Just an added note to those who have sent me comments which I do thank you and love to receive here is an updated comment from me.. after I left that statement I decided to do more research into The writer / director and understood her a lot better....thank you for giving me your opinion. With more recent videos she explained that she also has read some of the diaries herself and is using her inspiration from them to do a second season. I’m happy she’s doing a second season. But I still have hopes that HBO will do a very deep and very complete documentary about Ann Lister leaving out any embellishments.

Helena doesn’t get enough credit from recent “history writers” of Anne Lister for all her research. Even Sally Wainwright kind of glosses over her contribution.

I wonder if there's any chance the complete journals will be published as a whole? I'd love to read them.

I love listening to Ms. Whitebread. The producer, Sally Wainwright, of the show is always in the spot light...I’m worried that season 2 will move away from the journals as the Ms. Wainwright seems to be in love with the lime light.... Ms. Helen Whitebread seems to enjoy the actual journal and doesn’t add opinions or wants to change Ann’s history.....thank you Ms. Whitebread for all your hard work....you need to be in history right next to Ann

I agree the true writings are different than the show. Maybe HBO will do a long documentary that follows the diarys.

I’m going to get the books this wonderful lady Transcribe from Ann Lister‘s journals. Did she really dress all in white and dance at the Queen‘s birthday party with another lady? Has anybody else read the books yet? Do they know if this is true? It just seems to go against her character trying to fit in as a social Lady of society.

She did! She felt like she couldn't show up all black in front of the queen :-)

I'm sure it was a one time move though haha. The last book "gentleman jack" wasnt like the previous 2 and so it didn't show all journal entries. I wish it did because those are way more fun to read than the interpretation of the writer

Miranda Buijs thank you, I’m glad to hear she did show up in white but would she have danced with another women in that setting....since it was the Queens Ball she would of been look down on doing such a thing and been Shunned By some of high side I would think....so do you know if she dance with another women at the Queens Ball...I do know that some societies allow women to dance with women but doesn’t was a totally different situation. It was the queens ball where they highest of manners and societies rules would’ve applied

@@rosepalmer73 no she did not when I read her diary entry. It says "might be about 50 ladies in front and as many behind and perhaps half as many more. The queen, the princesses Christian, and Caroline princess royal, and then her young sister Wilhelmina followed round the circle. As the queen began with the lady's half circle, the king began with the gents half. Each went the whole round, and then to the ballroom, and following the royal family. Dancing till 12..." and the entry is much longer than that but it never implies dancing with Lady Harriet de Hageman.

Miranda Buijs thank you, in my way of thinking I didn’t believe she would. I hope some day they put the whole journals in to a book...I’m 68 this year so don’t know if it will happen in my life time...

That's the impression I had of Anne 's uncle and aunt; that they were gay also.
