I had a similar experience with them, Kyle. I got about 4500 miles out of one and about 5000 miles out of another rear. Kept the same front the entire time. My front tire looked like yours but twice as bad once I finally pulled it. The tire has a strange buzz and vibration at about 25 to 30 mph. The rear did great off-road, but I didn't think power sliding wasn't as predictable on dirt as the Anakee Wild. Just seemed to break loose unpredictably when forcing it. You talked about the front loading up with mud sliding. I posted a video on these a while back. The first day I took them out, it rained pretty hard here in Northern Nevada. I got a pretty good unpredictable slide out of them, and man, were they ever loaded up. Granted, I wonder if too many tires would have performed much better in that situation. I also noticed the front tire seemed looser than the Anakee Wild on gravel roads. It definitely darts less in ruts. I don't really know if I like that better or not. It seems to run straighter off-road than the Anakee Wilds. But it also doesn't get the traction. I also felt the uneasiness of the rear tire when cornering hard. I didn't realize until you pointed out that there is a big spacing there. I thought the lugs were folding over or something, as that is what it feels like to me. Thanks so much for sharing you do excellent reviews.

I'm running the Ranger on the rear and tkc 80 on the front. I'm a fan of the tkc 80 for the front, it does everything pretty well and I get 6-7k out of one. I'm also pretty happy with the Ranger and I'll probably get around 3k out of it and thats not bad considering the rocky terrain we have in Arizona. I probably would consider running it again at some point.

I think since so many of us run mismatch tires front and rear in the offroad segment, it might be helpful in the future to make separate reviews(sections) for the front and rear tire! I know its more work but I think you definitely talked more about the front being sketchy which might entirely turn people away from the tire even if the rear is still good. I will be throwing on a ranger rear and wild front end of this month, and will be tackling a look consisting of deep graded fireroads, deep sand hills, babyhead/stone step hills, and slick clay/mud. Trailmax was an absolute nightmare in the wet stuff, and mediocre on the sand(I never stopped so didnt get to find out how well it digs, rather not). Will report back on how the rear performs, we all know the wild is good haha For $250 if it wears better on the rear than the wild($260) I might go with this combo since I commute to work on my bike anyways(25km daily)

I have never hated a tire so much at the K60. From washing out in a wet parking, to sliding the front into oncoming traffic on a mountain curve on cold pavement...this tire was horrible on anything hard unless it was +60 degree's cuz its hard compound. Its offroad performance wasnt good either. I took them off after 400 miles, sold them and never bought a hard tire ever again.

Bought a set when they launched in South Africa. Very happy with the solid carcass, means I can take big hits at low pressures and it’s fine on my Africa Twin. I only got 2700 km out of the rear and that was mostly loose shale rock, gravel and hardpack. The rear tire gets super sketchy on tar when worn down though. Nice tyre but I’m on Motoz now.

Like I suspected our experience is almost identical. Great for highway, packed gravel, and hardpack. No grip in the very loose stuff. I am fairly new to riding off-road, but my riding has been 99% what this tire was built for. They performed way better than the Dunlop 606's I took off in those conditions, especially on the highway and gravel roads. I'm nearly to 3K on my set and the rear is getting flat and a little sketchy when leaned. For reference I'm on a DR650 with much narrower rims than what this tire was probably designed for (although I couldn't find a rim width recommendation). They have performed well for me and now I'm trying to decide what to try next. I'm leaning towards a dual venture/rallz combo in the tube style but would love to hear your thoughts.
@manybikes

Pretty interesting eh!? Everyone who has them who has commented here has said they have all felt the same. You need the Dual Venture (tube type) and the RallZ in the 120 or 130 on your DR650. You will not want to try anything else after that... Serious.

Yeah, looking at that ranger front I did not have high hopes for dirt grip. The blocks are just too big! Reminds me of the look of the shinko 804 front which I really disliked. The TKC80 and AX41 fronts are both way better. Although now I put a dual venture front on and I'll not run any other front tire on this bike. What a phenomenal front tire. For now I'll keep running the ranger rear - love the street handling and it's good in the dirt, and so much cheaper than the Rallz rear.

@therealturbofanisme

@@manybikes That's what I'm hoping for. For me, the biggest benefit of the dual venture is just how much better it works in loose terrain. It is SO MUCH BETTER in sand than the AX41. It's also chunky and has better rim protection in rocky terrain being a stiffer tire. Yeah the AX41 feels better on road for sure but the DV is good enough and so much better in the dirt.

I enjoy the asphalt to the trails, but the stock Pirellis preemptively send the bike to the ground when they SEE mud. I think you could do a whole segment on 'noise to traction' ratios. @@manybikes they wobble in rain grooves and when pushing them hard on the street you can feel the knobies flexing , also they start to wobble a bit about + 160 km/h. I think you will love them when you try them. By the way, Did it make any big difference airing down the Ranger? Have the feeling carcass is super rigid, I sat on top of the tyre when got home and didn't even move an inch 😂. Many thanks as always for your help Kyle.

Awesome! Re: the Ranger... Yes and No... they are STIFF that is for sure. Aired down did help but the front tire big flat blocks were sketchy at all pressures.

Kyle, with regard to the shortcomings you noticed on the front on loose soil with inch-ish sized rocks and on pavement on the rear near the end-of-life, how would the Ranger compare to a MotoZ RallZ (or Dual Venture) front and a MotoZ Tractionator RallZ or Adventure rear?

I’ve mounted a Rallz / Dual Venture shortly after shooting this video in Sept. 7k miles later the Rallz rear is done… the front still has probably 3k more miles in it…. And they are both “still working” as needed. They cost more… but are better tires all the way around. Oh… my Karoo 4’s arrive this week!

What tire(s) do you recommend for gravel in a 90/90-21 front?

The RallZ or Dual Venture front tires work great.

Thx for the review Kyle! How would you compare front Ranger to AX41? Mileage-wise and handling-wise?

AX41 hands down! But... it wears out quickly.

What do you recommend on the front? I’m riding all kinds of terrain mostly forest and sometimes mud, sand an gravel 😅

I'd say the AX41, or the Anakee Wild or the Motoz Dual Venture

Would it be possible to run this on a 1.5” front rim

Yes. That would work… I wouldn’t though. What bike do you ride? What type of terrain?

@@manybikes well I have a '23 KTM 1290 SA-R. Rottweiler Sent me the wrong rim width rim by mistake and won't take it back. So I am stuck with an $800 paperweight, or I'm about to throw a tire on it and hope for the best. Otherwise, the factory wheel is still on my bike. As far as terrain, It's mostly BDR's with this bike. I am planning on riding COBDR next year. Would a Motoz RallZ be better in this situation?

@@BigDaveTALKS yes, it will work just fine. I prefer other front tires. Wasn’t too impressed with this one in the dirt. But yes, any of the 90/90-21 tires will fit on the rim.

@@manybikes okay great. Once you mentioned how it performs in the sand I turned to the RallZ. I actually like riding in the sand especially with my T7 equipped with Motoz Desert H/T. Thank you for your time in responding and thank you for the informative content. I’m about to order the tire and finally put this front wheel on.

The AX41 is my favorite tire… it feels amazing. But it doesn’t last. The Motoz Rallz rear and Dual Venture tires are my Go-to tires. The work well and for a long time.

I have used several sets of AX41s. The Ranger rear is considerably more durable and performs comparably. I haven't tried the ranger front but it seems pretty terrible haha
