That’s a beautiful display case. If you want the best fold for the flag itself, take it to a VFW or a recruiting station and ask them to fold it.

Really nice work! Next time you want to cut plexiglas just use utility knife and score it many times. After that it is easy to just break it off :)
@dkbuilds Жыл бұрын
That's a great tip Darko I'll try that next time for sure. I was worried it wouldn't work on this 1/4" plexi because it's too thick, but I should have tried!
@darkosimic86 Жыл бұрын
@@dkbuilds it should work on any thickness if you score it enough. I usually score third of the thickness with the back of the utility knifes blade and after that I continue same motion with the edge until I go through it.

Fantastic work brother. I have so much cherry in the shop that I've been doing a lot of projects with it, but damn do I miss some good walnut. Completely separately, I've shared your videos with a few friends of mine lately when they asked what kind of videos I'm watching on YT, and the consensus amongst the women in my friend group is, apparently, you have very nice hands. Figured you'd want to hear that.

KZbin must have spied on me talking to my friend Sunday about building flag cases! This came out great, and I love the pegs in the back, super simple. How did you manage to get the closed captioning to do that? Great idea!!
@dkbuilds Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment Ben! This was my first time experimenting with closed captioning, glad it turned out OK!
@BenNawrath Жыл бұрын
@@dkbuilds Worked out great! How did you do it? Is there a hidden audio track or something?
@dkbuilds Жыл бұрын
@@BenNawrath There's a way to manually add your own subtitles in KZbin, you assign each segment a timestamp of when it should appear in the video. It's not too difficult actually, compared to editing the text directly into the video. You can also change them whenever you want if you find a typo or a mistake, which is a nice bonus compared to editing them into the video too!

@dkbuilds Жыл бұрын
Thank you Ramskog! And that's a great question, I have thought a lot about it too. I think it should be possible but it would be incredibly complicated.... basically every angle you cut changes. Mind bending to think about!

Nice build. I've been planning on doing one of these for a while for my father's flag, but I've not built up the courage to attempt the miters (I lack a table saw).
@dkbuilds Жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt! This would be an interesting build using only a miter saw (or a miter box with a hand saw). Cutting the groove for the plexiglass could be done with a router. Do you have one of those?
@garynelles Жыл бұрын
Nice video! How do you like the Cosman dovetail saw? I have only used mine a few times. I have to practise more because unless I really concentrate I will cut on a slight angle to the right.
@dkbuilds Жыл бұрын
Thanks Gary! I love my dovetail saw. It definitely takes practice though, and I'm far from an expert. At least half the time I pack sawdust/glue mixture into small gaps off camera! What do you use to cut dovetails if not your RC saw?
@brianpearce1890 Жыл бұрын
Do you still have your planer, jointer, and miter saw or did you downsize after growing into the basement space?
@brianpearce1890 Жыл бұрын
Derp. Noticed jointer a few seconds into the video.
@dkbuilds Жыл бұрын
I do :) planer and miter saw are still on my mobile flip top cart which sometimes I wheel out of my workshop to make more space.
@brianpearce1890 Жыл бұрын
@@dkbuilds cool! I am also doing workshop Tetris and your builds are so nice, I was wondering if I should just focus on learning hand tools and ditch some of my big power tools.
@dkbuilds Жыл бұрын
@@brianpearce1890 Ahh gotcha. You could do what Paul Sellers does and only have a bandsaw, you can accomplish a lot with that for sure. For me minimum would be bandsaw, planer, jointer. Most of what you can do with a table saw you can do with a bandsaw, and planer+jointer can be done by hand but it's an enormous amount of work. You could consider getting an all-in-one tool like a Shopsmith but I don't have any experience with them (and they appear to be quite expensive).
