The tomato soup argument works when you remember there is tomato JUICE in the drink and liquor aisles of most supermarkets, and tomato juice is just less seasoned tomato soup with less pulp blended in. Also, we say we "drink" soup all the time in my neck of the woods if it is a liquid consistency. We "drink" a blended tomato soup or lobster bisque and "eat" a cheddar and broccoli or cream of mushroom soup (which usually has mushroom chunks where I am.)
