Thanks for the video and the website write-up, Mike! I've watched and re-watched this a few times as we are making our decision on the right type BRB to buy. I noticed that the goodbed website notes the Series One Medium Pillow Top to be softer than the Series Two Medium Plllow Top. I was a bit confused by this since I thought the Series Two had the additional memory foam that gave it a more surface softness. Is it correct to assume that the Series One MPT would be softer in feel compared to the Series two MPT? Also, in your opinion, would the 2024 line be less prone to the sagging that seemed to be common on the b l c k lines? We tried the Series Four Medium PT And the Series Three Plush PT and found that the three had a bit too much cushioning depth while the Four felt better in terms of depth but could use a tiny bit more softness.
@goodbed5 ай бұрын
Good eye. We generally thought these models were quite close in overall feel, but with slight differences created by adding more memory foam comfort material. Sometimes adding more material - especially if the extra material is memory foam - can add a paradoxical surface firmness to a mattress. Memory foam in general has more surface tension than poly foam, which is part of what makes it memory foam. So all else being equal, it will have less initial "softness" (note that in our parlance, this is not necessarily the same as how deeply you will sink into the mattress, which we capture as part of "cushioning depth"). Sometimes this effect can be very pronounced, but the memory foam used in this model isn't all that firm. So in this case, the additional memory foam caused the Series 2 to have just a tiny bit less surface softness. The other thing I'd note for you is that in our DB I can see that the softness of the Series 1 comes out to a 5.4, while the Series 2 comes out to a 5.7. This causes the Series 1 to fall into our Medium classification and the Series 2 to fall into Medium-Soft. However, one is at the softest end of Medium, and the other is at the firmest end of Medium-Soft. So the point here is that they are extremely close in overall softness. And with regards to durability - we do think these are an improvement, yes. Specifically, the new Black Line has increased the density of their polyfoams, added latex on many models, and (on some models) has used a slightly thicker coil than the previous generation. All of these slight adjustments should improve durability. Here is a complete roundup of all our assessments of both of these models, side by side: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=beautyrest-black-series-1-medium-pillow-top&mod=beautyrest-black-series-2-medium-pillow-top I hope that's helpful.

@@goodbed Thank you for your response! This is very helpful. We are still debating between a series 2 MPT and a Helix Midnight Luxe. I've been reading / watching your review on that bed as well. In your professional opinion, are the 2 beds comparable in comfort and durability? Thank you so much!
@goodbed5 ай бұрын
@@coolguysixtynine Also a good question. There are two ways to look at this. In terms of the foam quality, we'd say that these are roughly comparable. Both the BR Blacks and the Helix Luxe models tend to use better foams than most of the industry. At the level of the coils, these are slightly different. The BR Black coil unit is a unique "Triple-Stranded" pocketed coil that alternates with more conventional pocketed coils, while the Helix Luxe is a more conventional pocket spring with a center zone for additional support. If you're concerned about long-term durability here, we'd probably give the edge to the BR Black coil, which we think is one of the best on the market. Hope that helps. Another great video! I usually prefer hybrids that are plush but still offer good support. However, when I tried the Tempur-Pedic LuxeAdapt Soft in-store, I was surprised by how much I liked it. That said, I still lean towards hybrids with a nice cushioned top that you can sink into, but that also provides solid support. Which Beautyrest model do you think would be the best fit? I'm considering the CX Plush or the 3 Series Plush. Just to confirm, is the 3 Series Plush a hybrid, and how does it compare to the older CX Plush model? I've also considered the KX Plush, though I know those are hard to find. Thanks!
@goodbedАй бұрын
So there's not a strong consensus on the definition of "hybrid" in the market today. What one company calls a hybrid often differs pretty dramatically from a different company. We tend to think that the best definition is that of a smooth-top, pocket spring mattress with some amount of memory foam and/or other specialty foam. Going by that definition, these mattresses are not exactly hybrids as they have quilted covers. That said, this is only a change in the cover, and many of the performance qualities of "hybrids" will still be present in these Beautyrest Black Models. As to which might be best for you - this is difficult, but we think the Series 3 or Series 2 options in either Medium or Plush would likely be a good fit. These are slightly different than the outgoing CX models (which we still liked), and will have pocket coil that isn't zoned (whereas the CX models had some subtle zoning). Hope that helps!

