At 2:07 the way I learned it was that the right hand comes through the middle more, in sync with the knee, and is more of a straight uppercut that where both the knee and the right hand strike are focusing your momentum and therefore increasing your power.

the fine footwork and intimate details are important but what is more important is treating this kata as a self contained self defence system, a series of techniques stored in a KATA so that they can be practiced and remembered. I explain the Bunkai as I show the movements, e.g the move where one turns away and strikes up to an upper cut.. a shoulder throw. and the jump would be landing on them and placing them in a lock/pin. I then take them aside and get them to do a shoulder throw and a pin on a partner.. they can then practice the imaginary movements at home and that can only be good!!

Thanks, finally one with explanation. My Sensei wants me to practice at home as well, this makes it way easier! :)

@Sephirothj666: I agree with the other poster. Your remarks are disrespectful. Also you are incorrect. In the SKIF system your front leg is supposed to move to the side when you switch from zenkutsu dachi to kokutsu dachi. It's stated clearly in the official syllabus.

kata vary so much between styles, but that's what makes it so awesome :) I do shukokai karate, and godan has a few different stances and movements, etc. I'm going to have to switch styles when I go to university, so it's going to be confusing, but very fun!

I’m a 2nd degree black belt in TKD. After moving states I was forced to begin Karate due to a lack of TKD schools. Because of my experience, martial arts is such a part of my life that my instructor has allowed me into his advanced classes while only being an orange belt. Because of that, and because of the International Training Camp I went too, I’ve ended up doing this Kata more than my own Kata (Sandan). This is also the case with Tekkishodan, which I’ve helped myself learn here.
