I hear you Larry. We have not had too much rain, but last year we did. They used to say “a wet year will starve you to death and a dry year will scare you to death”.

I just planted my heirloom flint corn today. I know it's late but it is what it is. We've still got plenty of heat left in Texas. I think I'll go out and put down some crimson clover! Thanks for the tips.

Thank you Justin. I suggest that when you reach 50 or a bit more, you should wright about all the life you saw around you with your grand pa, your father, your mother, how was the life you discover at that time because when you talk about it like last time, for me it was very interesting, very rich and make me want to know more about it. And the way you decided to work and live comes from that part of your life and it's not the case of the majority... Think about that.

Hey Justin I’m fixin to be 60 and the old timers when I was young use to plant fetch as a cover. In winter they would turn there cows or whatever livestock they had to supplement their food. It was supposed to put nitrogen in the ground along with the manure from the animals. Nowadays not to many know what a cover is!

You could do the three sisters planting with your Hickory King corn. Plant a row of beans between your rows of corn, and pumpkins where you aren't putting the beans. You just need to skip rows for the vines to spread on the pumpkins.

Yeah my experiment with that some Kevin thanks for the suggestion

Hand pulling weeds small scale (3 acres of Garden on 9 acre homestead) for 23 years now. We do Hickory King every 3rd year. Being small, we have to grow different corn in different years to prevent crossing.

I learned from a local farmer’s niece to plant peanuts in the hole with the corn seed. It provides all the nitrogen the corn needs. I use 2 shelled peanut seeds to one corn seed.

dont know if you will see this comment since its been a year but we have problems once in awhile with crows going in our chicken coup and stealing eggs, i learned this from a old timer and it works great, all you have too do is harvest a crow if you know what i mean and hang it from a rope or string in the area you want to keep them away from and they wont be back anytime soon i use a pellet rifle with a scope and it works every time

Thinking about getting an old reliable tractor with a plow of some kind. I dont know where to start with looking for a tractor.

I have no doubt in you no-tilling your corn, but you will need to have a system for weed control, with out chemical, I'm not too sure what to tell you.