What should I pay for a king size series 4 on black friday?
@goodbed15 күн бұрын
Hi there -- Beautyrest Black is a MAP price brand, which means that stores who sell Beautyrest Black are not allowed to sell it below a minimum price that is set by the manufacturer (Beautyrest) and is shown on their website. Effectively this means that the price of any given BR Black mattress will be the same everywhere you shop. That said, this minimum price does get reduced on major holidays like Black Friday, when Beautyrest has a nationwide sale. Since Beautyrest has already announced (and started) their Black Friday sale, you can already see the marked down prices on their website, which reflect the full Black Friday discount: www.goodbed.com/o/l/beautyrest-black/ More specific to your question, the Series 4 BR Blacks are marked down $600, plus additional savings of $300-400 on matching adjustable bases. On top of that, if you purchase directly from Beautyrest, you can get one more deal -- 4% cash back from us (GoodBed). On a Series 4, this could easily add up to another $200 or more in savings. Here is the info on how to get that cash back: www.goodbed.com/cashback-code/200/ I hope that's helpful.

Probably the most comfortable mattresses, with the best materials and construction I've come across. Second to them, with a slightly different feel, but also great are the Pranasleep Karma Hybrids and Dharma Collection. They are very comfortable, well built, sleep cool, are breathable (way more breathable than a pure foam mattress) and mostly use various firmnesses of Talalay Latex.

Why do the salespeople have to bring such evil pressure on you when you go shopping? It’s a nightmare. 😢
@BigBear--Ай бұрын
@@ladylyonteeth3952Sorta depends on the salesperson, the business, and the expectations you set up front when coming in. I found that particularly if you say you're just here to try out a bunch of stuff you researched, and to leave you alone until you may have some questions, they'll walk away and leave you alone. Some might not take the hint, in which case I'll ask again nicely, if they still won't take the hint, I'll walk out and go somewhere else, or just come back again on a different day. Unless your mattress burned in a fire or something, there's rarely a need to rush that important purchase. Take your time, don't feel embarrassed or pressured. I prefer to lay on a mattresses in stores for at least 10-20 minutes to get a decent feel for them. I also come back multiple times, on different days, and at different times, to confirm, and make sure it wasn't just my mood or how I was feeling that particular day. It also gives you more time to come up with new questions, or discover new models, and do the appropriate research to get some answers. For instance I'm glad I left an came back on different days, spaced apart. Cause one of the stores changed their mattress displays, and moved a bunch if them from box springs, to a flat foundation, or solid adjustable bases. Which totally altered the feel of the mattresses. If I didn't try mine in that setup, I might have picked something else based on in store feel and made the wrong choice. Don't solely rely on the answers from a store salesperson, particularly if they sell more than mattresses there, they can often be wrong or have out of date info. Don't also solely rely on the person there to make a deal. I've had both the salesperson and the store manager try to tell me they won't price match a particular expensive mattress, even though I knew that the corporate policy was that they do price match. So I left and called the corporate office, and they price matched my mattress no questions asked. This was for an Aireloom Luxetop M1 Firm, that's normally $5,699, the in store manager only went as low as like $4,500 during the Labor Day Sale. Meanwhile I found 1 place online in NY that was offering it for like $3199 on sale. Which is the price match I got in FL from the corporate office of the local stores (where I was shopping at the time, for our place down there). So shop around, take your time, and don't take any crap from anyone. Good Luck!

