Why Ignaz gave 4 accidentals? 2 in the high octave, and 2 in the other octave that is lower

They're notated accordingly to the scordatura given at the beginning of the score. Not quite intuitive, but still logic. :)

Doing scordatura that high nowadays might risk breaking your strings, even on the G and D. Can modern steel strings handle that?

As far as I know, string players are usually annoyed by a scordatura of more than one tone (especially higher). I think for this Biber's masterwork they probably use some trick, like an A string for the D uptuned as F.

Gut strings are much more flexible than the modern and synthetic strings. But indeed, using a D string in the G string's place for example, will help with getting a clear tone without it sounding strained.

Can confirm I broke a string doing this one... I think you're meant to look for synthetic "low tension" strings for a non-gut option.
