I realized in the editing process that I murdered the song name... They say it in the song repeatedly and I was so wrapped up in the music during the reaction I completely missed it. "Ah no wah nuh". 😅 I swear I'm going to make a compilation of me mispronouncing things in about 6 months. lol Hope you all enjoy this one... this group stuck with me after the reaction but you'll hear more about that later this week. Hope you all are well!

definitely continue down the Heilung rabbit hole! their music is among the most healing (very fitting name they have) i've ever listened to. i mostly use a lot of their songs for meditation purposes. true soul music. a favorite of mine from theirs is called "In Maidjan", which involves a hypnotizing chant of the Elder Futhark runes. the nature of their songs make me feel like i'm awakening a part of me that modern society is trying to crush. authenticity. inner authority. sacred knowledge and dancing with your own darkness instead of falling prisoner to it. a lot of these songs are designed to sort of induce a trance-like state, but it surprised me how calming it was to sort of lean into that by using their music as meditation. there's another song of theirs called "Krigsgaldr" which describes a peaceful village that is invaded by someone, or many someones, who "only know the language of the sword", and so despite many attempts at a truce, the peaceful village is forced to go into battle. after i found out the inspiration, to me, it's become a song that represents the struggle of finding peace during a period of darkness that is out of your control. here is a piece of writing that they leave in every description of their videos that i think captures what this music tends to remind people of: "Remember, that we all are brothers All people, beasts, trees and stone and wind We all descend from the one great being That was always there Before people lived and named it Before the first seed sprouted"

As I understand it, they open every ritual (NOT concert) with that as well, in a call-and-response format with the participants. It sets the frame of mind for everything that follows.

I was at this "ritual" (as Heilung and fans like to refer to their live performances) at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. Amazing experience and I was fortunate to see them again a few months later headlining one night at ArcTangent Festival, up in the Mendip Hills, Somerset (not far from Glastonbury). Interestingly, the title of the video refers to "Lifa LLyn Dain". This is Heilung playing with older native languages and is intended to translate as "Live in London" in a combination of Old Norse and what seems to be Welsh, at first glance. However, the modern Welsh for London is Llundain (roughly pronounced "clean-dine" but saying the "cl" whilst placing your tongue at the front roof of your mouth and drawing out the sound a bit) so this isn't a perfect match, even though Llyn Dain holds similarities to LLundain. I wasn't entirely sure where the alternate spelling came from. Could it be an older form of Welsh or another Brythonic language (Cornish, Breton, the now extinct Cumbric)? It turns out that Llyn Dain was suggested (circa 1855) as a possible Welsh origin for the name of the city and was thought to translate to "Pool of the Thames". This theory isn't widely held though with the name almost certainly coming from the locals that lived in the area at the time of the Roman invasion and whose language, although related to Welsh, far predates any modern form of Welsh.

You might be interested in their song “Traust”. There are three versions online that I know of: one a live video taken at a ritual at Red Rocks, one the official music track from the album release, and an unofficial lyric video with translation from the sung Old Norse to English. The live video is very powerful, but NSFW due to a key female performer (NOT Maria) being topless, even though it’s done in a completely nonsexual way.

I just recorded my reaction to the Red Rocks version of that song. I wondered if it was a ritual of sorts. Definitely noticed the nudity but it felt more a part of the performance than anything else. Hope to get that one uploaded next week.

Heilung is one of my favorite bands! You can't really even call them a band. Like you said, they're more of a historical reenactment. Feeling that connection to something so ancient is a powerful experience that is hard to find anymore. @tonyharmon85123 ай бұрын
Yes they do. They also have used human bones tapping and have had some significant problems getting them through customs in many countries. The antlers and costumes are all handmade. The chimes are hand hammered metals and many of the drumsticks are leather ends over bone or hardwood. Drones are Ox Horns. The stringed instruments are also handmade. There is some electronic instrumentation but only as support. Nature and ritual brought home to the soul.
