I bought this on VHS from a cd store in a mall in 1999. I was a freash fan of zombie films after playing Resident Evil 1 and 2. I had already seen the Romero flicks and was thirsty for more zombie movies. I bought this and brought it to a friends house. It was so boring and bad we fell asleep while watching it. It happened to be 4th of July weekend and we decided to cram the VHS tape with firecrackers and blow it up. It's a happy memory.

This is my go-to example of a film that works despite itself. It is so objectively awful in so many ways, and yet it still manages to be creepy, disturbing, and suspenseful. The sheer nihilism of the ending (I’m thinking the reveal of the facility’s true purpose and the deaths of the main cast) can genuinely put a lump in my throat, even if that plaster head being ripped apart is absurdly fake.

I love this movie! The "living image of a modern mother" bit is one of the "best" lines in horror history. This would make an amazing double bill with Burial Ground. The closing credit cue is also in Beyond The Darkness, which is also by Goblin, but I don't know if Joe D'Amato stole it or not.

OMFG, my friends and I drove nearly fifty miles to see this damn movie when it first came out as Night of the Zombies, and we were screaming every time they stole from the Dawn of the Dead soundtrack. WHY did we want to see it? The poster was the only thing we needed since it came out of nowhere with zero advertising other than the poster. There was one theater that always had the worst unknown horror movies, so when we saw it was there, we knew it'd be our only chance.

My mom used to work part time at a video store in the late 80's early 90's (Erol's Video-early Blockbuster Video days) I remember strolling the aisle picking a movie based on cover art. Sometimes it was a good pick, others were duds. She got tired f me renting Jason takes Manhattan and Slugs over and over again, so little me had to branch out. I know it was many kids just the same, that's how imo we grew to love the cheese. B-movies forever. #vhs #bekindpleaserewind

Oh, I love this dumb zombie movie. I own it.The cat's scene is the best. (or am I confusing that bit from a similar scene in one of the "zombi series"?)
@tylerskiss8 жыл бұрын
that's my thinking as well- all these damn zombi knockoffs (which itself is a knockoff) all start to blur and you forget what happened where. Like I swear I saw this film and they called the virus "Death One", but here it's "Sweet Death" (it's very effective whatever the name is) so have I just got two films mixed up or was there another English dubbed version of this film... I'd love to see a flow chart of all these films and how they were intended to fit in the grand scheme of Dawn of the Dead or Zombi 2 (you know, Zombie) sequels.
@jacemachine8 жыл бұрын
Cyril I love your Grendel icon, BTW!
@tylerskiss8 жыл бұрын
***** thanks! I have the same thing on my shoulder and it's so cool when people see it and recognize it. I actually contacted Matt Wagner and asked him if I could option the rights to write a Grendel: Warchild screenplay, but he said the rights were already owned (he was very nice about it). I'm shocked whoever has them hasn't fast tracked a film adaptation now that comic films are so popular.
@jacemachine8 жыл бұрын
Cyril I used to own Matt Wagner's mini-fridge! I used to know the founder of Comico (Phil LaSorda), and he still had Matt's beer fridge from his studio, and loaned it to me for a few months while I lived in a boarding room up in Norristown, PA. Grendel Prime was such a great version of the Grendel character-- easily my favorite.
@tylerskiss8 жыл бұрын
That's awesome- both the fridge and the founder of Comico. I pitched the idea of doing Grendel Prime first and then, if the film did well, go back and tell Hunter Rose's story.
