seemed clueless about the process even though they had the Kiosk sitting there. This is the first time I have heard "single shot trust" mentioned so now, I'm a little more confused but that is the trust I will ask about. I had a really hard time deciding on which suppressor to get, but wanting to save a little money on my first one, I think I will get the YHM Fat Cat mainly because it is short and fat and seems to suppress very well. I'm sure I will invest in a better one at a later date. Also, you convinced me not to get a suppressor for my 9mm.

Getting a supressor is a crazy and complicated process. I’ve tried a couple of times. First time I waited a year and a half, and then was denied by the ATF. Still don’t know why. But, I’d paid around a thousand dollars for the supressor and the tax stamp. After waiting a year and a half, I got about half of that back. No refund on the tax stamp, and a 30% restocking fee on the supressor. Now, I’m a year and three months into my second attempt. Again, I paid about a thousand dollars over a year ago. Still waiting. It’s a lot of expense and effort just to try to protect my hearing and my family’s hearing in the event of a home defense situation. 🤷♂️

If they're charging you a restocking I would find a different dealer. I got denied on one of my cans because of a spelling error and I got refunded my tax stamp money. I reapplied and got it approved in about 7 months.

Buy a 22lr can, a 9mm or 45 ACP whatever you actually shoot alot. Then buy a 30 cal can. That will cover most everything. I got a 22lr & a 9mm PCC & currently shopping for a 30 cal for my 308. This is perfectly timed for me. Looking to buy one this summer. But im still confused about the order of the process. Am i taking this extra background check and paying all in the same day? Am i buying the suppressor the same day? Should i be waiting to buy the suppressor and do the tax stamp and background check first?
@jcb86-a Жыл бұрын
The silencer company applies the serial number immediately upon purchase…then it sits and waits for approval. I suggest calling someone like Silencer Central. They really helped me debunk a lot of information I thought I knew. I rolled everything in to a single purchase including tax stamp, suppressor and trust and they even split it into 8 interest free payments. It doesn’t even require a credit check, as they will have the suppressor until approved. If it gets approved before the final payment, you can pay the balance immediately, or continue until paid in full. My only complaint with Silencer Central was that I had to wait 3 weeks for a certification appointment once my fingerprints were approved, because they were busy. The positive is that you never have to leave your house, and several months later it appears at your door.
@zeromech1450 Жыл бұрын
@@jcb86-a he mentioned another background check. Is it the same one I already did for my firearms?
@jcb86-a11 ай бұрын
@@zeromech1450 Yes, but for some reason you fill out the 4473 after you get ATF approval. So, it’s establishing a trust, then form 4 (NFA Item) with a passport style photo, fingerprints, submission to ATF (including payment for tax stamp), wait, wait, wait, wait…approval from ATF, then form 4473, then notice to my sheriff, then the suppressor ships to my home. At least that’s the process through Silencer Central, but I would assume the process is the same for most if there aren’t local laws that differ from mine.

That was loud! You want quiet i discovered the ultimate pew pew suppressor only drawback is there only good for 50- 100 rounds but good thing is dirt cheap and can carry as many as you want. So here it is get yourself a white corn cob not a yellow🌽 one them you going to remove about 10 kernals drill yourself a little 1/4 port straight through to middle or whatever bore size you want. Stick that cob right on the end of your rifle,pistol,ect gun of your choice except for higher calibers like 50 cal 338 lapua definitely no shot guns you get the point. But 556, 223, 9 mm, 30 cal no problem. And get this you can travel all 50 states. Going to other countries might be a problem as you cant take fruits or vegetables to and from certian places but really you just make yourself a new one as long as they got corn! If you forget to declare and your in danger of getting caught, well simple stick it right up your corn hole and avoid body scanners. No tax stamp, nothing. If someone thinks you been using one either back in the corn hole, or simply start eating it as fast as possible. Hope it wasnt the one you had in the corn hole. Anyway its so quiet just find out for yourself! Im not responsible for any problems you may encounter. Use at your own discretion and be safe and responsible out there. You may want to carry Vaseline or some type of lube with you at all times fyi! Be safe!

Some people would like to own a silencer without worrying about the government placing them in a room for 10 years.

I don't understand why anyone would put a suppressor on a home defense weapon, the bad guys ain't gonna have one. Ear muffs on the bed side table are cheaper, more effective, and don't require any paperwork.

Most of the time in a real world event where you find yourself needing to quickly use your weapon for self defense, ear pro will not be on your mind. You'll be tired and confused and scared when you get woke up in the middle of the night with a stranger in your home. Just my opinion

The last thing you want to do in a self defense situation is to handicap one of your senses. Hearing is perhaps the most valuable sense besides sight when there are people somewhere in your home with unknown intentions.

What about other family members in your household? Quick…put the earmuffs on the baby and the dog! Also, communication with the family in a panic situation is key.

@@jcb86-a it's obvious yall are inventing wild scenarios just to be contrarian, and haven't actually thought this thru. Your family should already know the drill for emergencies, you aren't going to be coordinating a CQB counter assault with your wife and children and dog. They are going to jam their fingers into their ears on instinct as soon as rounds break loose. Suppressor pros: it will make your personal guns a little quieter, hides muzzle flash. Cons: It's still way too fucking loud to protect your hearing indoors, adds 6 inches and a pound to the end of your barrel, shitty ballistics, expensive, taxes, paperwork, fingerprints, months and months of waiting, and bad guys don't use them. Do whatever you want, feel free to leave your own comment about how super awesome supressors are, but you haven't convinced me that it's a useful idea in any way.
