Denmark is very conservative in that regard. I saw one particular post on Facebook a few years before Heilung even existed that they had seen a "dreadful looking Norwegian woman with dreadlocks" on the bus which would have been Maria's daily commute when she was a librarian. Experiences like that could be where it came from. I bought merch from her a few times at Valravn shows and she was always very guarded and self-protective, coming across perhaps even as a little arrogant in the way that people can be when they have built a wall around themselves after being harassed by idiots. My ex was the same - didn't like her much until the walls came down.

She is stunning! However, many of us females while growing up in a society which promotes a constant changing visual/ surface level of beauty , feel horrendous. The makeup doesn't feel right. The clothes are awkward. When you begin to present authentic to how you feel. You feel and present beauty.

My family background is western Europe and welsh and Scandinavian. I encourage you if you feel like you are lost to try to find a medieval group near you. The people are the most open and least judgmental and are full of people of all shapes, sizes and life experiences that we all tap into to support one another.

Thank you for this video that allows an insight on their previous lives. I feel lucky to have met them backstage of Castlefest 2017 where I was also playing, after their concert I was deeply emotional and even cried while they recited the elder futhark, that performance was legendary, a true portal to the otherworld opened during that concert. I was so supersized when Christopher and Maria said that was the first time they ever performed it like that, it felt that they were joking, but they were not. They are amazing and the world definitely need their healing powers.

Interesting as this is, I feel you leave out the important fact that Maria and Christopher had been recording together as Euzen and doing some quite interesting stuff in video form for some years previously. And that Christopher had also been involved with a more grass roots electro-medieval project called Valravn, which Maria also guested with several times. Euzen even warmed up for Valravn on one tour of Denmark. Both those bands were very special. I miss the hell out of both of them. The way this is presented makes it seem as if Kai and Christopher magically produced a career in music out of thin air, which was not the case. The Castlefest appearance would surely not have been possible if Euzen's appearance at the same festival a few years before hadn't been such a big success.

Having grown up strictly Evangalical (in a part of the world where it wasn't even popular), Greek mythology also was my gateway drug. I think it's so popular for curious Christian children as a lot of christian thought expands upon pre-christian Greek and Roman philosophy (mostly stoicism and Platonisism), so somehow there is some cultural acceptance for engaging with texts of that mythology. That same leniecy didn't expand to Germanic paganism however.
@CuriousTunes4 ай бұрын
I think it’s due to the spirituality of Ancient Rome and Greece being so intertwined, and well, later Christianity was merged with those roots. It’s has a sacred role to its perceived status as the source of western civilization. There is more to it for sure, but yeah, it enjoys a privileged spot in the collective unconsciousness in the psyche of western civilization
@SuperMcScotty4 ай бұрын
@@CuriousTunes Yes, you’re absolutely right! It’s still odd that Greek and Roman mythology enjoy that privilege though. Germanic paganism left such a big impact on our folk psyche and even intermixed in the catholic tradition. Traditions such as major and minor religious festivals and the roots of the various saints. Around where I live, in the rural villages of the Limburg province of the Netherlands, the pre-Christian cultural influences are still very tangible (even though most people wouldn’t recognize them as such). Those are as much bedrock to Western thought as Greco-Roman thought.
@CuriousTunes4 ай бұрын
@@SuperMcScotty I would assume the Germanic apprach towards spirituality did not align with the aim of control at all. Point being, if your intent is to control and maintain an empire, having "savages" run around and do what they feel is right, could be seen as a very real threat. The spirit of greek paganism might have aligned more with values of control. I mean, it is likely not by chance, that so many huge empires sprang up in that area. Super complicated, but also interesting topic though.

Does anybody know how they obtained their animal materials? As much as I absolutely love this band, I cannot help but to be ethically concerned about the animal materials they use, especially about the fox, bear and wolf pelts I've seen on their LIFA video performance, and about the small critter which I presume is a fox whose legs and tail hang from Kai's hat. Have any animals been killed for the purpose of costumes? It would help me so much if somebody knows this.
@n0namesowhatblerp36226 күн бұрын
Dude...no..look up the laws in scandinavia , easy solution to your questions. If the pelts are real, theyre probably really old. I know their bone instrument is liek really really old, because theyre not allowed to be made anymore. Some of which contain human bones as well. But where is the wolf? I see a lot of reindeer pelts, which is normal, the samis make them. Wolves are especiaslly protected in sweden atleast, they belong in nature. The samis however, (indigenous to the northern nordic countries and russia) as well as elk hunters though wants all the wolves dead as well as the hunters. Hippies like Heilung dont. i bet you never thought that.

I was raised to believe I was ugly (all my peers from kindergarten until graduation), and in a strict Christian no tv household too. I’m 43 and now finding myself drawn to this way of life or existence with nature which always brought me peace. (Paganism, I guess, although I don’t label it). 😢

No need to label anything in life. There is an old saying: as soon as you know the name of a bird, you are unable to see it for what it is. Be natural first and foremost. Creating boxes is for other kind of people :) wish you all the best in your healing journey

im so glad people are returning to the old ways, the true ways, before evil (Christians) took control of everything.

Wish we had colonies like this in the USA!

I think you do have at least a few communities. There is this Viking side on TikTok who is doing stuff I think. Also saw the dude from Norse magic and beliefs have also attended different Viking markets in states.
