Love this review and all your others I've seen so far. I watch and read other mattress reviews as well, and many are useful. But I get the feeling they're checking off boxes, using review templates and generally having trouble figuring out what to say about the product for 7-10 minutes. You take a very thoughtful, analytical and systematic approach to your reviews. 20+ minutes well spent!

Thank you for the thorough review. Most of the other videos that I can find for the Helix mattress are 10 minute incentivized reviews where the person slept on the mattress for two days before making the review and (you guessed it) has nothing but great things to say about their new free mattress. I think my girlfriend and I are going to be ordering this mattress tomorrow in a King size. She is a 120lb side sleeper that likes a very soft mattress and I'm 175, back sleeper, that likes a firmer mattress. I think I'm going to go very soft for her side and medium-to-medium-firm on side. I wish there was a "medium firm to firm" option, but it seems like the only options are "medium to medium firm" or "firm to very firm". Maybe I can call them like you recommended and see if they can make a firmness between those two levels. Another thing you mentioned that concerns me is that I prefer to sleep ON the mattress as opposed to IN the mattress. The way it seems that the way Helix's latex (which has since been replaced with Helix's Dynamic foam) hugs the body kind of concerns me. I wonder if when I talk to them and see if they can adjust the point elasticity so that it would give me the feeling of lying on the bed as opposed to into it. Thanks again and liked!

Thank you +leecm. Note that for many of these (including Helix) we too get small referral fees that support this work -- but we started doing these because we're tired of seeing "review" sites that just regurgitate online mattress marketing claims. This is the digital version of the sleazy mattress salesman.

GoodBed Since you've actually laid on this bed and worked with this company, would you say that this is a case of a company with an inferior product abusing deceiving marketing tactics to sell a lower quality product (ie. Companies using like 90% incentivized reviews on Amazon before Amazon stopped it) or is it a case of a new company with a product comparable to its competitors that is just trying to get its name out there? Either way all of the incentivized reviews kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
@leecm8 жыл бұрын
GoodBed oh I don't mind you making referral fees at all. You are actually giving useful information for the bed that would help the customers make an informed buying decision. I can't say the same for most of the other videos for the Helix.

Hi +leecm -- I just noticed that I missed the second two paragraphs of your original comment. Sorry for that. Re: the concerns you have for you and your girlfriend, it sounds like you guys are textbook candidates for a split configuration. I would expect that if you enter each of your respective preferences the way you described above, that's what Helix's algorithm will recommend as well. In terms of your firmness preference, neither of the configurations we tried were "firm to very firm," so I can't speak to how much firmer that will be than what we tried. That said, my instinct would be to answer their questionnaire honestly and go with whichever feel they recommend for your side. They have a strong incentive to get the feel recommendation right in order to minimize returns (which are a big hit to the bottom line for these guys), and their algorithm should have the benefit of knowing what other people like you answered and whether they returned it. In terms of sleeping IN vs ON the mattress, it should be noted that in general, latex (or their latex substitute) is one of the materials that best embodies that "floating on top of the mattress" feeling. And since you weigh even less than me, I would expect you'd sink in even less than what is shown in the video, provided you are assigned the same or lower point elasticity (I was assigned "High" for my side, which surprised me a little TBH). In terms of your concerns about deceiving marketing tactics, this is a tricky topic. In this case I think it actually speaks well of the company (Helix) that they asked us to do this review. We are very up-front about our beliefs -- including that no mattress is perfect for everyone -- and the fact that our reviews will always highlight who we believe is / isn't the best match for any given bed. I don't necessarily fault them for seeking "reviews" from less reputable or knowledgeable sources, but it is quite alarming to me to see consumers putting stock in such reviews. We're hoping that consumers will vote for the truth by using our referral links instead of others and by spreading the word that we're offering a better alternative. I really appreciate your astute comments and support.

I'm glad that I noticed the Helix mattress in your reviews. I love the fact that it doesn't have memory foam at all and that it does have micro springs and of course the option to personalize it for me. I was leaning toward the mattresses that had a non memory foam top layer (Bear, Ghostbed) but this looks like possibly the ideal match for me. It also has a good price point. Thanks for all the reviews you do, it's a great help.
@goodbed7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Betty! I'm very glad the reviews are proving helpful to you. The Helix doesn't have any of that memory feel, so it will definitely check the box for you on that front. Since it sounds like this might be useful for you, here is a list of the other mattresses we have reviewed that don't contain any memory foam: Spindle, Zenhaven, WinkBed, Brooklyn Bedding, Love & Sleep (+ more to come). FYI, both Bear and GhostBed do contain some memory foam.

I'm just now learning about this mattress. I don't know if they've changed their materials since this review but the top layer isn't Dunlop latex, it's hd polyfoam that they call Helix Dynamic Foam.
@goodbed7 жыл бұрын
Hi +sheshechic -- Thanks for your comment. You are absolutely correct about this. That was a change they made about 7-8 months ago, just after we shot this video. FYI, any time a change like this happens after we release the video, we update the description of our video accordingly to let our viewers know about it. Here is the full list of Helix updates that we list in the description of this video: -- Update (Apr 17): Pricing for the dual comfort option (i.e., a mattress that is configured differently on each side of the bed to meet the unique needs of each sleeper) now adds $150 to the total price of the mattress. -- Update (Feb 17): Pricing for the Helix mattress has recently been increased relative to the price mentioned in the video. The queen size price has increased from $900 to $995. -- Update (Jan 17): The construction of the Helix mattress has recently been updated. Here are the key changes from what is described in the video: ---> The latex layer has been replaced with an engineered open-cell foam called Helix Dynamic Foam that is designed to have latex-like properties but with more breathability and consistency than the particular type of latex they were using previously (which was a closed-cell Dunlop latex). ---> A new transition layer of poly foam (1.8 lb density) was added between the micro-coils and the support layer to allow for more customization of softness levels. ---> The density of the base support layer was increased from 1.5 lbs to 1.8 lbs to improve durability.