Hi there -- Yes, it is. It looks like we landed on "Medium" for that C-Class Plush PT, and it was even toward the firmer end of that classification. The nuance here is that the softness of these two models is very similar once you get a few inches into the mattress, but the Series 3 has a lot of pillowy softness on top of that, whereas the C-Class has a firm top layer that gives the mattress a firmer feel overall. The series 4 medium summit P/T felt nice but painful for my wife’s hips - she is a 118lb side sleeper- same with series 3 medium. those are the only three that are being displayed in the stores right now. we are considering ordering one site unseen. Choosing between series 2 medium pillow top or series 2 plush. we do not like the sinking in feeling of a mattress, but need the mattress to be soft enough for hips and shoulders for side sleeping. The series 3 medium pillow top also an option, but it does have one layer of high density firm foam so not sure if that will be soft enough for lightweight side sleeper. What would you recommend?
@goodbed6 ай бұрын
Hi Lee -- Thanks for your question. Glad to help. I'm not surprised the Series 3 Plush PT was too soft and deep, since it's at the far end of the spectrum for both of those characteristics. Also not too surprised that the Series 3 Medium was a little firm for your wife's hips, but I am a little surprised that this would be the case for the Series 4 Medium Summit PT. Might be worth giving that one another look. Looking at the other 3 you're considering, I think the Series 3 Medium PT looks like the best bet for you guys. It's got less cushioning depth than the ones you said were too deep, but enough to offer some conformance for a lighter side sleeper. Overall, it's pretty close to the Series 2 Medium PT in feel, but I think it will be a little better for your wife in terms of pressure relief and conformance. Relative to the Series 4 Medium Summit PT that you tried, it will have a little less softness, a little less cushioning depth, and a little less memory feel, but it should perform similarly in terms of pressure relief and spinal alignment. I think you might like looking at a side-by-side comparison between the 3 you're considering and 2 of the ones you tried (I had to leave off the Series 3 Medium since I can only show 5 at a time and that was the one that seemed like it was the least apt for you guys). @@recidivist26 Just saw your other question first. Starting with the parts you didn't ask there: * First, we do agree that the C-Class XF has a touch more bounce than the B-Class XF: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=beautyrest-black-c-class-extra-firm&mod=beautyrest-black-b-class-extra-firm * In terms of comparing the C-Class as a whole to the Series 2/3/4 as a whole, we did in fact find that on average, the latter has 1 point less bounce and 1.3 points more cushioning depth. The memory feel was almost identical overall, but the Series 2/3/4 had about half a point more "delayed recovery" and half a point less "delayed response". So to the extent you were focusing on the recovery time, we'd agree there as well. Net, perhaps we need to hire you as a tester! 😎 In terms of your other question, copying the answer I posted on the other video: On balance, bending your mattress on an adjustable base does add a little bit of extra wear and tear, especially if you've got it flexed to the max by fully elevating the head and foot to the max at the same time. However, in the way that most people use an adjustable base, I don't think the "cost" in terms of accelerated wear and tear outweighs the benefit that you get from the adjustable base features. In terms of which base you use, the main reason to get a matching base is for the matching aesthetics. Beyond that, bases are generally interchangeable and aren't designed to work specifically with one brand of mattress over another. I hope that's helpful.

I notice that Simmons filed for bankruptcy last year. Do you think that will effect their products or quality?
@goodbed6 ай бұрын
Hi Alex -- The company has since emerged from bankruptcy and is newly recapitalized with a much better balance sheet now. So I don't think there is any overhang from the previous bankruptcy that would have a negative effect on the products they're making today. If anything, we're seeing that the foams in this Beautyrest Black quilted line (which is the first new line that they have designed and released post-bankruptcy) have gotten some nice upgrades.

Now the decision to justify the differences in cost lol.. thanks again!

It would be a LOT more helpful if you simply gave the specs of the spring rates and foam types/ILDs for each mattress, otherwise, it's too subjective.
@goodbedАй бұрын
Hi Richard, thanks for the great suggestion! We actually do provide this information for most products, right on our website. You can look up any of the current Beautyrest models there to find a complete breakdown of each individual layer of the mattress. You can also compare up to 5 of them side by side to see their differences very clearly. Here's a link to the models in the current Beautyrest Black quilted collection: www.goodbed.com/mattress-collection/beautyrest-black-quilted/#products One small thing I do want to point out though is that our softness assessments are not actually subjective. Softness is an objective characteristic that we objectively and consistently measure across every mattress we test. So for example, a "Medium-Firm" is always a "Medium-Firm," no matter what brand we are talking about. Of course, whether our definition of a "Medium-Firm" feels comfortable to you IS highly subjective, so we leave that 100% up to you. Our job is simply to provide the best information. FYI, here's a recent press release about how we do that: corporate.dow.com/en-us/news/press-releases/dow-and-goodbed-collaborate-to-establish-landmark-scientific-matress-testing-program.html I hope that's helpful.

Is the b class trash?
@goodbed5 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say that at all, nope! However, the B-Class is being replaced by the Series 1 Line above.

Ever seen one dismantled? The layers are barely attached to one another. This leads to bunching and lumps after just a year or two. Pass.

These are truly awful mattresses for the price. A rip-off, basically. Stay far away.

Why?
@chrismundiath43483 ай бұрын
To everyone wondering , do NOT buy Beautyrest. It’s an absolute low quality mattress , whether that be the lower end or “higher end” models including the Black series. KZbin a video Anatomy of a Mattress by Mattress Makers and they tear up the inside and show what a horrible product it is. Low quality coils, glue just randomly splattered to have the layers stuck together , shifting of the layers etc. It’s basically Walmart quality at premium price. And this isn’t to discredit this video , because it has nothing to do with him. But Simmons makes crappy products. Their formas are low quality , really low quality. No hand tufted mattresses, just crap.

Actually, that video they graded the mattress a "B" they said it had great coils. They didn't like the glue and felt there was too much foam - This was a KX plush model. It was rated a "B" because of the high price tag, but if you look you can get clearance prices on beautyrests. I would supect if you paid 30% less than retail they would grade them even higher than a "B".