Thank you so much for this review! I was wondering, what foundation could you use for this mattress? My husband had bad knees and the floor wouldn't work for him. Could be use our boxspring for the trial period? I see Helix has one but can't find the price 😉
@goodbed7 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie -- I'm sorry I missed this question last week. You are correct that Helix does offer a matching foundation now. You can see the prices here (in each of the available sizes): www.goodbed.com/o/p/295719/helix-foundation/helix-sleep/ Regarding your question about using your existing box spring, this depends on what type of box spring you have and what condition it's in. Naturally, if it's the same type of foundation that Helix offers and is in good condition, you are fine. Helix's foundation is a slatted base with wood slats that are 3-4" apart. If your box spring has slats that are more widely spaced or are sagging, I wouldn't recommend using it as it will be uncomfortable and will even accelerate the wear of the mattress. Likewise, if your box spring has actual springs, that definitely won't work with a foam mattress like the Helix. I hope that helps.

Great detailed review! Looking into the Helix but I’ve also heard great reviews on the Amerisleep (AS3)...Any thoughts on this brand?
@goodbed7 жыл бұрын
Hi +MrsJ118 -- Thanks for your kind words. Re: Amerisleep, we have not reviewed any of their products, so I'm afraid I can't speak to their products with as much detail as I can many other products. In terms of my general thoughts, I do feel compelled to explain that Amerisleep is affiliated with a large portfolio of websites that present themselves to consumers as unbiased information sources -- but actually are filled with stealthy propaganda for Amerisleep. Some of these sites look quite credible at first glance and get a substantial amount of traffic. For this reason, I would advise a high degree of caution in relying upon anything you may have read about this brand or its products. This network of sites is widely known in the industry so I would add that IMHO any "expert" review site that doesn't explicitly mention this in their review is a site that should not be trusted. I hope that helps.

Thanks +Mark! I hope you love it! And yes, that's a real view of the Bay Bridge in San Francisco! Naturally, we were psyched to be able to use that space for some of our reviews. Our office is nearby but sadly doesn't have nearly as nice a view. :)

Since you did this review almost a year ago, how has this mattress held up? Any sagging or has it lost support? Or do you even still have it?
@goodbed7 жыл бұрын
Hi +triceb890 -- Thanks for your question. Unfortunately we aren't able to sleep on each mattress ourselves for a year, so most mattresses are donated after we complete our review. That said, you can find unbiased ratings from over 100 Helix mattress owners here: www.goodbed.com/mattresses/helix-sleep/ratings/ Just keep in mind that even this data won't yet be a great read on longevity because the oldest Helix mattresses out there are still less than 4 years old. I hope that's at least somewhat helpful nonetheless.

What firmness would u recommend for someone that weighs 165lbs and sleeps from side to stomach??
@goodbed7 жыл бұрын
Hi +sonjae09 -- Thanks for your question. Stomach + Side is the toughest combination since those two positions require the opposite extremes (softer with more cushioning depth for side sleeping, firmer with less cushioning depth for stomach sleeping). As such, your best bet is typically something in the Medium range. You are on the lighter side but even still I would probably stay away from Medium-Soft unless you spend a lot more time on your side than your stomach. On the flip side, if your comfort preference is for something with less softness and/or you spend much more time on your stomach, then you could consider a Medium-Firm. The last thing I'd add is that there are some mattresses that allow significantly more sink and conforming in the side position than they do in the stomach position. This is a particularly good characteristic for stomach + side sleepers.

Hey Mike, have you done a review of the tuck mattress ? Its a lot like the helix with better components in my opinion Please do so if you haven't. Thank you. J .

Hi Jay -- Thank you very much for your suggestion. Ordinarily we would certainly note your suggestion in prioritizing our future reviews, however it seems that as of today Tuck is no longer selling mattresses. Sorry to be the bearer of this news.

Does this help with inflammation
@goodbed6 жыл бұрын
Hi Starleena -- Thanks for your question. While there are some mattresses that do claim to help with inflammation, AFAIK Helix is not one of them. Going a step further, assessments of a medical nature like that go beyond our realm of expertise so I'm afraid we aren't able to offer much in the way of validation or invalidation in terms of which mattresses really do help with inflammation. If this is an important consideration for you, I would recommend getting input from a qualified medical professional. Sorry I can't be of more help on this one.
@StarleenaBarber6 жыл бұрын
@@goodbed Its ok I think I have inflammation cause my memory foam bed is 26 years old ans I'm 25 and I know that it doesn't does what it use to be cause I used to be active and I wake up tire . My parents got it in 1992 which I was born in 1992 but wasn't alive at that time I believe so I think getting a new mattress memory foam will help me.I told them a long time ago I needed a new one but only have one parent cause my mom pass away due to cancer 8 years ago. So what do you think ?
@goodbed6 жыл бұрын
Hi Starleena -- I am definitely not surprised that a 26-year-old memory foam mattress would no longer be providing adequate pressure relief and/or spinal alignment for you. In addition, memory foam mattresses made in 1992 were some of the first memory foam mattresses made, so they were a lot different than the memory foam mattresses available today. So, based on the information you provided, I am certainly inclined to agree with your conclusion that you need a new mattress.

what is the weight of the mattress please?
@goodbed7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dee -- Thanks for your question. The weight of a Helix mattress can vary based on what your personalized configuration ends up being, but will generally fall within the following ranges: King (90-100 lbs), CA King (90-100 lbs), Queen (80-90 lbs), Full (70-80 lbs), Twin XL (40-50 lbs), Twin (40-50 lbs). I hope that helps.
